I uncover what my clients fear and desire so I can help them arrive at their authentic story. Together we translate the experience of living into a sense of purpose.I believe that my clients know what they need and want to say; it is my purpose to listen it out of them, to help them say it in their own true words making me the only “story doula” I know. One of my clients said this: “Diane is like the practice wall or backboard on a tennis court that tirelessly reflects the problems you are bouncing toward her and returns with solutions you didn't know you had.” If you are curious to learn more email me: info@quartermoonstoryarts.net for a no-obligation conversationYou're invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, follow, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time! The first person Madison Keys sent a message to after winning the Australian Open for her first Grand Slam title was her mother. "Because," a smiling Keys said, "of course, you have to text Mom first." One of the others the 29-year-old American quickly reached out to was her therapist. Keys credits their conversations over the past 1 1/2 years with helping her in life, generally—understanding herself, discovering what truly matters—but also on a tennis court, whether it comes to accepting that nerves will arrive during a match or deciding she would be okay with never winning a major trophy. Keys said during an interview with The Associated Press that she and her therapist "talked a lot" during this trip overseas, including after a narrow victory over qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round. "I called her and said that I was kind of just dealing with some things. And we were able to talk," Keys said. "And then we kind of just continued to text since then." They speak weekly or every other week during the season when possible. "There's also the reality of: Sometimes, I'm like, 'Hey, I need to talk mid-tournament,'" Keys explained. "Sometimes it's even just being able to go back and forth (with) someone that can just kind of provide some support." Keys said she first tried speaking with a sports psychologist when she was around 18 or 19, then tried working with others. "Never really found anyone that I quite connected with and clicked with," she said. "And then, I finally kind of pivoted and went with my current therapist." "The stigma around therapy, in general, not just in sports, I think, is slowly starting to go away. I think that everyone should be in therapy, no matter what. I think it helps," Keys said. "No matter what's going on in your life, you're going to have moments where things are tough, and you need someone to talk to. I think it's very important." This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Lester Kiewit speaks to Professor David Attwell about the ambitious plan to restore Simon’s Town’s historic tennis courts. What started as a vision in 2022 has now grown into a full-fledged project, with the Simon's Town Civic Association, the SA Navy Dockyard’s Facilities Management Department, and Cape Town Tennis joining forces. With over 100 members already signed up for the newly established Simon’s Town Tennis Club, the R2.7 million restoration aims to bring the courts back to life for both naval personnel and the wider community. Lester and Professor Attwell unpack the significance of this project, its impact on local schools, and what it means for the future of tennis in Simon’s Town.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

[From the archive: This episode was originally recorded and published in 2022] On Episode 392 of The Tennis Files Podcast, I spoke with actor and tennis coach Christopher Crabb about how he went from both competing on the court and acting at the highest level to coaching famous celebrities. Chris is a tennis coach in Los Angeles with an A-list rolodex of clients. His tennis students include George Clooney, Alec Baldwin, Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Kline, Elle Fanning, Steve Carell, Pete Wentz from Fallout Boy, Dakota Fanning and Jeff Probst. Chris tutored Robert Downey Jr. for his Oscar-nominated role in the film "Chaplin," for which Chris also served as tennis coordinator. He began acting at the age of eight and has starred in many commercials, movies and series including the remake of "A Christmas Carol", "Danger Bay", "Life Goes On", "Rebel Highway", and many more. Chris was a highly-ranked junior tennis player and turned pro at the age of 16. He has defeated grand slam champions Michael Chang and Jim Courier. On the show, you'll learn how Chris developed his skills in tennis and acting and how he managed to do both at the highest level, the biggest challenges he faces when teaching celebrities, his unique green jacket approach of coaching, the biggest mistakes that amateur tennis players make, why players don't play well during competition vs. practice, and much more! I hope you enjoy my interview with Chris! Let us know what you think about this episode in the comments below! South Africa has had its share of UFO reports, and thanks to Zimbabwe-based researcher Cynthia Hind, who put out UFO Afrinews from July 1988 to July 2000, we have a record of many of them. In the 1970s, Charles Bowen, the editor of London-based Flying Saucer Review, also had his eye on South Africa, and in the January-February 1973 issue, he mentions a flap there that, according to him, began in July 1972. Along with other reports, he presents a newspaper account of a dramatic case involving a UFO that seemingly damaged a tennis court in the town of Rosmead in the Eastern Cape Province. Hind gives details of the case in the first issue of UFO Afrinews, calling it “perhaps my best case” when it comes to physical trace cases and references her book, UFOs: African Encounters, as the source. Since Nadal and Federer are no longer the leading men in tennis we have seen a lot more top players start to use excuses after a loss. Alcaraz, Rune, Sinner even Novak have been guilty of explaining why they played so bad rather than compliment their opponents in recent months. Could this be the new trend? Enjoy

Saturday April 8th, 1944. New York City. It's a rainy day before Easter and World War II news is dominating consciousness. There are cracks in Germany's foundation. On Tuesday April 4th, allied surveillance aircrafts photographed the Auschwitz concentration camp. Knowing this, the Nazis will spend the next four months using the gas chambers and incinerators to their full capacity. Twenty-thousand people could be murdered each day. The Germans have lost five u-boats in three days on both fronts while simultaneously facing heavy fighting against the Soviets in Ukraine. They've been repeatedly forced to retreat. On Good Friday, April 7th, Adolph Hitler suspended all law in Berlin and made Joseph Goebbels the sole administrator of the city. On this day, April 8th, The Battle of the Tennis Court began in Burma, while Soviet forces invaded Romania. At the same time, U.S. bombers shelled Brunswick. The early 1944 Bombings of German cities gave German citizens their first hard evidence that the tide of the war had turned. And everyone in Europe knew a full scale Allied western invasion was coming. Amidst the gloom, at 1:45PM from WEAF in New York, John McVane took to the air with NBC's War Telescope looking at both war news and peacetime negotiation. Saturday's New York Daily News reported on the U.S. navy's recent sinking of forty-six Japanese ships, while they shot down more than two hundred planes in a three day period. Inflation hadn't risen in an entire year, as Americans looked forward to international air travel after the war. It made for an interesting Easter Sunday forecast. ___________ It's 11:30AM on a rainy Easter Sunday, April 9th, 1944 in New York. We're taking a ride inside a 1942 Oldsmobile B44 coupe. There have been no new automobiles manufactured in the U.S. since February 1942. All resources have been put towards the war effort. We've just switched on the radio to CBS's New York affiliate. Invitation To Learning is about to air. First taking to the air on May 26th, 1940, it was chaired by Lyman Bryson with a rotating panel. Based on a class at St. John's College in Annapolis, Invitation To Learning was developed at the suggestion of Stringfellow Barr, school president, who also served on the CBS Adult Education board. By exploring classic literature, Barr contended that radio could be a keynote in liberal education. Three or four people had a spontaneous discussion about a particular book. For twenty-four years and more than twelve-hundred episodes, the show sparked as much debate amongst listeners and rival networks as the programs themselves. Notable guests included Norman Corwin, John Houseman, Eva LeGallienne, Herbert Hoover,, Hans Conried, and Lillian Gish. Opposite on NBC's WEAF was a commentary from Don Hollenbeck, while Mutual's WOR broadcast an Easter Sunrise Service from the Hollywood Bowl, and The Blue Network's WJZ broadcast The Hour of Faith.
