(Conversation recorded on July 24th, 2024)   In the past century of abundant energy surplus, humanity's globalized, large-scale approach to problem-solving has yielded remarkable benefits and innovations. However, as we face a future with reduced energy resources, mounting waste, and a biosphere in danger, the negative impacts of this approach are increasingly overshadowing its gains. How should we evaluate and change these tactics as we look to build future societies that can better attune with their environments and the health of the planet? This week, Nate is joined by Daniel Christian Wahl, a leader and activist in regenerative living, for an exploration into what our lifestyles and communities could look like if we aligned human systems—like agriculture, economy, and community planning—with the natural ecosystems of a specific bioregion to create more sustainable and harmonious ways of living.  How can small, incremental  improvements made at the local ecological level create emergent benefits for the entire planet? What do we need to unlearn from past centuries of living in order to find balance with nature in the habitats and regions that we call home? How can individuals incorporate regenerative principles into their own lives today, regardless of their surrounding systems?    About Daniel Christian Wahl: Daniel Christian Wahl is one of the catalysts of the rising reGeneration movement and the author of Designing Regenerative Cultures - so far translated into seven languages. He works as a consultant, educator and activist with NGOs, businesses, governments and global change agents. With degrees in biology and holistic science, and a PhD in Design for Human and Planetary Health, his work has influenced the emerging fields of regenerative design and salutogenic design. He is the winner of the 2021 RSA Bicentenary Medal for applying design in service to society and was awarded a two year Volans-Fellowship in 2022.   Show Notes and More Watch this video episode on Youtube  --- Support Institute for the Study of Energy and Our Future Join our Substack newsletter Join our Discord channel and connect with other listeners

In this episode of Green Planet Blue Planet, Host Julian Guderley asks this question of Biologist and Regeneration thought-leader Author Daniel Wahl Christian, and explores the critical mission to stretch beyond sustainable communities to become builders and custodians of regenerative bioregions for the future. As ethical concerns surrounding AI loom large, they explore the urgent need to dismantle the mental barriers that separate humans from co-creating with nature. Regenerative ecosystems call for a departure from abstract problem-solving towards a deep connection with nature. Daniel emphasizes that true regeneration can only be achieved within a specific place, context, and culture, rather than through generic master plans. It requires embracing a culture of care and reigniting humanity's innate bond with the natural world. Throughout the episode, listeners are invited to embark on a transformative journey of learning, discovery, and adaptation, recognizing their agency and falling in love with nature. Join Julian and Daniel as they challenge prevailing mindsets and inspire a new era of regenerative practices. Discover how co-creating with the natural world can reshape our future for the better. # About Daniel Christian Wahl: Daniel Christian Wahl is a biologist, renowned sustainability educator, consultant, and activist. One World in a New World with Daniel Christian Wahl - Author, Educator, Regenerative Catalyst Daniel Christian Wahl was born in Munich in 1971 and grew up in Germany. By the time he was 28 he had travelled in 35 different countries on six continents. His early career was as a marine biologist and scuba diving instructor, before he decided to focus on sustainability and sustainable communities in 1998. Daniel also holds an MSc in Holistic Science (Schumacher College, 2002) and a PhD in Natural Design (University of Dundee, 2006). In reflecting on the initial dive into potential early recognition of an inner connection to everything, Daniel notes a conversation with his brother at about 9 years old while living in Munich in 1980. He sets the stage well, revealing conditions and societal fears at the time in Germany. It will impact your understanding of the progress we've made. He speaks to an early awareness of connections to the ocean and then forests, which led him to understand a perspective as being a part of a larger system. Finding deep access to our larger being, resting in our nature as nature, most find it in nature and don't believe they can find it in metro areas. He shares perspectives you might find insightful, even intriguing. Daniel's depth of inquiry and not knowing or presuming answers allows us to ask better questions, to peer deeper into the mechanisms that are include healthy systems and systemic challenges, such as structural violence. He mentions several key areas of concern and some pitfalls as well as peaks in collaborative achievements. The powerful question he offers, echoes throughout Designing Regenerative Cultures is, "How do we live the questions together?" Is it possible that question has potential in our collective growth as a global society? The conversation dives deeper than most in the exploration of synergy in systems and the questions still to be asked in the process of developing a sustainable and thriving world. Once you click in, you'll want to stay. Daniel is a deep thinker, insightful inquisitor, and wonderful willing guest to explore the deeper things that matter to us all in micro and macro fashion. If we don't ask question, explore fearlessly and become vulnerable to the emergent, how can we expect to succeed? Daniel's tenure as Director of Findhorn College, member of GAIA Education and engagement in the 'Ecosystem Design Education,' 'Design for Sustainability' and 'Bioregional Design Education' programs bring a flavor to the these apocalyptic chats we haven't had yet. Among the unanswered questions are some tasty tidbits of what we know about challenges we face. Enjoy the show and come back for more. Don't forget to subscribe. Daniel Christian Wahl is one of the motors and originators of the regenerative design trend that is really picking up speed now. We speak about a number of topics like: of coming home, what regenerative actually is, what would be a better topic than carbon dioxide to work on (water cycle). why it is important to leave the antroposcene behind as it might further be deepening our pathology of separation. How it is that we can integrate indigenous perspectives and world views in a more constructive way? Why our current state of technology development is also just kids stuff and not necessarily the pinnacle of what homo sapiens have achieved. This conversation is a peek into the world of the regenerative with one of it's wisdom keepers. It is a diverse, grounded and truly human. Will God answer your prayer if you don't end with, "In Jesus' name, Amen?" Learn what praying in the name of Jesus really means. I taught this week on the call of Abraham and the development of God's missionary call through the nation of Israel as they were responsible to communicate the truth of God to the cultures around them. They were given that great commission. The great commission didn't start in Matthew 28. It started with Abraham in Genesis 12 —the first three verses there —Abraham, chosen by God to raise up a nation who would then be God's priests to the world so that they would be a blessing to all of the nations. They had a unique role in the great monotheistic religion. The Jews were supposed to reflect morality to the world. Israel was to witness to the name of God. When they talked about the name of God and witnessing to God's name, that does not mean that they were to let everybody know what they called God, "Yahweh." Their goal wasn't to cover the countryside with evangelists who just let everybody know what the right word for God was. It meant something different. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ https://linktr.ee/jacksonlibon --------------------------------------------------- #face #instagram #amour #take #couple #garden #tiktok #psychology #beyou #near #love #foryou #money #ForYouPizza #fyp #irobot #theend #pups #TikToker #couplegoals #famille #relation #doudou #youtube #twitter #tiktokers #love #reeĺs #shorts #instagood #follow #like #ouy #oyu #babyshark #lilnasx #girl #happybirthday #movie #nbayoungboy #deviance #autotrader #trading #khan #academy #carter #carguru #ancestry #accords #abc #news #bts #cbs #huru #bluebook #socialmedia #whatsapp #music #google #photography #memes #marketing #india #followforfollowback #likeforlikes #a #insta #fashion #k #trending #digitalmarketing #covid #o #snapchat #socialmediamarketing

Daniel Christian Wahl is originally from Germany but currently lives on the island of Mallorca in Spain. Daniel's book, Designing Regenerative Cultures, has been a source of inspiration for many who want to learn more about what it means to engage in regenerative approaches in different areas of life. In this conversation we speak about Daniel's own journey into topics related to regeneration and how he sees the changes that needs to take place to alter the destructive path most cultures are on today. Daniel says that sustainability or regeneration is a process of journeying into the future, rather than some sort of master plan blueprint that you can design, implement and then live happily ever after. Instead of getting caught up in thoughts about a collapsing ecology, Daniel thinks that the human dimension needs to be brought back into conversation in order to deal with the multitude of crises that the planet is facing. He says that to make a change happen and shift the discourse we need to look within ourselves and ask ourselves who are we, where do we come from, and where are we going?

In this episode, I speak with Daniel Christian Wahl, international consultant and educator specializing in biologically-inspired whole systems design and transformative innovation. He is the author of Designing Regenerative Cultures and has worked with local and national governments on foresight and futures, consulted companies like Camper, Ecover and Lush on sustainable innovation, and has co-authored and taught sustainability training courses for Gaia Education, LEAD International and various universities and design schools. Daniels experience and views on regenerative cultures are part of a larger systemic conversation that involve education and the pressing need for change. In this episode, we discuss: The building capacity in ourselves, others, and life, over looking for fixed solutions; Making the teaching of bio-productivity a measure, if not the measure, of success; Being receptive to place so we can become expressions of place. In this episode of The (Re)generative Education Podcast I chat with dr. Daniel Christian Wahl, international thought leader, consultant and educator involved with a variety of educational programmes in the field of regenerative design at Schumacher´s College, Findhorn College and Gaia University amongst others. In this chat Daniel argues for a shift from education as problem-solving and becoming locally attuned to the uniqueness of place within bioregions. The process we need to educate for is the ability to act in the face of dynamically changing contexts. He sees the heart of regeneration as integrating human patterns with conditions that are conducive to creating life. Subsequently the challenge for education to play an active part in restoring this connection. This, he argues, is a destination without arrival.  In this discussion the following systemic barriers and opportunities emerged:  The importance of taking a relational, connected (holistic), perspective on what life can be.  The power of starting education from the way our minds constructs narratives, structures and organizes the complexity of the material world.  The ability of design to act as a DJ that mix-and-matches to apply connected knowledges into practice that is right at the intersection of hollistic approaches to sciences.  The big challenge for education is to bring back the kaleidoscopic picture of bringing a lot of different disciplines together to understand the complexity of which we are a part.   Argues for a more humble approach to science as an appropiate participation in complexity, with the main aim being to finding better questions to ask.  The importance of placing education central in one's life as well as our communities.  Avoiding the mistake of engaging with dichotomies and playing with the space in between and/or.  External Links:  Daniel Christian Wahl – Medium Designing Regenerative Cultures - Triarchy Press Daniel Christian Wahl - Resilience Daniel Christian Wahl, PhD | LinkedIn Daniel Christian Wahl – GaiaEducation.org Qualitative Systems Thinking | H3Uni

What does it mean to design a regenerative culture? How we can become regenerative by design? What we can be doing in our daily lives to be part of the urgent change we need to see in the world? These are the questions we explore today. It is my great pleasure to share with you on Sense-making in a Changing World today, a conversation I recorded with Daniel Christian Wahl PhD as we walked through the ancient olive terraces around the medieval monastery, Son Rullan on the island of Mallorca in the Mediterranean. We met there last year for the first time - the beginning of a friendship after knowing of each other's work for years. We both are deeply involved in ecovillages, education, regenerative design and have a deep affiliation with Schumacher College, the Global Ecovillage Network and Gaia Education.Daniel's book, Designing Regenerative Cultures, published in 2016 is essential reading - helping us to reframe the crises we currently face and exploring how we can live our way into the future.Son Rullan has hosted many ecological gatherings and conversations, including an Ecovillage Design Education program, and my family and I were so graciously welcomed there as guests for the duration of our stay.Daniel and I talked in pre-COVID times, but I am sharing this again because what Daniel shares is so relevant to where we find ourselves today.I hope you enjoy this conversation with Daniel and I invite you to share this episode and subscribe to my podcast here.Find out more about permacultureThere's lots of free permaculture resources on my Our Permaculture Life Youtube and blog.

In this interview I had the pleasure of speaking with Daniel Christian Wahl, Daniel is an international consultant and educator specialising in biologically-inspired whole systems design and transformative innovation. By the time he was 28 Daniel had travelled to 35 different countries on six continents and he started his career as a marine biologist and scuba diving instructor, before he decided to focus on sustainability and sustainable communities. Originally trained at the University of Edinburgh and the University of California, Santa Cruz, Daniel also holds a Masters degree in Holistic Science from Schumacher College, and a PhD in Natural Design from the University of Dundee. Daniel has taught capacity building workshops on a wide range of sustainability issues to local authorities and businesses and has worked closely with Gaia Education since 2006 when he participated in the first training of trainers for the ‘Ecovillage Design Education' program. Daniel currently lives on Majorca, and works locally and internationally as a consultant, educator and activist, and in 2016 he published his first book, “Designing Regenerative Cultures.” In today's session we cover a very wide range of regenerative design theory and Daniel's perspective and experience on community and cultural shifts, the factors of time in nuanced design, working in collaboration on multi-stakeholder projects and much more. This interview is the perfect capstone for this last month's focus on design theory and regenerative community dynamics so before I give it all away, I'll hand it over now to Daniel.
