Canadian Super Star entrepreneur, Sleep Country Canada Co-Founder Gordon Lownds entered the literary world with a bang. with his new memoir, “Cracking Up” - from rising star to junkie despair in 1,000 days available now wherever books are sold. At forty-eight Lownds was at the peak of his career, starting up what would become the billion-dollar enterprise, Sleep Country Canada.  Lownds began Sleep Country's journey with his friend and business partner Stephen Gunn and Christine McGee.  Life was good, better than good, what could go wrong.  Everything.  An ill-fated experimental use of crack cocaine in the seedy depths of Vancouver's Downtown Lower East Side quickly morphed into a raging, hardcore, shooting-up junkie experience.  How far does Lownds fall?   All the way and it isn't pretty.  Slinking through murky alleys in the infamous downtown lower east side of Vancouver, forced to endure the raunchy underworld, featuring drug dealers, hookers, bikers, blackmail, and death threats, OD's and drug busts, looking for his next fix– all while coping with a psychotic girlfriend.  So, yes this is a cautionary tale.  Addiction can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere, anyhow. “There are no guarantees that we will ever come back from our bottoms alive.”  His adventures in rehab took Lownds on another type of revealing carnival ride.  Navigating an afterlife in the confounding recovery community produced its own unique challenges, exacerbated by suddenly becoming a multi-millionaire.…  Lownds keeps his demons at bay and life's journey continues.  “Cracking Up” is a shake your head, hold your breath roller coaster ride.  A full-blown, down-and-dirty, soul-destructing, and death-defying series of events that occurred in just 1,000 days, followed by a penitential pilgrimage that took years. The plaintiff says her uncle died, and the defendant — his supposed dear friend — stole all his belongings. She never gave him permission, so she's suing for the value of the items. The defendant says he helped clean out the condo and only took a few small items with sentimental value.  Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is his sister. He claims he bought a car from her, but it's a giant lemon and she won't take it back. He's suing for a refund. The defendant says her brother drove the car and worked just fine, and she had to go to the cops because the plaintiff and his wife were harassing her.   Plus, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant and soon found it was unsuitable for her and her son because the neighbors were partying pot smokers and mail thieves. The plaintiff was let out of her lease, but the defendant kept some of the deposit, so she's suing. The defendant says she has every right to withhold the money because the plaintiff broke the lease. The plaintiff's neighbor hired the defendant's company to trim his trees, and the plaintiff claims the company illegally parked their heavy truck on the plaintiff's driveway without his permission. The plaintiff alleges the defendant damaged his property, and he's suing for the repairs. The defendant, a tree-trimming professional of over 40 years, insists he's not responsible for the damages.  Then, the plaintiff was driving on Halloween night when he claims the impatient defendant tried to pass him and sideswiped his car. The plaintiff is suing the defendant for the damages. The defendant alleges the plaintiff was the one who cut her off, and she believes he was intoxicated.  The plaintiff purchased a food truck from the defendant, but he says when he went to pick it up, the defendant wouldn't turn it over to him. First, the defendant said he needed to fix the radiator and the brakes. Then, the defendant said the transmission needed repair. Every week it was something else, so the plaintiff requested a refund, but the defendant refused, so the plaintiff is suing.
