You can keep your dreams under wraps or unleash them into the world. For the musicians who comprise Dream Phases, holding back their musical visions has not been an option. Conceived in the private recesses of their L.A. home base, the band has expanded outwards by drawing upon the rich sonic heritage of West Coast pop/rock and skillfully reimagining it for the 21st Century. But beyond its finely wrought sound and texture, there's an intensely personal quality to the work they create together. The dreams they explore transcend mere craft and calculation.Emerging from the City of Angels' neo-psychedelic rock scene in 2017, Dream Phases reflects California's natural splendor and adventuresome inner spirit in its music. The earthy-yet-exalted sounds of the Byrds, the Beach Boys and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – as well as latter-day artists like the Rain Parade, Elliott Smith and Autolux – figure into the band's family tree. While this lineage is worth noting, what comes through in the band's latest work is an individual approach that translates the experiences of its members into something undeniably compelling. Dream Phases' initial flowering was as a solo project by Brandon. After gaining a wealth of experience working with such notable L.A.-area combos as Blank Tapes, the Relationship, Levitation Room and Nacosta, he decided to fully develop the songwriting side of his talents on his own. What began as a homebrewed project quickly turned into a collaborative stew as brother Shane and compadre Keveen helped him develop his compositions into a full-blown sound. Thanks for listening!!! Aliens, Seinfeld, and desert internet. Pearl Charles (Pearl Charles, The Blank Tapes) "Charles has been playing music since she was 5 years old. At 18, she formed country duo The Driftwood Singers with Christian Lee Hutson, singing and playing guitar and autoharp. At 22, she joined garage rock band The Blank Tapes as drummer. After two fun-filled years immersed in the rock and roll lifestyle, she decided it was time to pursue her own songwriting, and began developing the songs that formed 2015′s eponymous debut EP. Drawn to poppy hooks and catchy choruses, Charles draws on what she loves about the 60s, 70s and 80s while developing her unique style as a solo artist. In 2018, Pearl released debut album, Sleepless Dreamer, which Rough Trade described as "The best country pop we've heard in years" and Buzzfeed called her "A modern June Carter meets Lana Del Rey." With the upcoming release of the follow up, Magic Mirror, out January 15, 2021, Pearl leans into furthering her own brand of country-disco." Welcome to Roadcase!! We're extra-hyped to have Ash Reiter of Sugar Candy Mountain on this special 4/20 edition of the show. As an appropriate acknowledgement to today's date, Ash, along with her husband and musical partner, Will Halsey, are together the driving force behind this trippy, space-age psychedelic pop band that will melt your soul as well as your mind. While the vibe sounds recalls acid-soaked Beatles and Tame Impala, the impetus is more about the infinite possibilities of the creative mind. It's also about the tonal and overall musical surprises more than achieving a level of psychedelia as an end in itself. While the mood is trippy and fun, the music is superbly crafted with lovely, singable melodies. The duo are also parents of young children and Ash is looking forward to taking the entire family on the road starting in May. Their latest album, Impression, is more evidence of their wide-ranging musical influences (Brazilian band, Os Mutantes, for example) as well as the sweeping and lush soundscapes of their psychedelic-influenced vibes. So hop on the Roadcase Bus and learn more about Ash Reiter -- the Mom and musician. It's gonna be a great ride! For more information: https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comContact: info@roadcasepod.comTheme music: "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer

It should be noted that this experience takes place in the mid-nineties…when cell phones weren’t common for most people. After a break up, Amy moves into a apartment and has mixed emotions about living on her own for the first time. However, as time goes on she starts to enjoy her new home…until the middle of the night phone calls begin to disrupt her sleep. As time continues, other strange occurrences take place that make her suspect that someone, or rather something, is stalking her. When Amy seeks the advice from the woman who lives next to her, she isn’t ready to accept what the neighbor lady has to says until one night when she is force to admit that some things are not of this world. This paranormal story was shared with me by someone that I’ll refer to as B. It is from an experience that they had as a child, and I thought it would be fun to write the narrative from a younger point of view. Once the story was complete, I thought it would be even more fun, to have it read by a child as well. So, joining me on this episode is a very special young lady named Mia. This was her first experience with podcasting, and she did a fantastic job. I think you’ll agree, and if so, could you be so kind to give her a shout out in one of our Unearthly groups. When Ethan is invited by his friends, Brandon and Tricia, to tag along on a nighttime adventure to check out the site of a famed urbane legend, he is hesitant at first, but decided to tag along to the cemetery. When the group arrives to the site, Ethan realizes that they are not alone and their every move is being watched. When he finds himself alone among the graves, he tries to tell himself that what he is feeling has to be his imagination…because that’s the only explanation that makes sense. I wasn’t planning on doing a valentine’s day special, but after interviewing Regina and hearing her paranormal experience, I knew that this story was the perfect one for this week. I think you’ll understand why by the end of this episode. Regina is thrilled to move into her boyfriend’s house. Even if the home is old, a bit run down and kinda spooky. But she isn’t afraid. She falls in love with the house, and feels right at home. Even if it is haunted by a man who enjoys her company a little too much. It isn’t long before Regina and the spirit strike an unusual secret relationship. When the spirit makes his feelings known, Regina realizes that even in death, some things, never change. Although, Regina was eager to share her story with me, she asked that her name, and the name of her boyfriend (who’s now her husband) be changed to protect their privacy. So, sit back, try to relax as you remember that this story, Phantom Man, is based on true events. Welcome to Ep. 3 of Unearthly. A podcast dedicated to paranormal stories based on true events. This story is a little different. It’s three different events experienced by one person that occurred at separate times, yet the experiences appear to be connected. When our protagonist awakes from a summer slumber he is repulsed by a smell that he can’t ignore. The smell, however, is the least of his worries when he sees a green orb in the corner of the room… What it morphs into is something that the teenager will never forget. Years later, when he is visiting his girlfriend, he smells something familiar. The allure of the smell and beckoning of the entity is nearly too much for his to ignore. Tonight’s paranormal tale was shared by Brian. Some of the aspects of this story may seem a bit far-fetched which he is aware of. But during the interview I was struck by his sincerity while telling me about this haunting. Despite the strangeness of this event I have no doubt that he and his family were absolutely tormented by something unearthly. So, sit back, try to relax as you remember that this story, The Green Creature, is based on true events. When 13-year-old Michelle is invited to an older friend’s slumber party, she is thrilled to be included. Arriving to the party she is surprised to learn that the girls will be sleeping in the spooky cold dark basement. Throughout the evening she’s plague with the feeling of being watched, and a chill she can’t shake. When the girls play truth or dare, Michelle has to decide what she is willing to do in order to fit in. Tonight’s episode is a paranormal tale wrapped with friendship complications, the growing up, and a loss of innocence. It questions if a room can hold memories, feelings and burdens. It wonders if some are more sensitive to paranormal experiences than others. It reminds of us all of how easy it is to disregard our gut feeling when we so desperately want to belong. Tonight’s story was shared by Michelle, and since it’s not one that she tells openly or frequently, I was touched that she so candid with her experience. So, sit back, try to relax as you remember that this story is based on a true event. In the Heart of the Order, we induct our own Shoo-In Hall of Fame bands. In the Bullpen Session, we recommend music from Bop English, Jaco Pastorius and The Blank Tapes.
On this episode, we discuss the latest iteration of the famous Konami Code, nestled into some swanky websites; we salute the wisdom of small children, and we shake our heads in disbelief as a San Francisco news anchor pulls a Ron Burgundy by reading ethnic jokes off the teleprompter as if they are hard news. With music from The Blank Tapes and a soulful Internet Challenge Surprise. Links: rumorsontheinternets.org/episode32

Those who have listened to the latest album by Ralph Cumbers will know something of his huge love for the rhythms of Africa. Earlier this year Ralph ripped and re-edited a number of his favourite vinyls from the motherland. The resulting mix — released as part of Fact Magazine's consistently excellent podcast series — is the most colourful and crazed selection of music we've heard so far this year. If you missed it (Fact's podcasts are available for three weeks only), don't fear as Ralph recently asked Spannered to give the mix a permanent home. Mr Clef talks about the mix, his current African obsessions and the recent album in an interview over at the Fact site. Those new to his work may also want to check Spannered's interview with him back in 2006. You’d be forgiven for thinking The Blank Tapes were a band. Really, it’s just Matt Adams, multi-instrumentalist and incredible songwriter. When he plays live, he usually brings along friends, but the albums are all Matt. And all brilliant. He stopped by during a solo tour, but we got him to accompany himself through the magic […]
Hold a chicken in the air, stick a deckchair up your nose and crank your amp to eleven — because we've another white-hot selection for you from the one and only El Kano of London's Adverse Camber collective. This man's DJ mixes are always bang on point, and this delightful spread of grimey electronica and twitchy dubstep is no exception. If you missed the mix he recorded specially for the site last year, head here and fill your lugholes — and should you be in need of more, drag your arse over to his page on the Adverse Camber site. Being a bit of a Photoshop wizard, he's concocted some cool artwork for the mix too. Enjoy! Tracklisting: Ben Frost — Bleeding the Sacred Heart (Inventing Zero Records) Shackleton feat.
