ATLP Rewind - Originally Released February 27, 2024In our past interviews, we've found that freelance model railroaders have amazing stories to tell and Tim Garland is no exception. On this episode, Tim tells us how he got started in the hobby and how at 14 years old, his mind was made up about becoming a railroader. Tim shares how the story of the Seaboard Central was developed, how it's a form of protest against changes he's observed in the railroad industry, and how the second version of the layout is being built differently from the first and in a way that keeps the flywheel turning without being overwhelming.Learn more about this episode on our website:aroundthelayout.com/rewindThank you to our episode sponsor, Oak Hill Model Railroad Track Supply:https://ohrtracksupply.com/Thank you to our episode sponsor, Tully Models:https://tullymodels.com/

Now hear this here is the true cradle of modern air cargo thinking from some airline people long gone and nearly forgotten.Once upon a time there were two giant all cargo airlines operating from the USA to points internationally. From Los Angeles to the Pacific & Asia was Flying Tigers and from New York Across the Atlantic to Europe,Africa, the Middle East and India was Seaboard World Airlines. This is about Seaboard World Airlines and specifically some excellent people that learned air cargo from its people. On October 1, 1980 Seaboard World Airlines was absorbed by The Flying Tiger Line, Inc., and on December 16, 1988 The Flying Tiger Line, Inc., was absorbed by the Federal Express Corporation.I was thinking about people in our business recently watching Fred Smith on TV talking air cargo.Once upon a time there was John Mahoney at Seaboard talking air cargo. That was 50 years ago. Interesting that the last big time air cargo type, Smith out on the hustings commanding the widest audience of any airline executive in world history (he certainly has also been on top the longest) can look back to a time when big ideas of how to air cargo came from a company he ended up buying. Here we share some Seaboard thinking and also several direct quotes from Mahoney that in 2024 although the talk is aged as we move along 50 years later at jet speed, still makes perfectly good sense. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/geoffrey-arend/support

Stick around as we delve deeper into the implications of Neptune retrograde on the Aquarian sun sign and their financial decisions. Embracing this period as an opportunity, we will explore the power of manifesting wealth through positive thinking and the laws of attraction. Absorb the wisdom of ancient Sanskrit mantras, shared to enhance prosperity and intuition. Harness this cosmic energy to bring your visions into reality. Tune in for an enlightening cosmic journey with yours truly, Jill Jardine on Cosmic Scene.Welcome to the episode on Neptune retrograde from June 30-December 6, 2023, and how we may be affected by this transit. Listen up to learn how your Zodiac Sign will be affected.Neptune is an outer planet in Astrology, also called a transpersonal planet, and where it is transiting has an effect on the Collective consciousness. Neptune is a slower moving planet, taking 165 years to orbit the Sun. It takes 14 years to travel through a Zodiac sign, thus it is a marker of generations, or a generational planet. According to Isabel Hickey in her book, COSMIC ASTROLOGY, “Neptune belongs to another dimension (the psychic worlds). It is not interest in worldly success. It is psychic, mystical dreamy, sensitive, emotional and receptive to nature.” “Fog and mist are related to Neptune for they screen the landscape and one does not see clearly. “Neptune rules the Oceans and the Moon rules the tides. Neptune rules, dissolution, illusion, delusion, scams, thieves, and what is behind the veil or hidden from our conscious view. Neptune also rules ethereal beauty, glamor, the film industry, photography and higher states of consciousness. The transit of Neptune in Pisces is bringing attention to water! The lack of water, inundation of water and the health of our water supply and oceans. We've had an increased amount of hurricanes, floods, rising water lines and water inundation since Neptune has been transiting Pisces. More attention has been brought to ocean life and the health of our oceans, including fish, dolphins and whales. Also, Toxins and Toxicity will be come an issue. Especially toxins in our waters, oil spills and other chemical spills and leaks will be in the news. There will be many water innundations and expect an intense hurricane season on the eastern Seaboard of the United States during this Neptune in Pisces Retrograde, especially because this year, Saturn is also retrograding in Pisces at the same time during the hurricane season.Check out Jill's New on-line courses on Sanskrit Mantras for Wealth, Prosperity, Love and to Develop your intuition! https://jilljardineastrology.com/MCSCheck out this article about Jill Jardine Astrology on MysticMag! https://www.mysticmag.com/psychic-reading/interview-jilljardine/www.jilljardineastrology.comSupport the show

The war in Ukraine is entering what could well be its decisive phase as Kyiv prepares a counter-offensive and Russia announces plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons into Belarus as early as the summer. More than ever before, this moves Belarus onto the front line of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its confrontation with NATO. Yet, for three decades, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka has tried to walk a tightrope between hugging Moscow close and clinging onto policy independence that is domestically popular and secures power for him, his family, and his allies. His increasing economic dependence and the war to his south have forced “Europe's last dictator” to pick a side. In Belarus in Crisis: From Domestic Unrest to the Russia–Ukraine War (Hurst, 2023), Paul Hansbury explains why Lukashenka had no choice but to buckle. He writes that "a 'quiet' annexation of Belarus to Russia is largely happening, even if many Belarusians are unaware of the fact" and “the outcome of the Russo-Ukraine war has arguably become the decisive factor shaping Berlarus's future statehood”. Educated at Birkbeck, University of London, and St Antony's College Oxford, Paul Hansbury is a consulting analyst whose doctoral research was into the foreign policies of small powers - using Belarus as his primary case study. *His own book recommendations were Putin's Kleptocracy: Who Owns Russia? by Karen Dawisha (Simon & Schuster, 2014) and Nostromo: A Tale of the Seaboard by Joseph Conrad (Penguin Classics, 2007 - first published 1904). It's been almost a decade since Peace College became William Peace University and, since 2015, its leader under the new banner has been Dr. Brian Ralph. We talked to him about the school's diverse student body and array of academic studies, its focus on immersive learning, the expansion of arts and athletic programs, the growth of the North Person and Seaboard neighborhoods, and how having daughters in college made him a better school president. Please support the businesses who support us: Papa Murphy's Take N Bake Pizza of Wake County and Steele Residential.Subscribe to Podcast Raleigh on your favorite podcast sites so you never miss an episode, and if you enjoy it we'd love for you to rate or leave a comment:Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/podcast-raleigh/id1458907220Google: https://play.google.com/music/listen?u=0#/ps/Inzk5woxrsjwf3zhd5vv3av4yeiStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/podcast-raleighSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6b3dVvLJfO0EqvDGQaFTAP
More Than Kilts and Cabers: Scottish Gaelic Voices from North America: Seachdain na Gàidhlig: Latha 1 – Gaels of the Atlantic Seaboard From Virginia to Florida and the CaribbeanMore Than Kilts and Cabers: Scottish Gaelic Voices from North America explores the authentic voices of Scottish Highland immigrants in North America. Up to about the First World War most Highlanders spoke Scottish Gaelic as their native language, and some knew no other language. It is not hard to find the celebration of Scottish Highland heritage in the forms of kilts and Highland Games, but few people today seem to realize that these immigrants left us a record of their experiences, thoughts, and feelings in the form of songs and poems, and that this was in fact their favored form of cultural expression as individuals and communities. If we care about the history of Scottish Highlanders as immigrants, and want to understand their lives and perspectives, we need to listen to those voices in their native language – even if we need to translate those Gaelic voices to English. This podcast will be broadcast during Seachdain na Gàidhlig / World Gaelic Week, March 21st through 27th. A new podcast episode will be released every day to explore a different region of North America, discussing the history of Scottish Highland immigrants to the area and the songs and stories that survive to attest to their lives and struggles. This podcast is a collaboration between three North American organizations serving the Gaelic community: An Comunn Gàidhealach Ameireaganach (the American Scottish Gaelic Society), the Hidden Glen Folk School of Scottish Highland Heritage, and Sgoil Gàidhlig Bhaile an Taigh Mhóir (The Gaelic School of Baltimore).Audio Engineer: Tim Thompson, Sgoil Gàidhlig Bhaile an Taigh Mhóir Gaelic learner and Board of Trustees member.Opening song: We Will Go to America, from the CD, “Songs of the Scottish Highlanders in the United States”, by Na Fògarraich.Na Fògarraich Members:Michael Newton - solo vocals, keyboards *Peg Aloi - backing vocalsBenjamin Bruch - backing vocals *Jonathan Dembling - backing vocals *Bennett Hammond - guitarMichael MacNintch - bagpipesEd Pearlman - fiddle *Dan Pitts - step-dancingSusanna Porte - cello* - the members with asterisks are playing on “We will go to America”.
