In this week’s episode of The Breakout Growth Podcast Sean Ellis and Ethan Garr chat with Oren Kaniel, AppsFlyer’s CEO and cofounder. AppsFlyer is a mobile marketing analytics and attribution platform. When Apple announced the vast app tracking transparency changes it deployed in 2021 it shook the Mobile Marketing Partner (MMP) ecosystem. So we wanted to learn from Oren how a fast-growing company like his was able to navigate and lead through this massive sea change. One of the standout moments from our conversation was when Oren explained that as these external forces of change began to manifest around him, he asked the question, “What do we know won’t change?” With so much uncertainty in the industry, knowing what he and his team could safely rely on to stay the same helped define the starting point from which they could meet the challenges and embrace new opportunities as they emerged. This was quite instructive and fits in with the longer view of the world Oren takes. Rather than getting hung up on what will happen in the next year or two, he tries to look at the world through the lens of ‘where are we going,’ five years, ten years, and even beyond. In the startup world, it is often difficult to expand one’s view beyond the urgency of the moment, but AppsFlyer’s success demonstrates the importance of balancing that urgency with what will be important to the business over the longer term. Google recently announced its own round of privacy changes, similar to what Apple has instituted. Undoubtedly, this will further impact AppsFlyer and the entire mobile ecosystem. Despite the chaos this creates, companies like AppsFlyer will find ways to continue to thrive and grow. Dive in with us and find out how to lead growth when the world around you is in flux, and please subscribe to our new Breakout Growth Podcast YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-K_CY4-IrZ_auEIs0j97zA We discussed: * The beginning of AppsFlyer; noticing an imbalance in 2010 (06:14) * The business of enabling businesses; 10,000 partners from Salesforce to Facebook (10:21) * Apple and IDFA; staying focused through challenge and change (24:52) * “What we know won’t change” (28:44) * A future with winners and more complex solutions (56:07) And much, much, more . . .

Britain has passed a law requiring new houses and buildings to install electric vehicle charging points from next year, BBC reports. This will see up to 145,000 charging points installed across the country each year. New supermarkets, workplaces and buildings undergoing major renovations will also come under the new law. The UK is switching to EVs, with petrol and diesel car sales banned from 2030. Niantic, the maker of the popular augmented reality game Pokémon GO, has raised $300 million from Coatue at a valuation of $9 billion, the company said in a blogpost on Monday. The company that initially spun out of Google, will use the funds to invest in current games and new apps, expand its Lightship developer platform, and build out its version of what it calls the real-world metaverse. “We're building a future where the real world is overlaid with digital creations, entertainment and information, making it more magical, fun and informative,” said John Hanke, Niantic's Founder and CEO. Jina.ai, an open-source startup in Berlin, that uses neural search to help its users find information in their unstructured data (including videos and images), has raised $30 million in Series A funding led by Canaan Partners, TechCrunch reports. New investor Mango Capital, as well as existing investors GGV Capital, SAP.iO and Yunqi Partners also participated in this round. DuckDuckGo, the maker of the privacy-focused browser and app of the same name, is beta testing an app-tracking blocker for Android phones, the company said in a blogpost. People can join the private waitlist by downloading the app or updating to the latest version, navigating to app tracking protection in the privacy section under settings, and clicking on the ‘join the private wait list' option. Once active, the app-tracking blocker will detect when your Android apps are about to send data to third-party tracking companies found in DuckDuckGo's app tracker dataset, and block those requests. El Salvador, which recently became the first country to make Bitcoin legal tender, plans to build a Bitcoin city at the base of a volcano, with the cryptocurrency used to fund the project, its president has announced, BBC reports. The city will be circular to represent the shape of a coin and will be built near the Conchagua volcano to take advantage of its geothermal energy to power Bitcoin mining, according to the report. Apple recently rolled out its highly anticipated App Tracking Transparency feature with iOS 14.5, which lets users decide whether apps track their activity for targeted advertising. Overwhelmingly, users seem happy to leave app tracking disabled. Just 4% of iPhone users in the U.S. have agreed to app tracking after updating their device, according to the latest data from Verizon-owned analytics firm Flurry. Worldwide, that figure jumps to 12%, a healthy increase but one that still doesn't spell great news for companies like Facebook that sell targeting to advertisers by hoovering up user data. With iOS 14.5, if a user has app tracking requests enabled, then whenever they download or update an app, it has to ask permission before it can track their activity. And it's clear most users are saying: “Nah.” (Cited on: https://gizmodo.com/too-bad-zuck-just-4-of-u-s-iphone-users-let-apps-tra-1846851013) TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE Follow and SHARE, LIKE AND COMMENT on my show "What 'Chu Talkin 'Bout!
