Linda (L.V.) Ditchkus has written her whole life. But until eight years ago, her writing was either technical, scholarly, or in travel magazines. In 2015, she jumped into novel writing with both feet. After drafting her first chapter, which only amounted to a few hundred words, she realized she had plenty to learn. So she found a network of writing friends—many through RMFW—who gave her writing tips and pointed her toward writing resources like how-to books and classes. She's grateful for her fantastic writing pals. Being a judge for the 2022 Self Published Science Fiction Competition and a 2023 youth writing competition has deepened her understanding of what makes books and stories stand out. Since her Sasquatch Series won First Place in the Colorado Authors League 2021 Book Awards for Sci-Fi and her short story was included in the last RMFW's anthology (Bizarre Bazaar), Linda plans to stop calling herself a debut author. In addition to marketing the Sasquatch Series, she's recently released the first book in her new series about two time-traveling women from the distant future working desperately to repopulate the world with men.Terrorist factions, a nefarious artificial intelligence, and their own government fight against them. While they struggle to save the unborn babies, the laws of time and space have their own imperatives, and saving everyone they love may be beyond their reach. When Linda's not writing, she leads adventure travel trips for the Colorado Mountain Club and travels with her husband. She's been to more than 100 countries and hiked or climbed in many of those. Part 2 of our coverage of Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman gets a little goofy. As a love letter to the character, it's hard to ignore the wackiness involved in Superman comics, ESPECIALLY the old ones. But this middle chunk of zany helps break up the more serious tones of Part 1 and the upcoming Part 3. This episode covers issues #5-8 of All-Star Superman (2006).

This time on the Rocky Mountain Writer podcast, a chat with the co-editors of Bizarre Bazaar, the brand new short story anthology from Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers that will debut in a few short weeks. Veronica R. Calisto is a massage therapist, an alto, a writer of speculative fiction, and a big nerd. One of those rare Colorado natives, she has a degree in Molecular, Cellular, Developmental Biology and is a two-time American Idol reject. Veronica is best described as a walking musical who might also be a figment of her own imagination. She is the author of several books including Diary of a Mad Black Witch and the first two in the SparkleTits Chronicles series. Amy Drayer grew up a free-range kid on a charming island in the Pacific Northwest, then migrated south to attend Scripps College in California. She later moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked in politics for far too long. Robert Berdella, Jr. is a notorious serial killer whose reign of terror spanned the mid and late 1980's in which he raped, tortured, and murdered men in their 20s using extreme methods of torture in an attempt to make the men slaves who were submissive to him. He is known by his nicknames the Kansas City Butcher, The Collecter (based on a movie he loved), and even Bizarre Bob Berdella (named for his shop "Bob's Bizarre Bazaar). Police were able to end his years of crime when his final victim jumped two stories out a window in Robert's home, surviving and alerting authorities. No bodies of his victims were ever found. Episode 18 Robert Berdella; The Butcher of Kansas CityJoin the hosts for this episode, Lindsay and Jenn of Corpus Delicti as they discuss a story that is truly beyond bizarre: the case of Robert Berdella, known as the Butcher of Kansas City. This story is perfect for Beyond Bizarre, as Berdella was the owner of Bob's Bizarre Bazaar in Kansas City. His curio shop was not what he is famous for, however – it was his torture and murder of six young men between 1984 and 1987 that earned him his fearsome nickname. When one of his captives, who had suffered horrific abuse at Berdella's hands, managed to escape and alert police, authorities unearthed unspeakable horror in the home of the Butcher, including photographs of his sexual assault of young men, evidence of grotesque methods of physical torture , and a skull buried in the backyard. “Best Book Club Ever,” read one sign inside Amazon Books at Seattle's University Village this weekend. On the bookshelves below it were products including an electric 1.5-liter ceramic kettle, a sugar dispenser, and a marble cheese slicer. Elsewhere in the store, shoppers browsed items as varied as a plush baby shark, a Lite Brite, Funko figurines, a USB mic, game consoles, a smart fitness scale, a WiFi router, and kitchen scissors. There was not, as far as I could tell, a kitchen sink. Yes, there were books in this bookstore. But they were surrounded by a cacophony of commerce. Looking around at the seemingly random array of products, it felt like a bookstore subsumed by a variety store — an experiment gone awry, or more likely, an approach influenced by two different executive regimes. No wonder Amazon is pulling the plug, I thought to myself. Frank talks with Tim Beckley for a full hour about Extra-Terrestrials. Timothy Green Beckley is a UFO & paranormal pioneer. He has been described as the Hunter Thompson of ufology by the editor of UFO magazine Nancy Birnes. Since an early age his life has more or less revolved around the paranormal. At the age of three his life was saved by an invisible force. The house he was raised in was thought to be haunted. His grandfather saw a headless horseman. Beckley also underwent out of body experiences starting at age six. And saw his first of three UFOs when he was but ten, and has had two more sightings since – including an attempt to communicate with one of these objects. Tim grew up listening to the only all night talk show in the country that revolved around the strange and unexplained. Long John Nebel’s guests included the early UFO contactees who claimed to have visited other planets and built time machines in the desert. Years later, Tim was to appear on Long John’s show numerous times and over the years has been a frequent guest on hundreds of programs which have come and gone just like ghosts in the night. Over the years he has written over 25 books on everything from rock music to the secret MJ12 papers. He has been a stringer for the national tabloids such as the Enquirer and editor of over 30 different magazines. His longest running effort was the newsstand publication UFO UNIVERSE which went for 11 years. Today he is the president of Inner Light/Global Communications and editor of the Conspiracy Journal and Bizarre Bazaar. He is one of the few Americans ever to be invited to speak before closed door meetings on UFOs presided over by the late Earl of Clancarty at the House of Lords in England. The Inner Light Publications and Global Communications’ catalog of books and video titles now number over 200, including the works of Tim Swartz, T. Lobsang Rampa, Commander X, Brad Steiger, John Keel, Tracy Twyman, Wendelle Stevens and a host of many other authors.

But when we focus too much on the past we flirt with twin dangers – nostalgia and regret. We can idolize the past, enshrine it as a time that was happier, holier, and all round better than now; or we can curse the past - ruminate on mistakes we made, decisions we blew, sins we committed. And those two roads are dead ends. It doesn’t matter which one of them you pick – they will both distract from seeing God now, make you fearful about the future, and depress your mood.

Tim Beckley...TIMOTHY GREEN BECKLEY - UFO & Paranormal Pioneer Tim Beckley has had so many careers that even his own girlfriend doesn't know what he does for a living... Timothy Green Beckley has been described as the Hunter Thompson of UFOlogy by the editor of UFO magazine Nancy Birnes. Since an early age his life has more or less revolved around the paranormal. At the age of three his life was saved by an invisible force. The house he was raised in was thought to be haunted. His grandfather saw a headless horseman. Beckley also underwent out of body experiences starting at age six. And saw his first of three UFOs when he was but ten, and has had two more sightings since - including an attempt to communicate with one of these objects. Tim grew up listening to the only all night talk show in the country that revolved around the strange and unexplained. Long John Nebel's guests included the early UFO contactees who claimed to have visited other planets and built time machines in the desert. Tim was fascinated by everything that went bump in the night - or even in the daylight for that matter. Years later, Tim was to appear on Long John's show numerous times and over the years has been a frequent guest on hundreds of programs which have come and gone just like ghosts in the night. He si a popular guest on Coast to Coast AM. Has appeared on William Shatners Weird Or What? And an episode of UFO Hunters regarding the dreaded Men In Black. He has his own podcast, Unraveling The Secrets and MR UFOs Secret Files, a new YouTube channel. Tim started his career as a writer early on - at age 14 he purchased a mimeograph machine and began to publish the Interplanetary News Service Report. Over the years he has written over 25 books on everything from rock music to the secret MJ12 papers. He has been a stringer for the national tabloids such as the Enquirer and editor of over 30 different magazines (most of which never lasted more than a couple of issues). He visited Loch Ness in Scotland while in the UK and went home with a belief that Nessie was somehow connected with dragons of mythology as well as strange discs engraved on cathedrals and ghostly phenomenon. The Inner Light Publications and Global Communications' catalog of books and video titles now number over 200, including the works of Tim Swartz, T. Lobsang Rampa, Commander X, Brad Steiger, John Keel, Tracy Twyman, Wendelle Stevens and a host of many other authors. He probably knows more about the history of the UFO movement since the early 1950s than anyone today. Because of his fair and balanced approach he made friends with everyone regardless of whether or not he believed their stories. Tim has written over 30 books himself, and contributed to dozens more, including: OUR ALIEN PLANET-THIS EERIE EARTH STRANGE SAGA JOHN LENNON - WE KNEW YOU SECRET PROPHECY OF FATIMA REVEALED SUBTERRANEAN WORLDS INSIDE EARTH THE TRUTH ABOUT CRASHED UFOS UFOS AMONG THE STARS (Celebrity encounters) MJ 12 AND THE RIDDLE OF HANGAR 18 Tim is known among horror movie fans as Mr. Creepo. When asked his major cinema influences he mentions Nancy Reagan as having gotten him involved as a horror host. During the hay day of double features and Time Square grind houses he worked as a movie review critic as well as a publicist for several small film companies. His recent efforts include Skin Eating Jungle Vampires and Blood Sucking Vampire Freaks.

He went from making it on his own at age 15 to become an icon in the ballroom culture for the House Infiniti. Along the way, he graduated with highest honors as the Valedictorian and a Presidential Scholar from Olive Harvey College and graduated in the top 1% of the Honors and Arts and Sciences Colleges as Summa Cum Laude from Chicago State University. His many Ballroom recognitions include being inducted into the Midwest Awards Ball Hall of Fame, receiving the Eric Christian Bazaar Breakthrough award (2002), being deemed a Legend for Bizarre Bazaar (2004), and deemed an Icon for Community Outreach as the Blueprint (2016). He was recently inducted into the Ballroom Scene Radio Hall Of Fame. He does not take his ballroom status lightly, recognizing that with the status comes great responsibility and he's used it to advocate for the LGBTQ community and has been recognized for his efforts to advance social justice and equality. Solomon founded In Demand Entertainment (IDE) in 2002. IDE's mission is to bridge the gap between public health and social service organizations and underserved populations, who are and in-need, at-risk, and often hard-to-reach, as a means for community empowerment. As a tool for fighting the HIV epidemic, Solomon pioneered the concept of getting ball participants screened at a Ball in Chicago. For his efforts to advance social justice and equality for the LGBTQ community, Solomon was also recognized in 2012 by the Coalition for Justice and Respect as a Community Warrior. In 2013 he was appointed by the Gay Liberation Network as a co-chairperson for the March on Springfield for Marriage Equality.

In the 1990s, Portland's Dada Ball was the stuff of legends. An unorthodox gala thrown each year by the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA), the ball was as debaucherous as it was provocative. It happened everywhere from abandoned warehouses to Oaks Park, and brought together an amazing cross section of artists, eccentrics, and counter-culture creatives. This year, to mark its 20th anniversary, PICA is bringing the Dada Ball back on March 16 at the Southeast warehouse space The Redd. They're combining it with their annual gala, TaDa, and calling it TaDaDa – and the now veteran arts organization is hoping it'll be like no fundraiser you've ever attended. In place of an auction, ticket holders can whack their way through an enchanted forest of piñatas stuffed with original art works and gorge themselves at a bacchanalian feast prepared by six different chefs. The evening will also feature the Bizarre Bazaar, an adults-only twist on classic carnival games (think vape toss). At 9pm the doors open to the public for a raucous after party, with music by White Hinterland, DJ Beyonda, and more.To commemorate the event, State of Wonder producer Aaron Scott put together this oral history.Read our full story:
