The partners felt townhomes were undervalued and liked the protection of the HOA against unplanned capital expenditures. Later that year, Matt left his job at Target to pursue a career in fundraising but continued to work with his partners to grow their new company, Minnesota Capital Management (MCM). In the years following 2011, Matt and his partners purchased 4-5 townhomes per year by reinvesting profits and investing personal capital. Everything changed in the summer of 2015 when Matt and his partners found their first multi-family investment, 75 units across three properties. Matt left his W2 job in May 2018 and moved his family back to Minneapolis to run MCM full-time. In the process, Matt and his partners founded their own property management company, Northwoods Servicing (NWS). NWS manages the Twin Cities portion of MCM's portfolio and has allowed the partners to own more of the value chain. Today, Matt and his wife live in Minneapolis with their three kids.
