Silicon Bites Ep333 | 2026-05-07 | Z-patriots are losing their minds, telling Russia that 1917 is coming again. But history does not repeat in such convenient ways – but it may well rhyme. Moscow and St Petersburg cut off again from mobile internet, forty regions blacked out, and the pro-war cheerleaders crack. It is the morning of 5 May 2026. A woman in Moscow wakes up, picks up her phone, and stares at the screen. No notifications. No SMS. No app pings. Nothing. She opens the camera and starts filming herself, in the kitchen, in real time, narrating the moment her capital city has been disconnected from the world.----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/scaling-up-campaign-to-fight-authoritarian-disinformation----------SILICON CURTAIN LIVE EVENTS - FUNDRAISER CAMPAIGN Events in 2025 - Advocacy for a Ukrainian victory with Silicon Curtainhttps://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extrasOur events of the first half of the year in Lviv, Kyiv and Odesa were a huge success. I went in, and she was sitting there in a motel room with a kilo of cocaine on the bed and two bikers helping her break it down into smaller bags. That was the insanity I was living in. Gordon Lownds has lived multiple lives. He grew up in Toronto and clashed with his father and an older brother who bullied him until he finally fought back at sixteen. That was the moment he said, enough. He left home, hustled at carnivals, and learned some of the sharpest business lessons you will ever hear. He packed in a philosophy degree, then an MBA, and turned out to be a brilliant business mind. By his forties, he had co-founded Sleep Country Canada with Stephen Gunn and Christine Magee, and later Listen Up Canada. These companies reshaped how Canadians sleep and how they hear. At the height of his success, on his forty-eighth birthday in 1998, Gordon tried crack cocaine for the first time. It was day one of a thousand-day descent into hell that nearly destroyed everything he loved and all he had built and cost him over a million dollars in drugs. What happened after is a rare and remarkable story of recovery, resilience, reinvention and redemption. Executive Director of the African American Policy Forum, Crenshaw is celebrating the organization's 30th anniversary and joining Laura Flanders in this episode to discuss the challenges ahead. Sleep Country Canada and Listen Up Canada co-founder Gordon Lownds spoke with People First Radio about his experiences with cocaine addiction, which he’s documented in a new memoir called Cracking Up. According to his memoir, while he was in the work associated with the startup phase of Sleep Country, Lownds ended up in a relationship […]
Canadian Super Star entrepreneur, Sleep Country Canada Co-Founder Gordon Lownds entered the literary world with a bang. with his new memoir, “Cracking Up” - from rising star to junkie despair in 1,000 days available now wherever books are sold. At forty-eight Lownds was at the peak of his career, starting up what would become the billion-dollar enterprise, Sleep Country Canada. Lownds began Sleep Country's journey with his friend and business partner Stephen Gunn and Christine McGee. Life was good, better than good, what could go wrong. Everything. An ill-fated experimental use of crack cocaine in the seedy depths of Vancouver's Downtown Lower East Side quickly morphed into a raging, hardcore, shooting-up junkie experience. How far does Lownds fall? All the way and it isn't pretty. Slinking through murky alleys in the infamous downtown lower east side of Vancouver, forced to endure the raunchy underworld, featuring drug dealers, hookers, bikers, blackmail, and death threats, OD's and drug busts, looking for his next fix– all while coping with a psychotic girlfriend. So, yes this is a cautionary tale. Addiction can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere, anyhow. “There are no guarantees that we will ever come back from our bottoms alive.” His adventures in rehab took Lownds on another type of revealing carnival ride. Navigating an afterlife in the confounding recovery community produced its own unique challenges, exacerbated by suddenly becoming a multi-millionaire.… Lownds keeps his demons at bay and life's journey continues. “Cracking Up” is a shake your head, hold your breath roller coaster ride. A full-blown, down-and-dirty, soul-destructing, and death-defying series of events that occurred in just 1,000 days, followed by a penitential pilgrimage that took years. A journey infused with tragedy, tempered by humor. “Cracking Up” is a ride you don't want to miss. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

Sure seems that way. Hysterical predictions of gloom and destruction if Trump should win are beginning to dominate leftists cable news broadcasts. The lecturing of black men considering supporting Trump continues, while new polls suggest even white women are trading Trump. SNL seems to be playing it safe and feels comfortable mocking Harris' inability to connect with voters. JD Vance and Mike Johnson laugh in the faces of the Sunday morning show hosts' bizarre attempts to change the topic from Harris' poor campaign. Meanwhile, Tim Walz puts on brand new hunting gear and pretends to pheasant hunt in an attempt to connect with men, or something. Plus, Troy Miller - president of the National Religious Broadcasters explains his Fox News OpEd on why evangelical voters could make all the difference this election and entertainment correspondent Christian Toto explains the silence from the celebrity culture on the recent hurricanes. -For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's summah, Sisters! Time for some straight talk...and a good laugh or 20. Luckily, we've got veteran comic Jackie Kashian on the show to help with both. Jackie Kashian is a stand-up comedian who has been seen on After Midnight, Conan, Corden, HBO, Netflix, and Comedy Central. She's been heard on NPR and Audible. Touring 45 weeks a year, the tour is just called her career. Her 5 comedy albums and specials have been number one on Amazon and Apple and #3 on Billboard. In addition to two podcasts, “The Jackie and Laurie Show” and “The Dork Forest,” you can also read her writing in “The Comedy Film Nerds Guide to Movies” and the comic book “Comics Comics Quarterly”. Currently, she has a new TINY comedy special "LOOKING BACK" shot from the camera of a Mazda 6 in reverse. Abby and Julie open the episode celebrating/lamenting the self-care machinations, time, travel, and clothing purchases it takes to prepare for wedding season redux -- the time of life when your kids, nieces and nephews, and friends' kids start to get married.

So, if your life could use a sprinkle of humor or if you're simply curious to hear what happens when comedians get real about their craft, this episode with Ricky Novella is your ticket to the show.Subscribe to The Mindbuzz Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIYj7eDCsV3YPzxv7VRKZKg Don't forget to follow us on Instagram @themindbuzz https://www.instagram.com/themindbuzz/ to keep up with our hosts, guests, and upcoming events! The plaintiff says her uncle died, and the defendant — his supposed dear friend — stole all his belongings. She never gave him permission, so she's suing for the value of the items. The defendant says he helped clean out the condo and only took a few small items with sentimental value. Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is his sister. He claims he bought a car from her, but it's a giant lemon and she won't take it back. He's suing for a refund. The defendant says her brother drove the car and worked just fine, and she had to go to the cops because the plaintiff and his wife were harassing her. Plus, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant and soon found it was unsuitable for her and her son because the neighbors were partying pot smokers and mail thieves. The plaintiff was let out of her lease, but the defendant kept some of the deposit, so she's suing. The defendant says she has every right to withhold the money because the plaintiff broke the lease. The plaintiff's neighbor hired the defendant's company to trim his trees, and the plaintiff claims the company illegally parked their heavy truck on the plaintiff's driveway without his permission. The plaintiff alleges the defendant damaged his property, and he's suing for the repairs. The defendant, a tree-trimming professional of over 40 years, insists he's not responsible for the damages. Then, the plaintiff was driving on Halloween night when he claims the impatient defendant tried to pass him and sideswiped his car. The plaintiff is suing the defendant for the damages. The defendant alleges the plaintiff was the one who cut her off, and she believes he was intoxicated. The plaintiff purchased a food truck from the defendant, but he says when he went to pick it up, the defendant wouldn't turn it over to him. First, the defendant said he needed to fix the radiator and the brakes. Then, the defendant said the transmission needed repair. Every week it was something else, so the plaintiff requested a refund, but the defendant refused, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff took so long to pay off the food truck that the radiator froze up in the cold winter months, and he denies owing anything.
