A new MP3 sermon from Pleasant Valley Baptist Church is now available on SermonAudio with the following details: Title: Labor of love Speaker: Andy Riley Broadcaster: Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Event: Sunday - PM Date: 6/30/2024 Length: 52 min.
In today's episode, Andy & DJ are joined in the studio by former competitive swimmer Riley Gaines. They discuss the third day of Hunter Biden's gun trial, the NYPD revoking Donald Trump's concealed carry permit because of felony convictions and border agents beginning to turn back migrants under new Biden restrictions.
Andy Riley is an Emmy-winning scriptwriter and a million-selling author and cartoonist published in more than 20 countries, notably with the Bunny Suicides book series. Antonia Quirke follows him as he begins to write and draw the third book in his graphic novel series for children. The series is called Action Dude. That's the name of the main character, too; he lives for danger, he lives for excitement, he lives with his Mum because he's eight years old. Antonia also follows Andy as he performs a semi-improvised, hour-long stand up show with live drawing.
Emmy-winning screenwriter, author, cartoonist and performer Andy Riley is this week's guest - and rather appropriately, given the time of year, we're talking about the classic series six Goon Show episode The International Christmas Pudding. In a far-ranging conversation Andy and Tyler talk about his history with the show and some of the topics this specific episode raises - such as the old-fashioned notion of British prestige abroad. It was also the show in which Peter Sellers got into very hot water with producer Peter Eton for his behaviour. What triggered it? They examine the moral, spiritual and physical malaise inherent in most of the Goon Show characters, especially Thynne & Moriarty - at this point in the show's history the first signs of their wretchedness become apparent. Harry Secombe's performance and aptitude for getting a laugh out of fluffs is rightly praised, while Bluebottle comes in for a bit of flak. Having worked in radio, Andy brings his knowledge of tricks producers would employ to avoid under-running programmes, and we hear from audio engineer and famed Goon Show restorer Ted Kendall on how he managed to piece back together a shortened version of The International Christmas Pudding to its original length. Oh, and what's the connection between the Goons and hit US political satire Veep? Tune in to find out!
A Widnes lad with a prominent surname in rugby union around the north west. Andy found his own path in the sport via Halton Farnworth Hornets in Rugby League and then joined Widnes RUFC in his teens. Honing his ball playing ability with aerial dominance has the first team on alert. He quickly established himself as indispensable and was part of an exciting back line. This got him the move he needed and Sedgley Park has got themselves a baller. He then represented Lancashire at HQ and he's not looked back since.

Finally, a normal episode that both has a guest an is actually on dinosaurs. This time out we are on to the second dinosaur ever named – Iguanodon. Despite being one of the absolute originals and being known from numerous good specimens, Iguanodon (and its relatives) really doesn’t get much of a look in when it comes to artworks and documentaries and even books – it’s not a carnivore, not huge like sauropods, and doesn’t rock the funky headgear of so many other ornithischians. But it’s an important animal, both historically and now and also (inevitably) has a complicated history that means it is well worth talking about. So we do. This week artist, writer and cartoonist Andy Riley joins us and he wants to know specifically about the function of the famous spiky thumb of Iguanodon – just what did they do with it? Today’s Guest I'm back with another co-hosted episode with the fabulous Jo Casey! Today, we talk about the philosophy of “no pain, no gain” and how it applies to healing and personal development. Is it necessary? Is it an important part of healing? Are there times when we need to step aside from the more gentle types of healing and therapy and turn to something a bit more intense? Is this kind of healing right for everyone? And how do you know if it's right for you? In this episode, we explore the world of more intense therapies, based on some recent personal experience. About Jo Casey Jo Casey has over 20 years experience of working as a trainer and consultant in the corporate, public and third sectors. Her flashy clients and workplaces have included Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC), The NHS, BT, Toyota Motors, Peugeot Business School, The Welsh Assembly Government, The Girl Guides UK, Vets4Pets/Companion Care, several Local Government Authorities, and The Department Of Work And Pensions. But she's also worked with many no less wonderful smaller ventures, micro businesses and SMEs. She's a self-confessed nerd and has taught at college and university levels and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Chester. Jo has a Masters Degree in Coaching and Organizational Development and she's an NLP Master Practitioner, MBTI qualified professional certified Emotional Intelligence EQi 2.0 consultant. She's been coaching for over 15 years now – clocking up over 1000 hours of coaching experience. Basically, she carefully treads that line between being passionate and a tiny bit obsessive about what she does (obsession often wins). Jo runs accredited coach training programs and coaches people from all over the world via the power of the internet. Listen to this episode What You’ll Learn How does the “no pain, no gain” philosophy apply to healing and personal development? Why we sometimes need to look at the dark stuff – but not wallow in it How these types of therapies can help us to expand our comfort zone Why it's so important to feel safe and supported when working with the more intense therapies Is there real value in these intense healing experiences? Well, its a been a few month since our last Podcast, but we are back with another exclusive mix from our 5th Birthday guests, Inland Knights. Dj’s, Producers and label owners, Andy Riley and Laurence Ritchie AKA Inland Knights hail from Nottingham UK, a city with a rich musical legacy, particularly for house music. They met in ’93 and cut their teeth DJ’ing for Smokescreen, the renegade soundsystem from which they drew their early inspiration. Smokescreen consisted of dj’s, lighting people, sound people, a truck, a P.A, a generator and general helpers. Old warehouses, woodland, fields, quarries and houses were utilised with the sole intention of having a good time…. for free! By the mid 90’s smokescreen could guarantee a crowd of hundreds in attendance at their parties, and their club nights became local institutions that ran for years with packed dancefloors, and still do to this day!. By ’98 Laurence and Andy had made the inevitable step into production and the same year the Dropmusic label was born with the release of ‘Inland Knights vol 1’. As Inland Knights Riley and Ritchie undertook a busy schedule in the studio to write tracks for Drop (almost all of the early output was entirely Inland knights, despite many monikers). Dropmusic has gone on to become one of the most highly regarded house labels in recent years(with 60 plus releases to date), and Inland knights have gone on to become one of the most respected production outfits in the house world, regularly taking on remix duties for fellow labels and producers. Highlights include the accliamed ‘Mohammed Ali’ remix for Faithless on Cheeky Records, cd compilations and remixes for NRK and Om Records, Inland Knights first full length album entitled ‘Creative Spaces’, and more recently Inland Knights album to mark 10 years of Dropmusic entitled ‘Dust till Dawn’. Currently, as well as remix and production commitments, the pair maintain a busy international Dj ‘ing shedule, and can be found most weekends playing somewhere in the UK or Europe, as well as regular visits to the U.S, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Andy also records under the Toka Project pseudonym, and Laurence under the alias Larry Fives. Catch Inland Knights at .........
