Books That Make You Try to Escape the Maze As a #1 New York Times bestselling author, James Dashner is perhaps best known for his YA “Maze Runner” series, though he is also the author of the bestselling “Mortality Doctrine” series, which includes The Eye of Minds, The Rule of Thoughts, and The Game of Lives. 2014 saw the release of a film adaptation of The Maze Runner, followed by another two films in 2015 and 2018. Altogether, the three films raked in almost a billion dollars. The three films' collective box-office earnings make it the fourth highest-grossing film series based on young-adult books, after those of Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games. Born and raised in Georgia, Dashner now lives and writes in the Rocky Mountains with his wife and their four children. The House of Tongues, his new adult horror novel, was inspired by the stories his family told of their run-in with a serial killer. As his adult fiction debut, Tongues also represents his first crossover into screenwriting. Dashner enjoys the creativity and freedom allowed by writing in different genres and media, and has numerous stories slated ahead for the page and the screen. Find out more on Books That Make You. On April 22, 2019 twin sisters Ashley Dashner and Amanda Szamecki created the #JudisAngels project. Just 2 months before their Grandma Judi went home to be with Jesus on 2/22. Watching their Grandma in and out of 3 different facilities for the unexpected last 27 days of her life- her hope had been stolen by a doctor and quickly it was noticed that she was wishing for certain caregivers to be working... or to not be working. There just seems to be a real lack of compassion in healthcare these days. The workers Grams wished for were because she could tell they cared. Our family wished upon certain workers... because we could tell who really cared. Wouldn’t it be nice to create an environment where you don't have to wish for certain caregivers... because ALL the workers care? The scariest thing in the world is to watch your vulnerable loved one being cared for by people you fear can’t possibly care as much as you do. This project is to remind healthcare workers that we are angels sent by God to care for and make a difference in our patient's lives. WE ARE ALL JUDIS ANGELS... and Jerry’s Angels... and Mary’s Angels... We want to focus on those who are compassionate, lift them upon a pedestal as role models, so others strive to be as compassionate.

His work in the 1960s and 1970s earned him the reputation of "rock's first superstar drummer", for a style that melded jazz and African rhythms and pioneered both jazz fusion and world music. Baker's drumming is regarded for its style, showmanship, and use of two bass drums instead of the conventional one. Baker was an inductee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Cream, of the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2008, and of the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame in 2016. Baker was noted for his eccentric, often self-destructive lifestyle, and he struggled with heroin addiction for many years. He was married four times and fathered three children. To achieve this, the probe was equipped with a dual-lens 35mm camera, one a 200mm, f/5.6 aperture, the other a 500mm, f/9.5. The photo sequencing was automatically triggered when Luna 3's photocell detected the sunlit far side, which occurred when the craft was passing about 40,000 miles above the lunar surface. The radio-controlled Luna 3 was part of the Soviet Union's highly successful lunar program, which completed 20 missions to the moon between January 1959 and October 1970. - https://www.wired.com/2011/10/1007luna-3-photos-dark-side-moon/Remembrances2 Oct 2019 - John Kirby, American attorney. This established him as one of the foremost leaders and experts in the field. Under his influence neurosurgery became a new and autonomous surgical discipline. He was the world's leading teacher of neurosurgeons in the first decades of the 20th century. Arguably, Cushing's greatest contribution came with his introduction to North America of blood pressure measurement. Cushing's name is commonly associated with his most famous discovery, Cushing's disease. In 1912 he reported in a study an endocrinological syndrome caused by a malfunction of the pituitary gland which he termed "polyglandular syndrome." He published his findings in 1932 as "The Basophil Adenomas of the Pituitary Body and Their Clinical Manifestations: pituitary Basophilism". Cushing developed many surgical instruments that are in use today, most notably Cushing forceps and the Cushing ventricular cannula. Bohr was also a philosopher and a promoter of scientific research. Bohr developed the Bohr model of the atom, in which he proposed that energy levels of electrons are discrete and that the electrons revolve in stable orbits around the atomic nucleus but can jump from one energy level (or orbit) to another. Although the Bohr model has been supplanted by other models, its underlying principles remain valid. He conceived the principle of complementarity: that items could be separately analysed in terms of contradictory properties, like behaving as a wave or a stream of particles. The notion of complementarity dominated Bohr's thinking in both science and philosophy. He predicted the existence of a new zirconium-like element, which was named hafnium, after the Latin name for Copenhagen, where it was discovered. Later, the element bohrium was named after him. He was involved with the establishment of CERN and the Research Establishment Risø of the Danish Atomic Energy Commission and became the first chairman of the Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics in 1957. In November of that year he had an idea when going to be "about a bunch of teenagers living inside an unsolvable Maze full of hideous creatures, in the future, in a dark, dystopian world. It would be an experiment, to study their minds. Terrible things would be done to them – awful things; completely hopeless – until the victims turn everything on its head." Today's Guest: Novelist James Dashner, author of The Maze Runner trilogy of young adults fiction. Order 'The Maze Runner' by James Dashner from Amazon.com by clicking on the book cover above! Recommendations are worth what you pay for them, so I don’t always accept them at face value. But the same literary agent who turned me on to young adult novelist Sara Zarr two years ago thought I’d also enjoy James Dashner’s new YA book, The Maze Runner, enough that he sent me a copy without first asking. And Michael—who, in the interests of full disclosure, represents all three of us—even though there is hardly a bit of similarity between the work of these two authors, you read me pretty well so feel free to recommend something else. JAMES DASHNER audio excerpt: "The words in The Maze Runner are never used exactly as replacements for swear words. Their main intent was to give their dialogue a futuristic flavor and that they've been isolated and developed some words on their own."
