TEX-TREK Mission 325: STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE's "Carbon Creek" Back-Trekking RetrospectiveThis week Joel joins Fatheree and Taylor as we continue our Back-Trekking Retrospective series and dive back into the past—both literally and figuratively—with an away mission to "Carbon Creek." Set in 1957 Pennsylvania, "Carbon Creek" offers a charming detour from typical Trek tales, exploring the crash-landing of a Vulcan survey team in small-town America. We'll unpack what makes this episode such a standout: the nostalgic setting, the quiet culture clash, and T'Pol's mysterious tale that may or may not be true. Grab your Velcro, hide your Vulcan ears, and join us for another fun discussion on TEX-TREK!As always, available in both video and audio-only formats.Watch on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgQoYG_kn3Y&ab_channel=Tex-TrekGet RSS feed:https://anchor.fm/s/f37edb0c/podcast/rssApple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tex-trek/id1495605753?uo=4Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/6mdZ030Klldxwn7SSc5PKp?si=3BOqsbQER9Ssfppqk7lofQ&fbclid=IwAR1M1uH_xBE1lYWcwQocoDzjoVSsLmCgBt08TCEYAltwIH3MPC0S60bMCsEJoin our Discord server:https://discord.gg/YXPeRyQh7ySupport us on Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/txtrekStar Trek: Enterprise, Season 2 Episode 2"Carbon Creek"Teleplay by Chris BlackStory by Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, and Dan O'ShannonDirected by James ContnerT'Pol tells Archer and Tucker a story about her great-grandmother and two other Vulcans, who crash landed in a small Pennsylvania town in the year 1957.http://www.facebook.com/textrekhttps://www.instagram.com/txtrek/http://twitter.com/TxTrekhttps://www.tiktok.com/@txtrekEmail: fathereeactual@tex-trek.com
We're watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 2 “Carbon Creek,” but only Maria has actually watched the episode. A GOOD STORY? That's not something Bryan and his trio of guest co-hosts expected from Star Trek: Enterprise here during Inner Lights month. Jamie, Bill, and Maria have their own show where they explain episodes of Enterprise to one another, and for "Carbon Creek," they're doing a bit of a swap with Trek Marry Kill -- look for Bryan to appear on their show in April. On this week's episode of our show, we set a course for the year 1957 and the exploits of a group of Vulcans who are stranded in the small mining town of Carbon Creek, Pennsylvania. This is the tale told by T'Pol at a dinner with Captain Archer and Trip Tucker. Is the story true? Join with us as we discuss. Join us as we go boldly!
Carbon Creek (Star Trek: Enterprise, S2 E2) was recommended by Bryan Love(Blackrain), who said: Being your resident LDS(Mormon) listener, family history or knowing about one's ancestors, their stories is something that is important to me. T'Pol tells a story of her grandmother to Archer and Trip. How it was her grandmother who crash landed on earth, that was the real first contact between humans and Vulcans in 1957. Re-watching this episode years later from its original airing from back in 2002. I now understand how the stories or history of one's family can be very important, even if their only important to you. Hearing about how my one grandfather chased down all the boys in his high school that made fun of his short height, and one by one lifted each of them over his head into a garbage car. Grandpa might of been small, but he was strong from working on the farm his whole life. Little family stories to give you pride about your family.Carbon Creek first aired on September 14, 1993, written by S : Rick Berman & Brannon Braga & Dan O'Shannon, T : Chris Black, and directed by James A. When Captain Archer and Commander Tucker ask T'Pol for a good dinner story, she tells them about the ancient Vulcans who crashed on Earth before first contact. But when her great-grandmother's rescue doesn't arrive for many months, one of the Vulcans learns to love the bomb while the others can't wait to get off Sputnik-era Earth. What are the two things you can gamble with? Who was the original hawk tuah? Which modern invention is part of the texture of our reality now? It's the episode that makes everyone feel like a lecherous creep.Support the production of The Greatest GenerationGet a thing at podshop.biz!Sign up for our mailing list!Follow The Game of Buttholes: The Will of the Riker - Quantum LeapThe Greatest Generation is produced by Wynde PriddySocial media is managed by Rob Adler and Bill TilleyMusic by Adam Ragusea & Dark MateriaFriends of DeSoto for: Labor | Democracy | JusticeDiscuss the show using the hashtag #GreatestGen and find us on social media:YouTube | Facebook | X | Instagram | TikTok | Mastodon | Bluesky | ThreadsAnd check out these online communities run by FODs: Reddit | USS Hood Discord | Facebook group | Wikia | FriendsOfDeSoto.social
A Vulcan expedition lands in 1950s America, finding themelves stuck in a demension somehewere between The Coneheads and October Sky. At its core, this epsiode is an immigrant story, with one of the characters eventually realzing how great this country is. So I just got to say one thing...God, bless America. In this episode of Enterprise, a Vulcan named Mestral who is wearing a beanie plays a game of pool in a bar on Earth in 1957. Mestral breaks, but initially pots no balls. His human opponent sinks a couple in quick succession, leaving Mestral at a strategic disadvantage. However, Mestral recovers rapidly as the table clears, allowing him multiple clear shots. After equalising his position, he finally calls that he will pot the 8-ball in the corner pocket and does so, winning the game. Then a bunch of other stuff happens.
This week Archer's inability to leave well enough alone drives one plot and is actually pretty integral to solving another. First up: Archer's done some rooting so T'Pol tells an old family tale of cultural contamination in "Carbon Creek". After that: an accident in space has Reed doing his usual "sacrifice me for the good of the ship" schtick and Archer needles him to keep his mind off it in "Minefield". Also this week: canon quibbles, a solid start, and Deanna Troi! [stampin': Creek: 02:47; Minefield: 35:16; Troi: 1:09:34] [therapist's notes: https://www.tumblr.com/sshbpodcast/737255287133732864/character-spotlight-deanna-troi?source=share]

She has named several new species of ankylosaurs, studied how they used and evolved their charismatic armour and weaponry, and investigated how their biogeography was shaped by dispersals between Asia and North America. British Columbia has a rich fossil record spanning over 500 million years of the history of life on Earth. Victoria's research at the Royal BC Museum will investigate how the ancient plants and animals that lived here responded to changing climates, shifting continents, and mass extinctions. The Carbon Creek Basin site is located just west of Hudson's Hope in the Peace River area and boasts nearly 1,200 dinosaur tracks from at least 12 different types of dinosaurs—including two dinosaur track types that have not been observed at any other site in the Peace Region

Michael Krawic appeared three times in the franchise. His first appearance was in the DS9 episode "The Maquis, Part 1" as William Patrick Samuels, a member of this terrorist group who ultimately lost his life in a Cardassian prison cell. He followed that up as a Catian alien in the VOY episode "Day of Honor" under heavy makeup. Lastly, his most memorable role was in the second season "Enterprise" episode "Carbon Creek" as one of the stranded Vulcans, Stron. Now living primarily in Thailand, Krawic regales us with behind-the-scenes stories from these episodes, including what it was like working with Jolene Blalock and J. Paul Boehmer as Vulcans, wearing Catian makeup, and being part of the Maquis' DS9 debut. Plus, Chuck Norris stories from the set of "Walker, Texas Ranger," working with Angela Lansbury in "Murder, She Wrote," his wacky role in "In Living Color," and more! J. Paul Boehmer takes a trip Around "Carbon Creek" and Inside the Borg Cube J. Paul Boehmer has six Star Trek TV credits to his name, two in the video game world, and a long list of other credits in Theater, TV, and film. You may remember J. Paul as a Nazi officer in the two-part "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "The Killing Game" and another one in the Enterprise episode "Storm Front," the Borg named One from "the VOY episode "Drone," the Cardassian officer named Vornar from DS9 "Tacking Into The Wind," and the Vulcan who found a new home named Mestral from the classic ENT episode "Carbon Creek." He also did voices in the Bridge Commander game and played Gowron's brother in "Klingon Academy" on PC. In this honest, informative, and emotional interview, J. Paul told us stories from his theater days and how one show led to his first Star Trek role as the Nazi from VOY, playing another Nazi years later in Enterprise while performing with Scott Bakula (and why one Naiz had a German accent and the other didn't). J. Paul also fondly recalled the heartwarming story about his Vulcan ears from ENT, the intense makeup to play this brand new style of Borg in "Drone" and the hardships of wearing that much prosthetics and neoprene, how playing a Borg helped him become a better Vulcan, meeting Christopher Plummer while working on the game, and much more! We also have some Star Trek adjacent talks about being in "The Orville" with three other heavily made-up aliens and working with Seth McFarlane and Adrian Palecki, Plus, performing a play that literally combined "Hamlet" with "Death of A Salesman" called "Haplet," acting side by side with Kelsey Grammer in "Frasier," "The Thomas Crowne Affair," and more! Ever wonder how velcro was invented? By a couple of Vulcans in Pennsylvania. For this Trekkin' into the New Year, we're starting off with episode two of season two of Enterprise, Carbon Creek. Also starting off the month is Ruk's newest solo project, Why You Should, in which he convinces the Rage why he needs to watch Jujutsu Kaisen. If you need a convincin' check it out on Spotify.
We head back into the time to the days of Sputnik, I Love Lucy, and...secret first contact between T'Pol's great, great grandma and the world's nicest coal mining town in "Carbon Creek". We get an out-of-place, late season filler episode that isn't terrible, and also features the most blatant sexual exploitation to date! Truly this one has everything!

“Carbon Creek” 20th-anniversary reflections To mark the one-year anniversary of T'Pol's official commission as a member of the Enterprise crew, Captain Archer invites her to dinner, along with Trip. It is a special occasion indeed as the previous record for a Vulcan serving with a human crew was a mere 10 days. When Archer asks her about a trip she once made to a small mining town called Carbon Creek, she agrees to tell them a story. She recounts the experiences of her second foremother, T'Mir, after the Vulcan survey mission of which she was a part crash landed in Pennsylvania. It's a tale of Velcro, higher education, and I Love Lucy; but did it really happen? In this episode of Warp Five, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our 20th-anniversary retrospective that takes you through all of Star Trek: Enterprise, one episode at a time. In this installment, we continue Season 2 with “Carbon Creek” as we explore the rewriting of history, diversity in Vulcan views of humans, how the writers turned a grab bag of Star Trek's greatest time travel hits into a delightful chance to decompress after the chaos of "Shockwave," and the franchise's tribute to Lucille Ball. Trek Talking jumps back in time to September 25, 2002, as we take a closer look at the second episode of the season of Star Trek: Enterprise, "Carbon Creek". Star Trek Enterprise is often looked down upon as not worth watching, but that's not entirely true. Enterprise does have some hidden gems, and Carbon Creek is one of them. Jolene Blalock (T'Pol) play her own great-grandmother (T'Mir) and tells the story of the real first contact between Humans and Vulcans. Let's see what's out there.

T'Pol regales Captain Archer and Trip with a colorful tale about her great-grandmother's adventures in Pennsylvania coal country. Join your Velcro-obsessed hosts as they discuss the diversity of Vulcan personalities in Star Trek: Enterprise, the thematic resonance of human compassion and potential, and the utterly ridiculous inclusion of T'Pol's nipples. Spoiler warning! We dive right into a detail-rich discussion of this episode, so if you haven't had a chance to see it yet – beware! Next week: Kirk and Company get mixed up with a very 20th-century style fellow named Gary Seven! Note that this and all episodes of the It's Got Star Trek podcast contain explicit language and, frankly, an unnecessary amount of offensive content, so the show is intended only for adults and really really cool kids. T'Pol tells Archer and Tucker a story about her great-grandmother and two other Vulcans, who crash landed in a small Pennsylvania town in the year 1957. In this episode of the podcast, Wes and Clay debate the how much Carbon Creek is to Enterprise as The City on the Edge of Forever is to The Original Series. Plus! The guys talk about Vulcans in disguise, inventions you'd believe to be alien in origin, and the acting prowess of Jolene Blalock! Are you looking for older episodes? Essential Enterprise Season 2. In every season of every Star Trek show, there are some episodes that stand out more than others — but which ones are essential to their respective shows as a whole? We continue our four-part series where we look at each episode of each season and determine if they are essential to the overall narrative of the show. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Brandi Jackola, Brandon-Shea Mutala, and Patrick Devlin analyze the second season of Enterprise and select the absolutely essential episodes that they feel you must watch. Enterprise Season 2 - Essential Trek Philosophy. Season 2 of Enterprise contained numerous fun and interesting and science-fiction concepts and ideas, as the crew of the NX-01 encountered novelty and adventure going where no humans had ever gone before. But this season also explored a number of important philosophical and ethical issues, from the Kantian principle of not using other sentient beings as a means to your own ends in "Dead Stop" to the politics of gender and sexual identity in "Stigma." In this episode of Meta Treks, hosts Mike Morrison and Zachary Fruhling recount their choices for Essential Trek Philosophy from season 2 of Enterprise, along with proverbial life lessons learned from this season, such as the importance of getting down in the trenches with people who are struggling, standing up to bullies, and going the extra mile (or the extra light year) to rebuild damaged relationships. "Carbon Creek" Commentary with Dayton Ward. *there are some intermittent audio issues with B-Shea's file that start at 48:11 and last for about 6 minutes. Many episodes of each of the Star Trek series have spawned sequels and story continuations in the form of books and comics. While some are direct sequels to the episodes, some simply take characters or ideas and extrapolate further adventures for our crews. One of the most prolific Star Trek authors currently at work is Dayton Ward, having written or co-written more than 35 books and short stories in the Star Trek universe. In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Floyd Dorsey and Brandon-Shea Mutala are joined by Dayton Ward to provide an audio commentary for the Enterprise second season episode "Carbon Creek," which introduced us to the character of Mestral, who would become important in three of Ward's novels. Enterprise Season Two, Part One. When most fans name their favorite year of Enterprise, seasons one, three, or four often tops the list. However, season two delivers excellent episodes that address continuity and topics that stretch across all of the Star Trek series. So, why is the NX-01's sophomore outing so often overlooked? In this episode of Warp Five, hosts Floyd Dorsey and Jeffrey Harlan are joined by Continuing Mission host Dennis Castello to analyze the topics and situations that really stand out in the first half of season two. We kick off the second season of Enterprise by figuring out how they wrapped up that cliffhanger in "Shockwave, Part II" (spoiler: at least it's better than "Time's Arrow II"!), then watch an odd flashback story in "Carbon Creek" and J. marks out for the Romulans in "Minefield." Then, we discuss a very famous Mad Men episode, in which a "Guy Walks into an Advertising Agency," and he does not walk out. He'll never golf again!

In this week’s episode marc & Paul Drinkwater review Carbon Creek from the second season of Star Trek: Enterprise
Carbon Creek. Everyone knows that first contact occurred in Montana on April 5, 2063. Or at least that's what the history books tell us. But is it really true? Enterprise kicked off its sophomore season by ruffling the feathers of many canon purists with the story of an earlier first contact between humans and Vulcans. In this story, which T'Pol tells Archer and Trip over dinner, the first encounter between these two founding races of the Federation took place in 1947, in Pennsylvania. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Michael Fisher as we discuss the episode “Carbon Creek,” its place in canon, and how it is an excellent example of Star Trek's exploration of social issues. In news we cover new fine art prints from Bye Bye Robot, new Star Trek goods for your kitchen, Intrada's extended Star Trek VI soundtrack release, STO's “The 2800,” John Tenuto's March events celebrating Ricardo Montalban and Khan, and some mysterious happenings in London.
