Church services mostly happen on the weekends. And that's all well and good but we spend most of our time between Sundays. Welcome to a podcast for normal people by normal people that dives into conversations and stories happening in and around Grace Church. 3 staff members host this weekly podcast…
The Between Sundays podcast is an incredible resource for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of faith and scripture. As someone who recently joined Grace church, I have found this podcast to be a valuable companion to my church experience. The love and commitment to community that emanates from the hosts and the discussions they have truly align with the teachings of God. The podcast does an excellent job of keeping it real and delving into the previous sermon, providing further insight and reflection. The unique perspectives of the hosts challenge me to develop my own way of interpreting scripture and fostering a deeper connection with God. Overall, I am thrilled to be a friend of the pod!
One of the best aspects of The Between Sundays podcast is the diversity among its hosts. As a man from an older generation, I appreciate how this podcast helps bridge the gap between different age groups. The individual strengths and experiences of each host shine through when they work together as a team, creating a dynamic and engaging atmosphere. Additionally, I have grown to appreciate the personal chatter at the beginning of each episode, as it adds a relatable touch to the discussions about faith and scripture.
While there are many positives to this podcast, one potential drawback is that occasionally the personal chatter at the beginning can stretch out longer than desired. Some listeners may prefer a more direct approach to diving into the core content right away. However, once they do get into discussing the Bible and exploring faith issues, it becomes clear that these discussions are challenging, encouraging, thought-provoking, and sincere.
In conclusion, The Between Sundays podcast is an amazing resource that wonderfully complements weekend services at Grace church. It provides an opportunity for listeners to dive deeper into messages received during sermons and encourages personal growth in interpreting scripture and developing a stronger relationship with God. Not only does it bridge generational gaps through its diverse hosts but also offers entertaining yet touching energy that makes every episode enjoyable. This podcast is truly a remarkable depiction of what it means to be an everyday Christ follower.
IN THIS EPISODE: Why did Jesus heal people with disabilities and what does that mean for us today? In this episode, Tyler, Maron, and Barry unpack Matthew 9:27–34, where Jesus heals two blind men in a culture that saw disability as shameful. But the story raises deeper questions: Why do healing stories cause discomfort in the modern disability community? If healing is tied to faith, what does that imply for people today who aren't healed? Why does Jesus sometimes mention forgiving sins and sometimes not? Does physical healing imply something was broken before and how does that affect our theology of wholeness? We also explore the 3 R's of application from the sermon: Remember those the world has forgotten, Reject the values of our broken world, and Receive the mercy of our Savior. Watch as we dig into ancient shame culture, contractual theology, and how the church can faithfully preach healing without unintentionally reinforcing harmful assumptions. ⏰ TIMESTAMPS: 0:09 - What's New with the Gang 00:44 - Pacers NBA Finals Loss & Family Reactions 15:05 - Transition to Sermon Discussion 20:00 - Disability, Healing, and Ancient Context 27:27 - Faith, Healing, and Discomfort 32:22 - Theology of Healing & Faith 36:36 - Prophecy, Inclusion, and New Creation 42:59 - Jesus, Context, and Social Inclusion 46:21 - Healing, Wholeness, and Social Models 52:24 - Remembering the Forgotten & Mercy 56:36 - Rejecting Broken World Values 01:03:09 - Receiving Mercy & Contractual Theology 01:06:21 - Where Do We Go Next?
IN THIS EPISODE: In this episode of Between Sundays, Tyler, Maron, and Barry return to the Gospel of Matthew (chapters 8–9) to talk tax collectors, table fellowship, and the transforming power of Jesus' mercy. What does it mean that Jesus called someone like Matthew, a despised collaborator and social outcast, to follow Him? Why did Jesus share a meal with "sinners and scum"? And what do ancient customs like reclining at the table, status symbols, and mercy over sacrifice still teach us about following Jesus today? We're diving deep into Week 9 of the Follow Me series at Grace Church, unpacking: - Jesus' absolute authority and radical inclusion - The cultural and spiritual weight of eating together - Why Matthew's calling is a turning point in God's new kingdom - Hosea 6:6, mercy vs. sacrifice, and what that means for church today - What it looks like to extend mercy even to the people we judge... or just don't want at our table Plus, we tackle a bunch of big questions: - What makes someone open to mercy? - Is mercy optional for Christians? - Can churches be built on mercy instead of sacrifice? - Did tax collectors choose their path—and could they quit? We also answer a few fun mailbag questions, including: - What's your most-used emoji? - Where do you go in Scripture on hard days? - Favorite Between Sundays moment from 300 episodes! Jesus in the wilderness. Forty days. No bread. All temptation. What does this iconic story really mean—and what does it have to do with marshmallows, baptism, and political power? In this episode of Between Sundays, Tyler, Maron, and Barry dig into Matthew 4 and unpack the wilderness temptation of Jesus. We explore why Matthew draws heavy parallels between Jesus and the story of Israel, how spiritual warfare often follows spiritual affirmation, and why resisting temptation is less about gritting your teeth and more about trusting God, knowing Scripture, and living a life of worship. We also ask some tough questions: Did God lead Jesus into temptation? Was Satan actually questioning Jesus' identity? How do we know when Scripture is being twisted today? What does it really mean to worship in a world of distraction? And—are we supposed to imitate Jesus in temptation… or just depend on him? Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share if this episode challenged you to trust deeper, walk stronger, and follow Jesus when it's hard.
Why does Matthew kick off the story of Jesus with a long, dusty list of names? And why should you care? In this episode of Between Sundays, the gang digs into why genealogies are NOT boring — and why Matthew's opening chapter is actually a revolutionary declaration of God's faithfulness. We unpack: Why the Gospel of Matthew mattered so much that early Christians were willing to die for it. How Jesus' family tree ties Him directly to God's promises, even through generations of failure, scandal, and exile. Why the inclusion of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, and Bathsheba in the genealogy flips ancient expectations on their head. What this ancient list of names has to say to a modern Church facing division, doubt, and distraction. Who the modern-day "outcasts" would be if a new genealogy were written today. Plus: Tyler's great-great-grandpa Jeptha Troyer gets a shoutout Barry has a new piggie And we wrestle with why we often treat Scripture like a relic instead of the revolutionary manifesto it really is. Whether you love Bible deep dives or have always been tempted to skim Matthew 1, this episode will open your eyes to the power of God's promises and your place in His ongoing story. Pain is complicated, and healing can be a journey filled with tension. How do we support someone on their healing path without overstepping? How do we balance compassion and personal boundaries? Rev. Dr. Keys unpacks how David's kindness to Mephibosheth reminds us that we are in covenant with the Father of those who need healing—and that we are called to be healers even when it's difficult. In this episode, we discuss navigating Lodebar, the places we often avoid because they remind us of our own suffering. We explore the idea of being healers in community, without assuming we're the hero of someone's story. Healing requires a collective effort, divine intervention, and sometimes, just showing up with presence instead of solutions.
The gang's all here as we dive into the complex relationship between faith, pain, and the promises of Scripture.
