I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Amanda Adkins, a physician double board-certified in Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine, who shares her passion for helping women prevent and possibly reverse chronic illnesses through a plant-based nutrition lifestyle. Throughout the episode, Dr. Adkins talks about how incorporating more plant-based foods into your meals can have a positive impact on your health and the environment. By reducing or eliminating animal products, you can lower the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers, while also reducing our carbon footprint. Dr. Adkins provides helpful tips and powerful insights for making the transition to a plant-based diet easier, such as focusing on the foods you enjoy, experimenting with different cooking methods and flavors, and not being too hard on yourself if you slip up. The conversation was informative and inspiring. It's clear that a plant-based nutrition lifestyle can have a significant impact on our health and the environment, and I hope that you find this information valuable as well.Dr. Amanda Adkinswww.dramandamd.comDon't forget to visit our website at Plant-Based Curious leave you feedback, and grab your plant based curious themed merchandise.

TwoSistas welcomed to today's podcast on this FantabulousFriday, May 5, 2023 (Cinco de Mayo), Dr Amanda Adkins. Dr. Adkins is a physician double board certified in Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine. She was trained at University of Louisville School of Medicine. She is the CEO/Owner of Enlightenment Health and Wealth. She helps women who are overweight prevent and possibly reverse chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. She obviously is very passionate about this topic because she was an obese teenager who has a family history of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. As early as 6th grade, Dr. Adkins wanted to be a physician. As she progressed through high school, it wasn't until she had to step on the scale where she realized the fate of her wellness was truly up to her. She began a quest to become “healthy”. Her new healthy wellness plan began as a vegetarian then a vegan lifestyle. She felt empowered as she began losing weight but she considered herself to be a vegan junk food addict. It wasn't until she started on her education quest to become a physician when she heard a doctor at a conference state “you cannot exercise a bad habit.” Something within her clicked! When Dr. Adkins looks back at her journey and what she would tell the young “Amanda”, she was very vulnerable and teared up. While we may be predisposed to certain genetic factors which contribute to various diseases, Dr. Adkins shared that we can turn those genes on and off. We would love for some of ours to be turned off but our journeys continue and as we evolve, we can certainly partake in our own wellness journey in a way that feels attainable. Personally, Janis loves attainable, but mostly cookies and chips! She has a deep passion for ensuring that everyone has a chance at a healthy and happy life. Before you start feeling a gloomy, remember, winning the House is winning the House. And while there was certainly no red wave, there was a voter shift by people that aren't happy with what's going on. We'll take it. The state of Missouri, like Florida, was a statewide sweep and beatdown by the GOP. God bless Missourians! The biggest loser in all this is not Amanda Adkins in District 3 of Kansas, it's now obvious that seat is gone forever. Johnson County has swung left and bad things are coming.... take it to the bank. No, the biggest loser was Derek Schmidt who lost by just a few thousand votes after completely ignoring campaigning in the KC area. It was a horrible strategy that still would have worked if not for two other also rans on the ballot that got over 30,000 votes. The Senate hangs in the balance but still looks like it's going GOP... hang on tight.
It's election day! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

For the final installment of our SHE-lection! series, we're headed to Kansas's Third Congressional district where Democratic Representative Sharice Davids is running for her third term against former Kansas Republican Party chair Amanda Adkins, who also challenged Davids for the seat in 2020. Davids is one of the first Native American women and one of the first openly LGBTQ persons elected to the House. In the run-up to Election Day, Adkins and Davids have been squaring off on the economy, reproductive rights and public safety. A new Sienna College/New York Times poll showed Davids with a 14 point edge over Adkins, but recent redistricting has given the Third district a potentially more conservative constituency than previous years. We speak with Washington correspondent for The Kansas City Star, Daniel Desrochers, and Emily Hedges Vietti, a gender and politics researcher at the Institute for Leadership Studies at the University of Kansas and the director of Ready to Run Kansas.

For quite some time, the big Tech companies have grown and grown and all lived in their own space. Now that Elon Musk owns Twitter, that's about to change. What started with Apple attacking Meta (Facebook) has led to a 70% decline in Meta's stock price. Musk didn't just buy Twitter for free speech, he has bigger plans. A NY Times poll reports Sharice Davids is up big in the race against Amanda Adkins for Congress and it has www.kcmotalkradio.com host Pete Mundo telling the naked truth. You gotta hear this. Dan Wetzel of www.yahoosports.com has confirmed in a new story that Britt Reid has admitted he was drinking at work at Arrowhead. The rest of Wetzel's piece is even more damning. I have a tale of a mouse, my mom and a sponsor that I will never, ever forget... even on my deathbed. It happened yesterday and you're going to laugh. And we cover the big KSU/OSU game and Mizzou-South Carolina in our weekly picks segment with Lee Sterling of www.paramountsports.com.

Former NBA player Royce White, a star at Iowa State and aspiring politician, has some incredibly strong words about LeBron James' silence on slave labor in China. But he doesn't stop there and brings in Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey as cancers to black Americans. We have the audio. Democrat Sharice Davids has outspent Amanda Adkins 2 1/2 to one for the Kansas district 3 seat in Congress, we have the shocking numbers of just how desperate the Dems are to hold this seat. The college loan forgiveness applications are open online and 21 days out from the election is begs an answer to the question, how is this legal under election law? Somebody felt really great last week when they plopped down $80,000 on the Chiefs to beat the Bills. Not so much anymore. The Niners have 11 injured starters as the Chiefs prepare to play them on the road this week. And TNT has kept Charles Barkley from leaving to do LIV Golf and more for millions and millions. This is a TEN year contract and Barkley's three colleagues get ten year deals, too. Wow!

The Pro Football Hall of Fame is better than the baseball hall. There, I said it. Everyone in sports media will disagree with that and baseball purists would cut me entirely out of their life for saying it. But I will back it up and prove it. Then we ask, which current Chiefs will make the Hall? I have four locks, three that probably will and a couple that could. Isn't that more fun that some baseball snob telling you Salvador Perez isn't a Hall of Famer? Carli Lloyd was the best player on America's Bronze Medal soccer team but she's also the strongest, bravest and toughest of them all. Isn't that the "girl power" we celebrate in sports? So why are liberals destroying her everywhere? And congresswoman Sharice Davids is finally being called out for being the radical liberal she is. Turns out, she's one of the most radical supporters of critical race theory... will Amanda Adkins attack her in the next election instead of playing patty cake?
Nick Haines, Cat Reid, Dave Helling, Eric Wesson and Steve Kraske discuss Tuesday's election results, low voter turnout and the implications of campaign money in KCMO school board elections, the politics of moving the MLB All-Star Game, vaccine eligibility, vaccine passports, new debates over mask mandates in Kansas, protests by KCMO's unhoused and Amanda Adkins announcing her KS 3rd District run.
