Sacred Window Podcast: Nurturing Awareness in Postpartum Care
Today on the Sacred Window podcast we talk about sustainability and minimal living in the postpartum period. Our guest, Amanda, is an artist and mother who gave birth just over a year ago for the first time. She has used both cloth diapers and elimination communication to reduce plastic diaper waste for the planet. In the West in the past 100 years, plastic diapers have become the norm, but she points out that cultures around the world utilize different forms of elimination communication and cloth diapers have been the norm for generations. She spoke about how easy and accessible these methods are to use to quell fears and apprehensions. Some links she has personally used for information on elimination communication and cloth diapers: https://godiaperfree.com/ Book: Go Diaper Free: A Simple Handbook for Elimination Communication by Andrea Olson ecpeesy.com for elimination communication tips and lists of supplies needed https://www.mamanatural.com/cloth-diapering/ for all you need to know about cloth diapers
Hey, Green Junkie! If I say “Cloth Diapers” what reaction do you have? (Don't worry, all reactions are accepted here)
2 years ago, I launched the No Higher Calling blog with the post, Cloth Diapering 101. At that time, I had cloth diapered 2 babies, and so many mamas were reaching out with questions! Here we are several years later, and it is still a topic that I get asked about so often! Whether your motivation is to save money, to have a natural option for baby, or to take better care of the earth, cloth diapering can be a wonderful option! It sounds daunting. Who wants to deal with the mess and how do you begin to know how to get started? I have taken many of my notes from the blog post and shared them on this podcast episode. If this is something you've wondered about, I hope you find many helpful answers! Resources: NHC Blog: Cloth Diapering 101 Follow my journey by subscribing to this podcast. It's baby season! I'm just kidding, babies are always being born, but today we're talking about raising eco-conscious children. I'm not a mom yet, although I've been trying to be for a few years now, but that's a topic for another day. But when I am a mom, I know that I want to be as eco-friendly as possible. I'm talking mainly second-hand clothes (cuz who wants to spend top dollar for something they'll wear for 3 months?), minimal plastic toys, and cloth diapering. There's somewhat of a debate within the environmentalist community about if having children is a good decision when the planet is not in the best condition. Some people don't think we should be adding more human life that will use resources from Mother Earth. I understand that argument, but having and raising children is a special part of life. While we all have an impact on this planet just by being alive, we can make better choices about how we live and raise our kids to be eco-conscious so that they have less of an impact. Today's featured sustainable brown girl is Lacie Wever, an environmental educator and the creator of the Teach Go Green blog. As a wife and mom of two, Lacie is passionate about educating parents to make eco-friendly choices for their families. We talk about: - How Lacie's sustainable journey began - What it means to be an eco-parent - Cloth diapering - Ways to be more eco-friendly with kids Check out Lacie's Blog, Teach Go Green: https://teachgogreen.com/ Follow Teach Go Green on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teachgogreen/ Get Lacie's cloth diapering guide on the Teach Go Green website! Maybe you are past the diapering stage of life, but I wish I would have had something like this nine years ago when we started having our babies! Today I want to share a simple view on what our cloth diapering journey has looked like and what I would do differently if we were starting all over again. As in all things, I think we tend to overcomplicate the basics. So come with me today as we de-complicate! Also make sure to check out Greenmountaindiapers.com! If you are past this part of life, make sure to pass it along to someone who is in the trenches.
my transparent overview on cloth diapering, how much I've spent, why we love them, what sucks about them, and the type of cloth diapers I prefer.
6 years ago, when I started cloth diapering, I started with a stash of prefold diapers, size 1 covers, and a few microfibre all in one's from the popular brand (at the time). The first few months I stumbled through wash routines and leaks trying to figure out how to cloth diaper and how to transition into motherhood. It was a messy time. Today, I'm a Cloth Diaper author, podcaster and consultant. During these past six years since having my babies and cloth diapering, I'm still finding new ways to help guide parents through the information and feel supported and empowered in their decisions. https://www.simplymombailey.com/6-years-later-what-i-wish-i-knew-in-my-first-year-of-cloth-diapering/ Join the membership: https://www.clothdiaperpodcast.com/membership/

Did you know 37 BILLION diapers are thrown away each year? It's a number that feels too big to compute. Today, we welcome Liz Turriginao, mama and co-founder of Diaperkind and Esembly, to help us parent more sustainably. Although Mother Nature seems like the obvious reason for switching to Esembly (see previous gigantic statistic), it's not the only reason. As Liz explains in this episode, their bespoke system and innovative design is made of natural organic materials for your baby, saves you time (big win), and also reduces the chance of diaper blowouts. For 15% off your Esembly order, use code THEFULLEST at checkout.
Danielle shares her story of cloth diapering on the Cloth Diaper Podcast. This mom of two also gave us an insight into the how and why she got started leading cloth diaper classes in her local community. We also chatted about how she used reusable period products in her post partum period, and a few other conversations. Show 75 of the Cloth Diaper Podcast This episode is a casual conversation that goes in a few different directions. Sometimes that's how motherhood and cloth diapering can go. Today's episode will wrap up the end of season 2 of the Finding Your Village podcast. I am taking a vacation from the show as I prepare to launch by birth classes on July 7th! Season 3 of the podcast starts on July 18th! In today's episode we are talking all about cloth diapers! I had the pleasure of talking to Gigi Vera Vincent, who is a postpartum doula, mother to three toddlers, including twins, and a wife to her high school sweetheart. As a former teacher, her love languages are planning and handouts; she brings realistic, evidence-based, and actionable advice. She founded A Simple Home to help parents find their way to raise babies, so they can thrive in the fourth trimester and beyond.Cloth Diapering 101:Pushbacks: 1. Partner / Caregiver / Daycare doesn't want toFind what will convince them Make a routine and give directionWalk the walk Let them do it their way, even if it means disposables. 2. GrossThey aren't much better or worse than disposables.Solids in disposables should be placed in the toilet as well. Use a diaper sprayer and save clean up for once or twice a day.Benefits:1. Save moneyCloth diapers are around $500 and can be resold or used for multiple children. 2. Help the EnvironmentOver 20 billion diapers are thrown away in the US every year. With cloth diapers, you'll save disposables from entering landfills, sewers, and waterways.3. Improve your baby's healthDisposable diapers have harmful chemicals like bleach, dioxins, phthalates, and fragrances. If your baby has sensitive skin, natural fibers in cloth diapers are much better. 4. Are more practical You'll never run out. You'll have fewer blowouts. You won't need to deal with size changes. Types:1. Diaper + Cover This diaper has two parts: an absorbent diaper and a waterproof cover. They're called flats, prefolds, and fitteds. These are great for people who want a small, minimal, easy-to-wash diaper. 2. Diaper + InsertThis diaper has two parts as well: a waterproof cover with fabric inside and an insert that absorbs liquid. They're called pockets, all-in-twos, and hybrids. These are best for people who want to customize their diaper. 3. Complete SystemThis is one piece with the cover and absorbency all sewn together. They're called all-in-ones. These are a good choice for someone who has others caring for their baby or wants a diaper most similar to disposable.Freebie: Step-by-Step Cloth Diaper RoutineHow to get in touch with GigiFollow her on InstagramWebsiteHow to get in touch with me: Birth Class!Follow me on InstagramFind other episodes at: www.findingyourvillagepod.comEmail me at amanda@findingyourvillagepod.com Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/findingyourvillagepod?fan_landing=true)
And in the midst of that conversation, somehow we brought up cloth diapering and how she's a pretty lazy parent and has somehow conquered and really become successful with cloth diapering. Pam reached out to share her story about using flat diapers on the Cloth Diaper Podcast, but this episode is more about the important work she does as a cloth diaper influencer and community leader in the Philippines. Pam's experience and background in social work really shapes her passion and we talk about how to support parents, how to support businesses, and some of the bigger government work that needs to be done. The international cloth diaper community is a fantastic space to support and we have so many of the same goals. I hope that we all learn and feel inspired this year about how we can create inclusive content and maybe dream bigger and think about the social policies we need to better support cloth diapering, families, and the reusable industry. When it comes to diapers, most parents are looking for the easiest option out there. That's part of why disposables are so popular! But, if you tuned in last week, you know that when you choose disposables you might be sacrificing a lot of things that you're not okay with. So, how can we make cloth diapering a little easier? That's what Bailey and I are here to do today! In Part 2, Bailey is tackling the “how-to's” of cloth diapers and answering all the questions you might have. To view the full show notes, continue reading here or visit my website: http://www.heartfelthippie.com (www.heartfelthippie.com) What type of diaper is best for me? How many different types are there?! Where is the best place to buy cloth diapers? And how in the world do I clean these things? These are just a few of the common questions that any cloth diapering mama might have. Well, Bailey and I giving you the straight poop on how cloth diapers actually work. We're talking about how you can make sure your diapers are truly getting clean and providing plenty of other resources to give you some support on this parenting and diapering journey, both for the stay-at-home parents and the working ones! One of my biggest takeaways from what Bailey shared was the encouragement that we don't have to do things perfectly to make a difference. Even if we still use the occasional disposable diaper, or if we're only using cloth diapers on the weekends, our choices as consumers and as caretakers still hold a lot of impact. May that knowledge empower you, and don't forget that you have two people here for you in this journey right here! How To Use Cloth Diapers Cloth diapers have a reputation as the time-consuming and stressful way to diaper a baby. Yet parents who proudly embrace reusables report that the opposite is true: after you learn how to successfully use cloth diapers, the practice provides daily opportunities to connect with your child. Cloth diapering ushers in a unique joy, too. On today’s show I speak with Gaëlle Wizenberg, founder and Chief of Commerce of Charlie Banana. First, Gaëlle debunks 3... With being around your home a bit more these days, we are inevitably creating more waste at home, but there are some things you can do to reduce the waste that goes to the landfill. Today I share with you what my family does to live more eco-friendly and reduce the amount of waste we are putting back into the environment. Your environmental or ecological footprint is a measure of how much you are impacting the environment based on how many resources you use or take from the environment and the amount of non-renewable waste you are putting back into the environment. So by consciously making choices that reduce or eliminate some of this non-renewable waste, you are giving back to the environment to preserve the one planet we have and its resources. The start of April brings with it the anticipation of Earth Day towards the end of the month and encourages us to begin to shift our focus toward our own environmental impact and new growth. There’s a few simple steps you can take in your own home to create less waste and give back to the planet.
