Avec Dire Straits, Elvis Presley, The Doors, The Doors, Antonio Carlos Jobim et Radiohead En 1983, Dire Straits se permet un peu de légèreté avec "Twisting By The Pool", danser le twist autour d'une piscine. Mark Knopfler écrit ce titre en réponse à l'album précédent, "Love Over Gold" chef-d'œuvre de rock progressif, pour prouver que Dire Straits est avant tout un groupe de rock'n'roll. Danser sur des rythmes plus latino, de la bossa-nova, en 1958, le King, Elvis Presley nous invite à danser sur "Bossa-Nova Baby". L'intro du batteur John Densmore des Doors sur le célèbre "Break On Through" en 1967 inspiré du classique " Girl from Ipanema ". La bossa-nova va influencer Radiohead, "The Present Tense", de l'album "A Moon Shaped Pool" en 2016, qui nous surprend avec ce rythme latino. --- Du lundi au vendredi, Fanny Gillard et Laurent Rieppi vous dévoilent l'univers rock, au travers de thèmes comme ceux de l'éducation, des rockers en prison, les objets de la culture rock, les groupes familiaux et leurs déboires, et bien d'autres, chaque matin dans Coffee on the Rocks à 6h30 et rediffusion à 13h30 dans Lunch Around The Clock.

Robby Krieger On Live At The Matrix 1967: The Original MastersThe Doors were a few months away from stardom in March 1967 when they played five sparsely attended shows at a small club in San Francisco called The Matrix. These uninhibited performances would have been fleeting if not for Peter Abram, who co-owned  the pizza parlor-turned-nightclub with Jefferson Airplane founder Marty Balin. An avid recordist, Abram taped concerts at The Matrix regularly and his recordings of The Doors, made between March 7-11, 1967, spawned one of the band's most storied bootlegs.  At long last, all known Matrix recordings, sourced entirely from Abram's original master recordings, will be released on September 8.Bootlegs of The Matrix shows have circulated among fans for years and were popular despite the poor audio quality of most copies. The sound began improving in 1997 when the first two songs from The Matrix shows were officially released on The Doors: Box Set. Even more performances followed in 2008 on Live at the Matrix 1967; regrettably, it was discovered soon after that all the recordings were sourced from third-generation tapes, not the originals. Today, Abram's original recordings have been remastered by Bruce Botnick, The Doors' longtime engineer/mixer, for official release. The vinyl version of LIVE AT THE MATRIX 1967: THE ORIGINAL MASTERS includes all 37 songs from the shows sourced from the master tapes. Except for 15 songs released in 2017 and 2018 as Record Store Day exclusives, most of the newly upgraded live recordings are making their debut in the collection, including eight that have never been featured on any of the previous Matrix releases.It's easy to understand the enduring appeal of these vintage performances by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, and John Densmore. Recorded only a few months before “Light My Fire” propelled the band to worldwide success, the tapes capture The Doors playing a wide range of songs, including several from their self-titled debut, like “Break On Through,” “Soul Kitchen,” and “The End.” They also performed half the songs destined for the group's soon-to-be-recorded second album, Strange Days, including early performances of “Moonlight Drive” and “People Are Strange.” 15 Sets of music over five nights at The Matrix gave the band time to indulge its love of the blues with extended covers of “I'm A King Bee” and “Crawling King Snake.” The Doors even delivered an instrumental version of “Summertime.” These special moments all contribute to making Live at The Matrix, 1967all the more fascinating and important, as it showcases The Doors as the nascent struggling young band they were. Listening to The Doors when I was 9 and 10 opened up my musical world so much more than bands like the Beatles did. Don’t get me wrong, I love yellow submarines as much as the next u-boat commander but I met the darkly cool poet persona in songs like The End and Waiting for the Sun. I became all too familiar with the torture of losing friends, and of longing for closure when I was a teenager. Hearing Morrison sing, “waiting for you to tell me what went wrong” still resonates with me as much as it did when I was in junior high. I could relate to that so much more than when Lennon and McCartney sang, “I wanna hold your hand.” I never held girls’ hands in school. Along with the vocals and lyrics in Break on Through, the gritty distorted guitar, the vox continental organ, the bossa nova drums always remind me of driving, accelerating, smashing through whatever it is that keeps me locked up inside myself. John Densmore is best known as the drummer for the Doors. He's currently on tour promoting his new book, The Doors: Unhinged (Jim Morrison's Legacy Goes on Trial). In it, he details the forces which ultimately drove him and the remaining members of the doors apart. One prominent bone of contention was an  offer of a considerable sum by General Motors for the use of "Break On Through" in a Cadillac advertisement, and Densmore's objections to it. John and I talk about the book and other things, like alternative energy. His tour will take him to among other places, Record archive in Rochester, NY on Monday, April 22nd at 5PM.
