Christie Buchele is one of Denver's hardest working comedians, but her new one-woman show, “Lost & Found,” isn't about the jokes. Christie is currently undergoing psychedelic-assisted therapy, a revolutionary approach to healing trauma. It features intense talk therapy sessions while under the supervised use of MDMA (aka ecstasy). After Colorado voters decriminalized psychedelics last year, Christie stepped into this new world of treatment and it inspired her to write and create a performance about what she's learned about herself, her disability, and her experience in the world. Host Bree Davies talks to Christie about how her experience with psychedelics has changed her approach to art and her advice to people curious about psychedelics.  You can see Christie perform Lost & Found tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Buntport Theater. Tickets are $15. Don't worry if you can't make it! She'll be performing it again at the Denver Fringe Festival in June.  Follow Christie Buchele on Instagram for more info on her upcoming shows and workshops. Learn more about psychedelics-assisted therapy through the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). Christie also mentioned this study on the impacts of MDMA therapy for individuals with PTSD. In our last episode with Christie Buchele, we learned the mechanics of comedy and received a crash course in how to construct a joke. We're going to continue to celebrate Humor Appreciation Month with our next guest, Maria Ross, marketing maven. Our focus today is not so much on how to be funny, but how to appreciate the humorous aspects of what's going on in your life right now, no matter what is going on in your life right now. In this episode, Heather and Maria discuss:* Does humor in advertising really work?* Importance of understanding the humor of your ideal audience* How humor can be the secret weapon* What is Humor in the workplace?* Importance of using authentic humorThis is the third time that Maria has appeared on the Lead with Levity podcast. If you like this episode, you'll love the others too:Episode 24: Why employees need storytelling and marketing tooEpisode 61: Will customers still like you?About The GuestHello! I'm Maria Ross, the founder of RED SLICE.As a brand strategist, author, speaker, podcast host, and actress (when I have time!) I believe cash flow, creativity, and compassion are not mutually exclusive. My infatuation with the power of storytelling started young. From dominating my kindergarten classroom to delighting theatre patrons to directing brand strategies, I've been entertaining and educating audiences from the moment I could walk.I've authored multiple books, including my most recent, The Empathy Edge (named by Forbes as a Top 11 book redefining leadership) and I'm host of The Empathy Edge podcast.See, empathy is at the root of all successful brands, movements, and stories. It's a key competitive advantage. And I understand the power of empathy on both the brand and personal levels: In 2008, shortly after launching my business, I suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm that almost killed me and inspired my best-selling memoir, Rebooting My Brain. It tells the story of my brain aneurysm and near-miraculous recovery—with tongue-in-cheek humor and levity (yes, really). As a brand and empathy expert, my insights have been featured in many media outlets such as MSNBC, NPR, Entrepreneur, and Forbes.com – and a slew of podcasts and video shows. As a keynote and workshop speaker, I've delighted live and virtual audiences ranging from TEDx to Women in Tech Regatta to BlogHer to The New York Times to Salesforce – and livened up many conferences and company events. My writing has appeared in media such as Entrepreneur.com, Newsweek, MarketingProfs, Life By Me, and The Huffington Post. I'm based in the San Francisco area with my husband, young son and the memory of my first Chief Morale officer, Eddie the Wonder Dog, but I work with clients all over the world. Right? Today's guest is Christie Buchele, a comedy instructor who has agreed to teach us how we can be at least 10% funnier.  Key Takeaways in this Episode:The moment when Christie figured out that she is funny How to get started writing comedyHow to be a comedian - baby steps you need to knowReveal the two sides of comedyWhat are the purposes of comedy?Reveal the formula to become a successful comedianWhat to do when things don't go well on stageLearning is success especially when you're the leaderThe use of Humor in the workplaceAbout the GuestChristie Buchele is a Denver-based comedian who "fell" into comedy in 2010 when she went to see a cute guy do an open mic and thought to herself "I can do better." She was right. Despite being raised by her single father named Todd, Christie made a name for herself by joking about the heart-wrenching and hilarious realities of being a woman with a disability. Christie is a strong stand-up with weak legs and her comedy aims to make the audience think about how they perceive people with disabilities while making them hurt from laughter. Christie reps the Mile High City hard while crushing audiences with a wry, biting style that's a bit sweet, and a little bit surly; proving time and again that you can say almost anything with a smile on your face and a gimp in your step.http://www.kpcomedy.com/christie-buchele.htmlhttp://facebook.com/Kirkland-Productions-123725907663590/http://twitter.com/kirklandprodBOOKING@KPCOMEDY.COMSupport the show (https://paypal.me/leadwithlevity)

Our story today comes from Denver comedian and dear friend of The Narrators, Christie Buchele. Christie told this story at our 8th anniversary show back in March, with a little help from fellow comedian and friend of the show Talitha K. Each story that night was accompanied by sound painting, a.k.a. live improvised music from our pals at Playground Ensemble. The whole evening was an interesting experiment, full of bumps and surprises and supremely real moments. The story you'll hear today was one of our favorites of the night. Christie's story was told live on 21 March 2018 at Buntport Theater in Denver, Colorado. The theme of the evening was “Keeping Up.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Hey y'all, it's episode 6 of One on Lund! Host Nathan Lund is back from the Orlando Indie Comedy Festival, and boy was it a fun time. Big big thanks to Dave Plotkin, Heather Shaw, Doug McPherson, Tim Murphy, and everyone else involved with making the festival such a great experience. Nathan talks about a dude at the Travelodge pool who had an unfortunate run-in with fire ants, and another dude on his flight home who wasn't too happy to see Nathan as his seat neighbor. He also saw a raccoon!  Nathan also talks about the successful maiden voyage of the new comedy debate show at Oskar Blues Black Buzzard called Sticks and Stones! Hosted by Christie Buchele, the show pits comedians against one another as they debate topics like Manic vs Depressed and Boyz II Men vs Spice Girls. For the first show, Nathan argued on the side of Bad News against Aaron Urist and Fake News. After sharing several examples of increasingly bad news, Nathan ended the night with some great news: he won the debate! Sticks and Stones continues the tradition of a long-running Denver institution: Arguments & Grievances. Hosted by Kevin O'Brien at the Vine St. Pub for six years, A&G was one of the best and most funnest shows in town. It will make its return to the Mile High City on April 13th at the Oriental Theater and will feature many of the talented comics responsible for its success, including Chris Charpentier, Mara Wiles, Jordan Doll, and Sam Tallent. Don't miss it!   One on Lund is a painfully personal podcast featuring Denver Comedy Champion Nathan Lund. Hello there stranger! Thanks for listening to episode 4 of One on Lund. In this week's installment, Nathan "One on Lund" Lund talks about some of his favorite shows to do in and around Denver, including a very unique gig at the Park Hill Library and the super fun Mile High Movie Roast! Originally known as Mile High Sci Fi, hosts Harrison Rains and Matt Vogl made fun of bad science fiction flops for years at several movie theaters around Denver. One of Nathan's first goals after moving to Colorado was to be a part of it, and it continues to be one of the best shows in town now that Harrison works with a rotating cast of Denver's best movie roasters. Harrison and Nathan most recently blasted Billy Zane in "The Phantom" at both Alamo Drafthouse locations (Sloan's Lake and Littleton). Next month catch Christie Buchele and Zach Reinert when they roast "Indecent Proposal" March 9th and 16th! Nathan is real excited to be a part of the Orlando Indie Comedy Festival March 1-4th! It is a very popular fest and will feature headliners Rhea Butcher, Janelle James, and the one and only Sam Tallent! More info at www.orlandoindiecomedy.com In a possibly weird and unexpected change of pace, Nathan attempts to get serious and share some of his feelings in the wake of the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida.    One on Lund is a painfully personal podcast featuring Denver Comedy Champion Nathan Lund.
