Bob was a California Kid when the Source Family and Manson Family were gaining momentum in the late 60's & early 70's Los Angeles scene. Both of these groups influenced the record industry at the time and Bob's brother in-law was the founder of Kama Sutra Records and Family Productions and was a mega music industry exec and prolific producer of the Bubblegum Pop era. This connection would place Bob in a number of epic Hollywood stories you're about to hear.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Raized Wrong is two young brothers, Landon and Lyric Goldberg, and their father Donny. They are a newly minted but third generation family band. Donny, along with his dad and brother head up a Beach Boys tribute band called Surf's Up. Having learned his trade well from his dad, Donny is passing it on to his sons, ages 12 and 13. Their tight vocal harmonies on classic hits have shot their TikTok following climbing quickly towards a million and Lyric and Landon are on a fast track to teen idol heights so we hooked them up with a man who's been there, Bob Cowsill of The Cowsills.Bob understands pop melodies and intricate harmonies and he is duly impressed with the tight sounds of this accomplished and talented family band. Together, they are talking about musical roots and inspirations, sibling harmonies, parents in the band, rehearsal and performance experiences and balancing childhood with show business. Plus, Lyric and Landon go to Teen Mag Nosy Question school with Bob who has answered his share of them. You will remember when you first knew that Raized Wrong is on its way to musical history.Path Points of Interest:Raized WrongRaized Wrong on TiktokRaized Wrong on YoutubeRaized Wrong on FacebookRaized Wrong Mama Facebook GroupRaized Wrong on InstagramRaized Wrong MerchRaized Wrong on PatreonRaized Wrong on The Cowsills PodcastThe Beach Boys - "Feel Flows" The Sunflower & Surfs Up Sessions 1969-1971The CowsillsThe Cowsills on FacebookThe Cowsills PodcastFamily Band: The Cowsills StoryFamily Band: Trailer

Calling the Queen of Bubblegum Pop a one hit wonder just feels wrong. To Carly Rae's cult following, it feels like she has released hit after hit over the years. A quick internet search of her Billboard chart success, however, reveals the shocking truth… “Call Me Maybe” is really her only mainstream hit. Regardless, here at One Hit Thunder, we know that an incredible and prolific career rarely has anything to do with charts, and Carly Rae Jepsen is no exception to that rule. This week, we're joined by author Erik Brown to completely fanboy out over one of pop's most likable artists. If you like the show, be sure to rate, review, and subscribe.

Two brand new, exclusive interviews this week with two of the most legendary songwriters of all time - both members of the Rock & Roll and Songwriters Halls Of Fame - Jeff Barry and Barry Mann. Both are synonymous with the iconic Brill Building era of the 1960's but their evergreen hits continued well into the decades of the 70's, 80's and beyond. The songs written by Jeff (with his then-wife Ellie Greenwich and others) and by Barry (with his wife Cynthia Weill and others) are still heard literally every day all over the world. Jeff tells us all about the iconic hits he wrote like “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “Be My Baby” and “River Deep Mountain High,” as well as his work with Phil Spector, Bert Berns and Norman Lear. Barry shares how he and Cynthia met, winning Grammy's Song of the Year in 1987 for “Somewhere Out There” and creating the most performed songs of the entire 20th century, “You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
This week, I decided to do a little something different and tackle the discography of one of the greatest bands of the 1960s. Tommy James & The Shondells dominated the latter half of the decade with 14 Top 40 hits (2 of which went to #1), pioneered a genre known as Bubblegum Pop, and had a very interesting history involving run-ins with the mob... via their record label!!! It's a shame that this band has never been considered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since their inception because their music has stood the test of time and have been covered by many artists for over 5 decades including Billy Idol, Tiffany, Dolly Parton, and even Green Day. Today, Tommy James, continues to tour in rock revival shows and hosts his own show every Sunday on Sirius XM. And their music lives on in the hearts of many. In what's expected to be a fun time for all, please tune in as I rank the discography of Tommy James & The Shondells! Ryan Roxie is one of the world's greatest guitarists and performed on stage with the best. Known as a solo artist and singer/songwriter he is also recognised for his guitar work and collaborations with Alice Cooper, Casablanca and Slash's Snakepit. He tells everyone he was inspired to play the guitar by Keith – not Richards but Partridge. And David Cassidy played a key role in his successful career. He started working with Alice in 1996 and collaborated with him on several albums including Dirty Diamonds, The Eyes of Alice Cooper and Dragontown. He rejoined the band in 2012. Roxie spent 2 years recording with Slash's Snakepit Ain't Life Grand, but admits “in reality, I always wanted to be Keith Partridge”. Roxie is a huge fan of British Glam Rock with Sweet, T Rex, Mott the Hoople among his favourite groups. He has given The Move's California Man and Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody the Roxie treatment. He hosts a weekly podcast, In The Trenches, and is the founder of the System-12 Guitar method. While Season 6 has come to a close, we are still hard at work in the background, getting ready for the launch of Season 7 on the 28th of September with a lovely teaser trailer to get you all excited. In the meantime, we thought we would bring back this episode we did with The Zulu Skywalker, aka, Muzi. A lot has happened since we first released this episode and while at the time we caught at the start of the release buildup for his new album “Interblaktic”, this Zulu Jedi has gone on to drop singles featuring the likes of Sho Madjozi and Kaytranada, and has firmly entrenched this cultural polymath as one of South Africa's freshest exports. So sit back, get yourself a beverage and get deep inside the mind of Muzi to prepare yourself for the drop of his new album on the 1st of October. With his heritage and family at the root of every creative move that he makes, he expertly blends together cutting edge urban and electronic music with local genres like Maskandi, Kwaito, and Bubblegum Pop of the 80s and 90s, to craft a sound that is entirely his own. Through embracing his early “weirdness” and turning it into an asset, despite common perceptions in rural Empangeni, Muzi is a philosophical shaman that draws inspiration from the past to cultivate an African-charged, sonic future. This week, Sid Vicious talks about the Sex Pistols splitting up and his inimitable cover of 'My Way' in clips from a previously unheard audio interview by John Tobler. RBP podcast host Mark Pringle is joined in Barney Hoskyns' absence by Jasper Murison-Bowie to listen to it and, predictably, talk about it. They contemplate Sid's sadness at the band coming to an end, as well as his endorsement of Nancy Spungen as his manager, who he thinks will take the music industry by storm. Moving on to the week's free feature, Bobbie Gentry, ahead of an upcoming reimagining of her album The Delta Sweete, they consider the meaning of 'Ode to Billy Joe' and Gentry's retirement from music after only three albums, with Mark wondering what else might have been if she hadn't. Next up are pieces by featured writer Andrew Bailey of Rolling Stone on British bluesman Alexis Korner, T. Rex's Marc Bolan and Guy Peellaert's Rock Dreams, before Mark and Jasper pick some of their highlights from the week's library load. Topics range from Cliff Bennett meeting Jerry Lee Lewis to Caroline Sullivan on the disappointing boybands of the 90s, via Cannonball Adderley on the intellectualisation of jazz, John Mendelssohn slagging off Led Zeppelin I and Van Morrison's Astral Weeks in one fell swoop, and much else besides. Finally, Mark and Jasper discuss Loyle Carner's approach to grime and London hip-hop, producer Mura Masa's difficulty at being a convincing performer and the despicable Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines. Produced by Jasper Murison-Bowie Pieces discussed: Sid Vicious, Bobbie Gentry, Ode to Billy Joe, Mercury Rev, Alexis Korner, Marc Bolan, Guy Peellaert's Rock Dreams, Cliff Bennett/Jerry Lee Lewis, Chet Helms and psychedelia, Peter Frampton, Mendo hates Led Zeppelin I, Mike Bloomfield, Caroline Sullivan on Bubblegum Pop, Cannonball Adderley, James Blunt, Loyle Carner, Mura Masa and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines

Legendary bubble gum pop singer-songwriter Tommy Roe joins Halli at her table on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show, Wednesday, November 30, 3 pm ET with stories of Dick Clark, The Beatles and more in a rock and roll of a conversation. With hits like Dizzy, Sheila, Sweet Pea, Everybody and Hooray for Hazel, Roe sometimes referred to as “The King of Bubble Gum Rock”, recorded six Top 10 hits between 1962 and 1969, more than any single artist/songwriter during that period of the sixties. Tommy has four Gold Records, and two of his hits, "SHEILA" and "DIZZY," topped the Billboard chart at #1. With a total of 11 records reaching the Billboard Top 40 and 23 Billboard Top 100 chart records, Tommy is one of the early pioneers of the American Pop music culture. Now out with a new biography with intros by record mogul Scott Borchetta, Wink Martindale and Republican Pollster, Frank Luntz, FROM CABBAGE TOWN TO TINSELTOWN AND PLACES INBETWEEN is raw, candid, funny, sad encyclopedia of music history. Adam Couper, Rebecca Riggs and Simon Palomares perform a song from the Haircut Challenge show that generated a few of the tracks in this series. (In this show - two teams, two team captains, losing team captain had his head shaved at the end of the show. Sadly, the day before the Haircut Challenge, one of the team captains scored a role in a movie. The scores were neck and neck entering the last game, and the non-movie-role-scoring team graciously threw the last game and submitted their captain for shaving.)Listen to Big Chief No Friends Powered by Podbean.comI seem to recall a style suggestion of "Bubblegum Pop". (That said, I can't remember what colour socks I have on right now, so my memory is anything but reliable.)The trio had a very strong start to define the style of the song. Again, this is one of those times when I think the song really benefitted from getting its start from everyone and not just the musician.Coup is once again in the drivers seat for this one. Adam has a tremendous talent for weaving together a coherent melody in a verse and chorus, pulling together a great story, and managing to rhyme. He's one of my favourite players to work with. (You should see him in a Shakespearean scene; he's unbelievable.)I'm accompaning on keyboard-drums and, eventually, bass. It took me a long time to come in for this one, I suspect I spent way more time hunting for the key than I should have.I wonder how fast Adam's mind really works. I'm intrigued by the turn of events right at the end of the song:Adam:Big Chief, he's got a friendMC (interjecting from offstage): 10 seconds!Adam:Which brings this story almost to an endWas that line in the plan? Or did he alter his rhyme and story at the last second?Adam and I found a nice ending for this song; I love it when the music just drops out in the last seconds of the song, leaving the singer to finish it with a great tag. I had a feeling Coup was going to find a marvelous ending, and he didn't disappoint.Download Big Chief No Friends (mp3)This is the sixth entry in a series of recordings of Songs and Operas from Brisbane's Lightning Doubles Theatresports from 1992/1993.
