MILCK (Connie Lim) is an Asian-American recording artist who first received international attention for her song "Quiet" which became viral during the Women's March in DC in 2017. It would be named by Billboard Music as "The Protest Song of the Year" in 2017. We discuss the impact that the song has had on her work as an artist and activist. She talks about her struggles breaking through as an Asian-American artist, and her hopes to use her music to help build solidarity with other marginalized communities. IT'S SUPERSTAR Meghan Trainor!!!! Thats right Boppers… the Grammy, People's Choice & Billboard Music ( x2) Award winning Pop Star comes over to the TYSO home studio and immediately offers to buy Rick a new house. Rick gives Meghan his usual coffee concoction which apparently is some kind of truth serum as she proceeds to critique his home and jokes. Meghan discusses the ordeal of landing her first record deal, regaining her confidence after having a baby, and why she thought Rick was “desperate” when he asked her to come on the podcast (Hi Betty, thanks for writing this description. Rick here looking over it -- I wasn't "desperate!" I was marketing TYSO! F*ck come on). The Goblin Doctor drops by, Rick asks all the heavy hitting questions about money, mental health, and why she doesn't remember him when she guest starred on NBC's Undateable (Good work Betty, Rick here again. Listen, I wasn't surprised about Meghan not remembering me on Undateable. This wasn't a big deal rofl. Hahahaha. Imagine if I cared about something like that? Hahahahaha. I'm confident. So...). Ryan Trainor (Meghan's brother and Podcast co-host) drops by despite some miscommunication and opens up about sobriety, being the non-famous sibling, and their new podcast Workin' On It. Rick finally gets his dream song writing session as the trio find a beat (shout out to Jordan Omley, we'll put his instagram handle up here: @jordanjameslife), some lyrics, and a new HIT song for Meghan's up and coming album. My guest for The Happy Hour #347 is Jonas Myrin. Originally from Sweden, Jonas Myrin is a Grammy and Billboard Music award-winning singer, songwriter and producer. If you think you’ve never heard his work, there’s a good chance you have! He’s made an incredible impact with several chart-topping songs, including “10,000 Reasons” with Matt Redman. Y’all. This is probably one of my favorite interviews we’ve done this year, and I am so excited to share it with you. In this episode, Jonas tells us about life as a missionary kid and what brought him to the States, the meaning of success as a follower of Christ, and learning to be his true-self as a believer within the music industry. Jonas also shares about unexpectedly losing his dad to COVID-19 earlier this year, and the beautiful moment when he led his dad in worship as he left this earth and met his Maker. We have all experienced our own kinds of grief and loss this year, and it can feel so overwhelming to make sense of it and feel peace through such a difficult time. But Jonas worded it so perfectly - he says, “Even in loss, even in going through the darkest night, God is still there. And He wants to be there with you in the darkness.” For the full summary and links to the show, click the link below! Inspired by his Grandmother’s gospel records, a four- year-old Patrick climbed atop a piano bench and began to play by ear. Thus began his lifetime love affair with gospel music, a passion which has consumed and driven him… Patrick attended Norfolk State University and received the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal music and in 2016 he completed his Masters Degree at Liberty University. While attending NSU, he was appointed director of the Voices of Inspiration Gospel Choir and won many awards and choral competitions with them. For 10 years, Patrick has blessed the NSU Voices of Inspirations with his desire to "Sing unto the Lord a New Song." Together they praised God almighty, offering songs of praise that warm the souls of those proclaiming the spirit of the Lord. Licensed to preach in 2002, Patrick has served as the Worship Pastor to one of the top-tiered churches within Hampton Roads Region. Revered by many as a true gospel choirmaster, he has often been noted for his tremendous ability to write, arrange and produce music that is stirring and always appropriate for worship. He is best celebrated for his flamboyant, aggressive, high energy, yet technical style of choir directing and has been deemed as the "Prince of Choirs". He has served as a background vocalist and choir director for many plays, gospel artists, recordings and workshops. He currently serves under his mentor Minister Ricky Dillard as assistant director in his, Grammy nominated, Stellar Award winning choir New Generation Chorale, Chicago, Illinois. Patrick is also the founder and conductor of his national recording choir D’vyne Worship; a 50+ voice choral aggregate which sings not only gospel and contemporary songs, but anthems as well. Under his leadership, this choir has charted on Billboard Music's Top 10 and received national recognition from the voting academy of The Stellar Awards. He serves as the VA 2nd Jurisdiction's State Minister of Music COGIC, VA 2nd Jurisdiction's AIM Vice-Chairman, Chorum of Directors for the International Music Department COGIC, Department Cantor for the International Department of Evangelism COGIC, Music Coordinator for International Mens Department COGIC, and holds a seat on the Contemporary Adult Division Board of GMWA. Patrick frequently travels the country, as he is called upon to serve as guest conductor, vocalist, clinician, lecturer and evangelist. In 2015 Elder Riddick launched a life empowering bible study entitled "Moments of Deliverance" which is geared to equip and develop all whom desire to grow in their Christian Faith.

Imagine selling millions of records only to end up starting from scratch in an entirely new music industry. This is the story of J.R. Richards and our SMA student guest joining C.J. this week. J.R. was the vocalist for the 90s band Dishwalla, which had two Gold and Platinum albums, and also won Billboard Music and ASCAP Awards. Now as a solo artist with a mainstream sound, C.J and J.R. tackle how to find his audience through other ways than sub-genre targeting. If your music is more mainstream and you are trying to find your audience, this is the episode for you! Key Points From This Episode: Introduction to J.R. Richards Finding old fans vs. making new fans What is your personal brand? Finding your audience as a mainstream artist Focus through resolve Having an ultimate objective Expanding and targeting key audience demographics Culture-based niche marketing Writing emotionally focused copy The almighty play button Juxtaposition to find new ideas Tweetables: “It's one thing to understand everything theoretically, it's another thing to apply to your own music business, and connect with your fans, and figure out how that monetization needs to work for you.” - @metalmotivation [0:10:10] “I love the idea of being resolved because resolved means there's no second guessing, and I don't want to see someone second guess themselves when they need to be marketing.” - @metalmotivation [0:18:43] “I really don't care what your logo looks like because for all intents and purposes, the only logo that people are seeing is a profile pic and a blue name.” - @metalmotivation [0:46:11] “I'm actually excited about going back through the program again just because it's a lot, and you have to kind of mature with it in order to fully appreciate what's going on. It's like reading a book twice that you really enjoy. You're going to get a lot out of it the second time around.” - @JRRICHARDS [0:54:28] Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: J. R.
