This week on America's Podcast, it's Black Celebration—or Black Condemnation, depending on who you ask! Jerry wanted an album to tear apart, so Marc handed him one he adores. Will Jerry respect the synth gods, or will he spread blasphemous rumors? Can Mooger be the tie-breaker, or will he just sit back with popcorn? And most importantly—will Marc go full Jerry, but not tonight? No spoilers, but let's just say emotions will be stripped. Tracks of the Week: ▶️ Marc: The Seventh Stranger – Duran Duran (because the ‘80s never die) ▶️ Mooger: Everything – Sevendust (because balance is key) ▶️ Jerry: Battalions – Metal Church (because, of course) Until next time, let's have a Black Celebration and get Stripped—not literally, just emotionally. #AmericasPodcast #DepecheMode #BlackCelebration #MarcVsJerry #BlasphemousRumors #NotTonightJerry #MoogerTheMediator #SynthVsMetal #LetsGetStripped #MusicHotTakes #AlbumWars

With their sixth studio album, "Black Celebration," Depeche Mode embarked on an artistic exploration that delved deeper into the shadows of human existence. Released in 1986, Black Celebration represents a pivotal moment in Depeche Mode's career, marking a departure from their earlier synthpop sound and paving the way for a more mature and brooding sonic landscape. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/albumsthatsaveduspodcast/message
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - Maid of Orleans: Single extraído de su tercer álbum “Architecture & Morality” de 1981. Doctor!

NEW EPISODE UP! What's your most loved and least favorite song on Depeche Mode's Memento Mori album?! We were prepping to take a year off but Sam's suggestion to rank DM's latest before it was even released was too tempting to not do ASAP. It still took us weeks to record and almost a year to release but it's fun to hear our fresh reactions. Even more fun is finally recording recollections of decades of memories of one of our favorite bands of all-time since we hadn't started a podcast when we ranked Black Celebration a few years ago. “Good evening Pasadena !” ... also über unser erstes Depeche-Konzert, was dachtet ihr denn?

In Part 1 of our wild two part ride, Yasi and her guest Patrik Sandberg follow the lads of Depeche Mode from their humble but ambitious Basildon beginnings as they develop their sound by way of a variety of powerful influences, including Daniel Miller of Mute Records, Genesis P-Orridge, and their second home, the city of Berlin, dropping hit single after hit single along the way to their Black Celebration. In this special hour-long episode of Late Nite Take Out, my friend, music journalist, & fellow music lover Josh comes on the show to share his thoughts & have a conversation with me about Music Culture. It was an absolute blast making this episode with him! I got to find out how well-spoken and intelligent my friend is and truly connect over culture. During our conversation, we cover a variety of topics, such as black celebration, cultural appropriation, racism, trends, predictions, & the current state of music. But not only that, but we also just chop it up about life. My favorite parts of the conversation are where Josh talks about when he feels most represented in music, & when he and I talk about feeling "othered" by music. We don't hold back! And, get as honest as we can be. I got to talk about how I relate to music as an Asian American man, too. That felt particularly great. On that topic, Is black music made only for black people? What is the responsibility of the listener, and artist, when taking part in a culture that is not theirs? All things we talk about in this episode. Timestamps 1 - 14min. Introductions, Black Celebration, Cultural Appropriation 14 - 30min. When Josh felt most represented in Music, artists who push the boundaries, & who is music made for? 46 - 58min. Daniel talks about feeling "othered" in Music 58 - 64min. Josh closes up the show!

Producer/Engineer/Mixer Gareth Jones didn't set out to be the "synth guy", but that didn't stop him from working closely with some of the greatest synth artists ever. First came John Foxx and his first solo album, the revolutionary Metamatic. Then came a string of legendary albums with Depeche Mode like Black Celebration and Some Great Reward. And lastly, he continues to work with Erasure and produced albums of theirs like Wild! and Cowboy. There have also been notable work with bands like Wire, Interpol, Embrace, and Grizzly Bear. Gareth also has some recent solo projects that deserve your attention like Electrogenetic. We get stories about all of it and learn how Gareth was the man to help these people find their creative voices. It’s time for Steve and Remfry to delve into their big box of classic albums and pull out another one of their all time favorite records. We’re going slightly off piste this week, as we delve deep into the career of electro pop innovators turned synth rock megastars Depeche Mode. In this first part, you might be surprised to learn, we have picked the band's 1987 sixth album Music For The Masses. Sandwiched between the groundbreaking Black Celebration and the commercial juggernaut of Violator, MFTM is scandalously overlooked in the DM back catalogue, and we discuss why it is the best (YOU HEARD ME, BEST) Depeche Mode album. Starting with a quick potted history of the band, and of electronic music, we look at the ongoing improvements in the studio, the increasing involvement of Alan Wilder, how the finished album started to change the perception of the band, the tour that followed the record and, of course, the huge Pasadena Rose Bowl show that cemented the band as a stadium act and was captured on the infamous 101 live tour document. Before teasing the second part of this double bill, where we will be looking at Violator; Part two is available at patreon.com/riotactpodcast. But Not Tonight" (1986) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrzPAiKEu6s).

This week's episode is the last one recorded in Portland a couple weeks ago. Sorry for the delay but whatever there aren't even days any more so who cares. Hard to talk about anything other than all the virus horseshit so sorry guys. This week's breaks are "Black Celebration" by Depeche Mode and "Stories of the Street" by Leonard Cohen.

Rec (2007) This 2007 Spanish found footage film written and directed by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza would set the world on fire with their debut film that would spawn three sequels. The film centers on a news reporter and cameraman covering a fireman’s intervention in a Barcelona apartment building. The situation escalates as a murderous disease takes roots in the occupants causing them to be animalistic in nature. The film would be remade for the American audience as Quarantine but would not capture the original films flair and audiences. The film holds a 90% approval rating and is listed on numerous top 100 film lists for the year it released and all time favorite horror films. It is one film that totally holds you captive from the opening to closing frames. Opening Credits (.22); Introduction (4.59); Forming the Plot (9.12); Film Trailer (15.40); Lights, Camera, Action (18.50); Epilogue (1:16.03); End Credits (1:24.02); Closing Credits (1:26.31) Opening Credits: Disease – by Alli Fitz – Single available now through Amazon Closing Credits: Shake The Disease by Depeche Mode – Taken from the album Black Celebration. SONIC ACTS FESTIVAL 2019 – HEREAFTER Post-Screening Discussion: Tony Cokes in conversation with Mirna Belina. 23 February – De Brakke Grond, Amsterdam, The Netherlands Following the screening of Black Celebration (1988, 17 min) Tony Cokes discusses the film with Mirna Belina and takes questions from the audience. In Black Celebration (1988, 17 min), Tony Cokes merges newsreel footage of riots in urban black neighbourhoods in the 1960s with popular music and text commentary to create an incisive counter-reading. ‘This videotape involves the riots that took place in the Watts section of Los Angeles, California in August, 1965 and the Black neighbourhoods of other American cities during the 1960s. The black and white work uses newsreel footage from events in Watts, Boston, Newark, and Detroit interspersed with text commentary. The newsreel voiceovers are replaced by music. The intent of the piece is to introduce a reading that will contradict received ideas which characterise these riots as criminal or irrational.’ (T.C.) Black Celebration was made for the Bronx Museum of the Arts. Text: Morrissey, Martin L. Gore, Barbara Kruger, The Situationists International; Music: Skinny Puppy; Editor: Eleanor Goldsmith. Tony Cokes makes video, installation, print, sound and other works that reframe appropriated texts to reflect upon capitalism, subjectivity, knowledge and pleasure. Cokes deploys sound as a crucial, intertextual element, complicating minimal visuals. He has shown works internationally at venues including Centre Georges Pompidou, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum, ZKM, REDCAT and La Cinémathèque Française. Cokes has screened at festivals including the Berlin Biennale X, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid and Oberhausen. Cokes is Professor in Modern Culture and Media at Brown University, Providence, RI. His work is represented by Greene Naftali Gallery, New York.
SONIC ACTS FESTIVAL 2019 – HEREAFTER Tony Cokes – the next ‘revolution’? 07.2001 (revised 02.2019) – or progress does not exist 23 February – De Brakke Grond, Amsterdam, The Netherlands With an introduction by Ash Sarkar. In his talk, Tony Cokes will revisit some of his ideas he deployed in a talk presented in July 2001. He will begin with Black Celebration (1988), his first work to examine the legacy of the late 60s and early 70s. That video appropriated newsreel images of urban uprisings in Watts, Boston, Detroit and Newark. Cokes juxtaposed the footage with an ‘industrial’ music soundtrack by Skinny Puppy and visual text quotations, prominently from Situationist International’s The Decline and Fall of the Spectacle-Commodity Economy. The video re-presents these historical events from a distant, but desiring perspective that would counter Reagan-era amnesia or dismissal. Cokes’ presentation will discuss this period in relation to a trajectory within his artistic practice that questions the mythic idea of progress. He will connect three threads: his scepticism with regard to historical constructions, the media’s attempted conversion of ‘revolution’ into a debased marketing trope, and the question of how these representations resonate in our current climate of fear and proto-fascist nationalisms. Ach, tatsächlich, schon so lange her? Ist No More's "Suicide Commando" wirklich schon 1981 herausgekommen?

For the first installment of our Out of Pocket supplemental series we take on one of the iconic bands of the ‘80s new wave synth scene and the album that saw them transition from teen pop to introspective maturity.

Welcome to episode 88 of #PositronicRadio. Thanks to everyone who came out to Black Celebration this past Saturday. What a party it was! My next event will be held this upcoming March and I'll mention it in a future episode's description once I have more details. This episodes features some of my favourite tracks from 2017. It's definitely not my best recording, some of my transitioning between songs may not be the greatest since I was a lot more tired than I thought when I decided to start recording tonight. Either way, I hope that you'll enjoy it since the episode contains great tracks. Welcome to episode 87 of #PositronicRadio. Black Celebration is fast approaching. It's happening on Saturday, December 9 at Cafe Dekcuf. The dancing starts at 10 PM and there is no cover before 11 PM or with an advance free ticket, otherwise it's $5 at the door. Mark yourselves as Attending on the Facebook event if you're planning on attending and you can sign up for your free ticket by checking out Cafe Dekcuf's on-line ticket store. I got my Traktor Kontrol Z1 controller just in time to record this new episode so this is the first episode where I'm only using my Traktor Kontrol X1 and Z1 together. With new hardware, always comes a few screw ups here and there but from listening to the new episode, it's really not that bad. This episode features the following tracks: Dismantled - The Hero (00:00) Ghost Twin - Mystic Sabbath (04:00) Projekt Ich - Where Are The Angels (L_igh_T Remix) (07:45) Omnimar - Sadizm (English Version) (13:05) Ayria - Crash And Burn (16:33) X-Rx - Shut The F* Up And Die (19:38) Ludovico Technique - Absence (Massive Ego Remix) (23:56) Zombie Girl - Panic Attack (Venal Flesh Mix) (28:56) Electrovot - Heal The Blind (33:08) Blume - Blackening (Stars Crusaders Remix) (36:47) Chainreactor - The Powers (41:04) Xenturion Prime - Milestone (45:30) Reichsfeind - Carrousel (49:50) Thee Flanders - You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) (feat. Welcome to episode 85 of #PositronicRadio. I have started promoting my first club night since my return from hiatus a few months ago so for those who will be in Canada's national capital region, come check out Black Celebration at Cafe Dekcuf (221 Rideau St, 2nd Floor) on Saturday, December 9 starting at 10 PM. I will be doing a special spotlight on Depeche Mode. Since I normally stick to one song per band during a club night, I'll be playing more than one Depeche Mode song and I'll also be playing some covers of their songs as well. There is no cover before 11 PM, but after it goes up to $5 so come early if you don't want to pay a cover. If you're planning on attending, make sure to put yourself as attending on the Facebook event. This episode features the following tracks: FIRES - To Be All Alone (00:00) Patenbrigade: Wolff - Der Brigadier trinkt Bier! (DBtinB! Episode 35: Depeche Mode - A Broken Frame (1982) Part 1 Last week, Brian and Sarah talked about the two newest releases from the legendary Boys from Basildon, the mighty Depeche Mode! This week they go back almost to the very beginning with 1982's "A Broken Frame." While it may not be the band's first album, it's the first to be completely penned by Mr. Martin L. Gore. Part 1: Background 1982 was a hectic, crazy year for Depeche Mode. After finally earning a top ten record with "Just Can't Get Enough", chief songwriter Vince Clarke announced he was leaving the band. With an extensive tour already booked and momentum growing with each new single, Depeche couldn't afford to let it slow them down! How did the band members react to the situation and what did the public think about this new direction? Brian and Sarah paint a verbal picture of late September 1982 when "A Broken Frame" appeared in shops all around the world and take us inside the DM camp with quotes from and stories of Dave, Martin, and Fletch! Part 2: Personal History It's the least engaging"Personal History" segment yet as both Brian and Sarah realize they have nothing interesting to say about their discovery of this record. Sorry folks!! Part 3: Track by Track This is it, friends - the first side of the first record to ever come fully from the musical mind of Martin Gore! Was this batch of songs an instant classic like "Violator" and "Black Celebration" - or did Martin have to learn to walk before he could fly? How did this record differ from "Speak and Spell?" Why did Dave seem to love bow ties so much? What's the deal with this 5.1 surround mix Brian keeps going on about? What does Sarah think about Julian Temple's videos for "Leave In Silence" and "See You?" All these questions and more are answered in this week's episode! I want you to relate my podcast show with a thoughtful broadcast, so I have now added the subtitle, Food for Thought, in iTunes. The take-away from this episode, could be: customer service is the key, and the workflow of a producing a podcast could be daunting... ;) [Editor's note: I saved the recording as wave file, and then tried to export through Audacity. I got a "lame" error message, and tried with Garageband instead. I managed to export it as a M4A file, after I tried with the MP3 format without success. When do you think the M4A file will become the most popular format out there?
