Dr. Daphne Bascom earned a DPhil/PhD in physiological sciences at the University of Oxford, a medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh, and completed fellowship training in microvascular and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck at Oregon Health Sciences University. She has more than two decades of executive leadership across health systems, health technology, and community health. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Population Health at Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City. So, how and why did she leave all of that to pursue lifestyle medicine, a “vegetable-forward” way of life, and a completely different kind of care? As we've heard from many of our guests, for Dr. Bascom, it was personal. Between witnessing her mother's long and arduous struggle with COPD and helping her father navigate the healthcare system, she recognized that despite her many years of training, her work as a surgeon, and her leadership, she still wasn't doing the work that got her into medicine in the first place. She wanted to help people be healthy. Period. That deep calling led her to become the Chief Operating Officer of The Vegan Gym, a global digital health platform dedicated to plant-based performance, healthspan, and longevity. She now hosts the Thrive on Plants podcast and is the Founder of The Longevity Lab. As a lifelong believer in equity and inclusion, Dr. Bascom works hard to ensure that this information is accessible to all people, and much of the education she puts together on these topics is available for free on her YouTube channel, @TheVeganGym.

Though often overlooked, these Asheville sessions lit the spark that would explode two years later in Bristol, igniting the Big Bang of country music. If you've not done so already, be sure to subscribe to the Stories podcast on Spreaker, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or on your favorite podcast app. Thanks for watching.

Dr Paul Singh and Dr Kendall Donaldson come together at the AECOS 2025 to explore the evolving role of OMIDRIA in cataract surgery. As the only FDA-approved intracameral NSAID, OMIDRIA continues to deliver meaningful clinical benefit - reducing inflammation, preventing complications, and improving patient outcomes - while easing or removing the burden of post-op drop regimens. Listeners will hear real-world insights from the Bascom study and clinical practice, including how OMIDRIA-based dropless protocols can streamline workflow, enhance staff efficiency, improve patient satisfaction, and reduce costs. Importantly, OMIDRIA now maintains separate payment status in both Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) and Hospital Outpatient Departments (HOPDs) for 100% of fee-for-service Medicare patients.* *OMIDRIA qualifies for separate payment across both ASC and HOPD settings as it fulfils the requirements established in the non-opioid as a surgical supply provision by CMS. The Fat-Burning Man Show by Abel James: The Future of Health & Performance
How do you feed your family when you're as poor as a churchmouse? To help celebrate the holidays, today we have a very special throwback episode for you with my grandmother Nan. When I first started this show, almost 13 years ago, I bought a cheap little video camera and interviewed Nan at her house because she's pretty much my favorite person in the universe. As many of you know, Nan's wisdom is ever present in our work, and especially my book, The Wild Diet. But who is Nan anyway? Well, Marion Bascom, affectionately known as Nan was a nurse, a Second Lieutenant in the US Army, and a city girl who married my grandfather, Horace, a dairy farmer, and took on the challenges of tending to a dairy farm, organic garden and homestead while raising 7 children. After living the good life for almost a century, Nan passed away a few years ago at the age of 97. And I'm very happy to be able to share some of her wisdom with you here today. We could all benefit from listening to a few words from the elders these days. This interview is very dear to my heart, and I hope this show with Nan brings a smile to your face and warms your heart, too. Get ready to smile. In this conversation with my grandmother, we're chatting about: Incredible stories from raising 7 children on a farm with almost no money The low cost of food when you grow it yourself Family meals, gardening, canning and foraging for wild edibles behind the house What Nan did when she thought one of the kids was on drugs How to make homemade bread, ice cream, yogurt, jellies and pickles… she even made her own root beer Nan's secret to a good long life And tons more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/marion-nan-bascom-love-wisdom-straight-from-my-grandmother/ Join The Wild Guild and get freebies on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/abeljames Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman Follow on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/fatburnman Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus
