Wodrich served as the recruiting coordinator under head coach Austin Parkinson, as well as the academic liaison, head of guard player development and the manager of opponent scouting responsibilities. Prior to returning home to Central Indiana, Wodrich served as the head assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), from 2011-13. While assisting head coach Phil Stern, Wodrich had a number of duties at UMBC, inlcuding serving as the program's recruiting coordinator, head of player development, lead opponent scout, academic liaison and head of alumni relations. Before joining the UMBC staff, she assisted 12-time Patriot League Champion head coach Bill Gibbons at the College of Holy Cross in 2010-11 where she helped out with scouting, recruiting, practice planning, guard development and video coordination. Wodrich broke into the coaching community in July 2008 when she was named a graduate assistant at Texas Tech University, where she assisted with the day-to-day operations, video responsibilities and the organization of summer camps. She graduated from Texas Tech with her Master's degree in sport management in 2010. As a player at UMBC, Wodrich was a four-year letter winner for the Retrievers from 2004-2008 and helped guide the team to the 2007 America East championship and a spot in the NCAA Divisoin I Tournament. She was named to the America East All-Conference Third Team as a senior in 2008 after averaging 11.4 points per game. She graduated in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in broadcast communications and exercise physiology. What others are saying about Kristin Wodrich: "The University of Indianapolis has made an awesome hire in Kristin Drabyn! She is a bright, young star in our profession who possesses an incredible work ethic and passion for the game of basketball. She is a tremendous role model and leader for young women. No question Greyhound basketball has hired a winner!" – Kristy Curry, Head Women's Basketball Coach, University of Alabama "I am incredibly proud and excited for Kristin as she gets this opportunity to run her own program. Her knowledge of the game, heart for others and passion for teaching will make an immediate impact at UIndy.  Although she will be missed as a colleague, we will be rooting her on from just up the road." – Austin Parkinson, Head Women's Basketball Coach, IUPUI   "I am so happy for Kristin. She is a tireless worker and outstanding recruiter who exemplifies the highest of character in our profession. Her enthusiasm for the game of basketball will permeate throughout the athletic department, and I expect great things in the near future for the UIndy Greyhounds." – Bill Brock, Associate Head Women's Basketball Coach, Baylor University "The University of Indianapolis is getting an awesome coach and an even better person to lead their program. Kristin Drabyn is an authentic source of positivity and will bring great energy to every aspect of her role as Head Coach. Her players will learn so much from her and she will set a tremendous example for them with her incredible work ethic just as she did when she was a player. In this episode of Seated2Serve, host Jeff Bickerstaff interviews Bill Brock, Production Vendor, and owner of White Rock Films, about how small business owners can leverage technology.Social media tells us that we have to be seen, doing ads, presenting storyboards, and providing quality audio. It can be intimidating and this is when you turn to a professional who caters to small businesses such as White Rock Films. Bill is a professional videographer providing high-quality production at an affordable rate and scale for small business owners.A recent project for White Rock Films was working with local private schools to communicate recent challenges and policies that were necessary to keep the students and faculty safe. The school had to determine what messaging they wanted to put out. Instead of having a video of someone talking about the challenges and changes that were necessary for the school, the production crew decided to take a different approach. They shot footage of children arriving at the school, interacting with others, and using relatable context to convey the message the school wanted. This created a relevant story that was necessary for the parents and students to connect tangibly with the message.Regarding production value, it’s not as expensive as you may think but it depends on the various methods of production or if different angles are needed, which can drive up the cost. A simple ad can range anywhere from $800 to $2,500 and up, depending on the complexity of the script, if voiceovers are needed, if a script needs to be written, or if a storyboard can be utilized. Negotiating can usually occur for these services.Messaging is the most important component to consider when marketing and the next is having a strategy on how to market the message. Given the number of social media outlets and the connection in what is posted versus what shows up on social media feeds, the right message is critical to reach the “right” audience in order to get a good return on your investment.Recent challenges have impacted everyone, and promoting your business now can help you stay relevant and continue to reach your goals. In this Episode of Biz Pointz TV, host Larry Kortkamp interviews Corey Kirkendoll, with 5K Technical Services. Larry points out that Corey is an MSP. Corey explains that MSP stands for Managed Service Provider, which means that his company provides everything needed for full IT infrastructure. This includes keeping everything running, from the phones to technological security and everything that is technology based. As Larry states, businesses need a professional to help with technology rather than trying to do it themselves in order to save money. 5K Technical Services helps businesses not compromise on their technology efforts due to budget constraints. They provide a quality service for a reasonable rate. Building relationships with customers is of utmost importance. He says that by understanding where the client wants to go with their business and getting to know the employees, they develop a partnership with them. This allows 5K Technical Services to understand the client’s system and be proactive about handling IT maintenance. One way they partner with their clients is by doing a quarterly virtual CIO meeting to discuss the upcoming needs of the company’s IT infrastructure such as patches, user training, moving assistance, etc. This is the large difference between management of a business’s IT needs and someone who does point-in-time fixes and only comes in to troubleshoot an IT issue.Have a comprehensive plan for onboarding clients’ new employees, including phone, computer, and email address set up. The same concept applies when an employee leaves the organization, which is offboarding. They also want to make sure that the clients’ employees are properly trained and that the business is properly protected. From a cyber security standpoint, Corey says they make sure they have a business continuity plan in place and have proper security access protocols. They also implement a simple password policy: create a simple phrase and change out a few of the characters. This helps the user remember the password while also creating smart passwords. Corey says that nothing is 100%, but putting these things in place is risk averse. He ensures that security is their number one thing.Corey can be reached www.5ktech.com or by phone at 469-656-3159.To work with The Kortkamp Group, find guest, advertising, or sponsor information, contact 972-824-8001, or go to KortkampGroup.com.Production and programming information for the OBBM Network can be found by calling 214-714-0495. In this Episode of Biz Pointz TV, host Larry Kortkamp interviews Bret Kortkamp, Managing Partner with National1 Energy, an independent energy advisor based in North Texas. National1 Energy is a specialty independent advisory firm that helps businesses save money by reducing their per-kilowatt-hour cost with a wholesale price rather than a retail price. National1 Energy is the customer advocate. Commercial electricity can be quite complex and National1 Energy builds a custom contract price around the energy usage profile of each business as each business uses energy in a different way. There are substantial savings depending on the usage. Bret says that they can help every business reduce their electricity cost. One of their customers in Sundance Square saved $16 million on their electricity bills. A nail salon saved $500. It’s found money that can go toward the business elsewhere. For the 3,000 customers they have served in 2020, they saved the customers an average of 27%. National1 Energy provides a free analysis of the bill and contract, with no cost to the customer. They can also renegotiate a new contract with the current supplier providing substantial savings with the electric company you are already with. All they need to get started are your bills and usage for the past 12 months. Per Bret, the biggest challenge for businesses to save on their electric bill is the complacency that creeps in for business owners to stay on top of expenses. National1 Energy works with business owners to help them understand how much more they are paying for electricity than they have to and then helps them do something about it. Bret says what he loves about his job is he is trying to put money back into people’s pockets, not asking them to spend more. The past year has been difficult for many businesses, but the creative are making their customers feel more comfortable to encourage them to buy.The smaller the business, the less fat they have available to survive with. It’s super important to stay on the radar of consumers across the community. Shelby points to the stark contrasts between Dallas and Collin County depending on what their comfort level has been. Larry points to the emphasis now on paying attention to how local government works and how to stay relevant in that arena. For 2 years in a row, the first time in 24 years, Plano City Council kept business property taxes from increasing. The more we can promote a vibrant business climate, the more everyone is served. How do we engage the council more effectively on a grassroots level? Shelby explains that city council is basically the board of directors for the city. The council, and the city by extension, is meant to foster a good climate for residents and businesses in the city. All the headlines are taken up! City councils and school boards typically get no attention unless there is something really big and contentious happening. 70+% of the things that affect you in your day-to-day life are decided on the local level. Make sure you are getting involved each Monday evening to understand what the conversations are, the issues to be resolved, and where the council minds are headed. Shelby discusses some of the issues on the table right now, and walks us through the taxing authorities and what that means to YOU. In response to concerns about school shooting, Jacksboro Police Department Sgts. Houston Gass and Banning Sweatland realized the need for additional safety and accuracy training for emergency service providers. Host Larry Kortkamp sits down with 2018 Law Enforcement Today Magazine Citizen of the Year Award recipient Sgt. Gass to discuss the Emergency Operations Proving Grounds, or EOPG now used to facilitate that training. Often responders are dispatched from different organizations, so learning how to work together better saves lives and shortens the duration of the crisis.Classroom and situational training helps responders remain calm even in chaotic scenarios."If we're not the cool kids in the room, everyone else will panic ... you must know you're going to win ..." ~ Houston Gass Much conversations surround this topic today. An armed assailant is dangerous no matter what type of weapon that may be wielded. Situations are fluid and they always change, so keeping people calm helps stabilize erratic behavior. Emergency responders are not always police officers and fire departments, they can also be school teachers.Firearms courses for pistols and long guns are used for each situation. Working together in unison is the best opportunity for everyone making it out alive. Felony traffic stops, sniper operations - EOPG is teaching curriculum our first responders need to work through together. How do they get the word out? Training flyers go out to local police departments, EOPG.org, and word of mouth. The Not All Heroes Wear Capes Annual Event is a fundraiser that helps them gain attention from the communities they want to serve. As a police officer, he was shot in the face during a violent offender event. Firefighters came to his rescue, and he talks about it in great detail. 21 surgeries in 27 months covered facial reconstruction, neck reconstruction, new teeth - he had only been married 6 months when this happened and they had combined their families. Medic, fire, police - when these things happen, this group of people are left picking up the pieces an often left to recover in loneliness. Sgt. Gass wants us to know what they go through so we can be supportive, and not every injury is visible.Go to EOPG.org for more information, and connect with them on Facebook and LinkedIn. Employment has long been the number one problem for local business owners, and part of that problem is how to get employees to bring their best, to understand their role in the company's success. Business strategist Doreen Milano sits down with Host Larry Kortkamp to discuss these issues. Doreen has over 40 years working with corporations on this issue, and is now bringing her insight to local businesses. How do we keep our mission statement alive for a positive and productive company culture? Doreen says you need 5-7 words to sum this up for your team. They have to know where they are heading. Many people don't realize this is a top-down issue. It will always be the leaders in the company that will have the biggest responsibility and impact on company culture. The energy and productivity in your company are directly related to how well the team understands the mission at hand. That's not simply a recognition at a company banquet, it's an everyday conversation. In fact, it doesn't even matter how this message is communicated. Successful businesses use signage, dancing, singing, and other creative ways to reinforce an understanding of the quality of work they are expected to perform. They have to know how vital they are to the success of the company. It's up to leadership to make it clear WHY it's important. When there is no cash flow, Doreen suggests looking at leading versus managing the staff."Often a different approach to leadership will improve the results you're after. This can be a painful discussion, but we should always focus on where we are headed ... not being comfortable in the pain. As a new network on the scene, we've learned to harness the advertising power of a local approach. Biz Pointz TV on the OBBM Network focuses content on the DFW, Allen, Frisco, Sachse, Rockwall, and McKinney areas, literally reaching the very business audience that benefits most from the guest and advertising content. Host of Biz Pointz TV, Larry Kortkamp, talks with Susan Hamilton about leveraging the strengths of business alliances from a local perspective. Many owners are calling it quits, facing supply chain and employment issues. It's hard to measure where we need to be tomorrow when the playing field constantly changes. One thing is for sure, over each generation that has faced a devastating economic challenge in the past, people who ramp up in periods of uncertainty are more likely to survive, and are positioned for a powerful presence in the marketplace when the situation begins to improve. These guys never left the scene. The OBBM Network is comprised of local business hosts, guests, and advertisers. In the DFW area, that means the issues are recognizable AND solutions are actionable for this particular area. Ideas, services, and products aren't distant or too large to implement - or afford. Businesses can thrive with advertising when adding that 'networking' aspect, an often overlooked tenet of great business. Biz Pointz Host Larry Kortkamp and cyber-security expert Maria Scarmardo, co-owner and CMO with VITECH Security Group, discuss the need to develop a security framework for growth in today's local business space. Local businesses present vulnerabilities that are now easier and more affordable to resolve than most realize. Looking at security as a part of a solid business plan is a great way to incorporate growth strategies that can otherwise feel overwhelming to implement. The security issues listed might seem small, but it doesn't take much for any one or combination of these issues to quickly get out of control:Disgruntled employeesNeglecting to update passwords every 90 daysLack of awareness training for staff, techs, and managementNo disaster recovery plan in placeMaria stresses the importance of establishing policies and procedures that incorporate clear protocols for behavior. Policies and procedures should also include responses to breaches or escalated scenarios to give employees a road map as your company grows.65% of attacks today are happening to local small businesses. Do you have a disaster recovery plan for breaches or compromised data, malware or ransomware? If so, is it included in policies and procedures? In Texas, if 250 customers become affected by ransom or malware through your organization, there is now a requirement to report it to the Attorney General.Technology is accelerating, and legislation is changing constantly to keep up with it state-by-state and county-by-county. With VITECH Security Group, each company is a unique situation, with different levels of talent, time, and revenue. A cookie-cutter approach won't work across the board. Maria advises developing a relationship with IT that creates an environment for strategic planning.VITECH is a minority-owned, female-owned, small business with over 40 years combined experience in cyber-security and business processes. VITECH Security Group is passionate about securing critical data and infrastructure in government, energy, healthcare and banking, and strives to impact the world through education and legislation. Chris Galdieri has written an engaging analysis of carpetbagging in American politics. Stranger in a Strange State: The Politics of Carpetbagging from Robert Kennedy to Scott Brown (SUNY Press, 2019), and its focus on individual case studies, highlight understandings of electoral politics in the United States and how individual ambition, party strengths and weaknesses, and electoral dynamics all fit into our thinking about candidates and their campaigns. While the thrust of Stranger in a Strange State is on this topic of carpetbagging—with high profile examples like Robert Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, and somewhat less well known candidates like Alan Keyes and Bill Brock—our understanding of carpetbagging also brings forward considerations of representation, since the critique of the carpetbagger tends to be a disconnection from the citizens to be represented, especially for those running for the United States Senate. Galdieri forefronts this analysis of representation, framing the analysis of these individual cases within our thinking about how elected officials are supposed to represent their constituents. This is a fascinating book, compelling the reader to turn the page to learn more about political parties, politicians, campaigns, ambition, and how much of this might fit within our polarized political landscape.
