Four time Tony Awards nominee David Korins lets us into his world as he talks about his creative process and the intricacies of set design. He shares insights into his work's detailed and often granular nature, emphasizing the importance of even the smallest elements in creating a believable world for actors and audiences alike. He discusses set design for complex productions like “Beetlejuice”, and how he and director Alex Timbers viewed the house as a character itself, which led to numerous model versions to perfect the design. For “Hamilton”, he recounts starting with imaginative sketches and how the final design emerged through collaboration and feedback. While it might not make sense to the audience at times, David underscores the importance of (unseen) detailed set elements, and how they play an important role in helping actors perform authentically. He reflects on coming up with set designs for different mediums and finding new techniques to make his visions come to life, highlighting the evolving role of technology in set design and using Dear Evan Hansen and “The Who's Tommy” as examples. With countless visions realized, David reveals that ultimately, he gets his motivation from the desire to help others realize their own. David Korins is an internationally recognized award-winning creative director and designer responsible for creating 360-degree, fully immersive, holistic experiences for some of the biggest stars, brands, and events worldwide and in theatre and Broadway. He brought to life the environments for smash hits like “Hamilton”, “Dear Evan Hansen”, “Beetlejuice”, and “Mrs. Doubtfire”, among many others. The maiden voyage of a cruise ship starring a boatload of musical theater stars — like Tony Award-winners Laura Benanti, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming and Lena Hall — will set sail next spring. The Broadway Cruise — heading roundtrip from New York City to Bermuda, from March 31-April 5, 2023 — will also feature Tony nominees Joshua Henry, Taylor Louderman and Jeremy Jordan, as well as Broadway favorites Randy Rainbow and Sierra Boggess. Producers promise “intimate and grand scale shows and cabarets from Broadway's coolest talent” as well as “tips and techniques from some of the best and brightest creative talent working today.” Tony-nominated scenic designer David Korins will discuss his creative process when designing settings for the stage and Tony-nominated choreographer Kelly Devine will discuss the art of the dance. Chris Jahnke will serve as music director. The cruise will borrow the Norwegian Gem, which accommodates 2,000 people. Cabin prices begin at $1,165 per person. The trip was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Cruise ships were an early source of outbreaks at the start of the pandemic. The CDC issued a no-sail order in March 2020, prompting a standstill that ended in June 2021 as cruise ships began to leave U.S. ports with new health and safety requirements. All guests 12 and over — and all artists and crew — aboard The Broadway Cruise are required to be fully vaccinated and present proof of vaccination to board. The installation features 500,000 cubic feet of 360-degree projections to allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in video showcasing Vincent van Gogh's famous works. This week we bring you the tale of 2012's Bring It On: The Musical. Bring It On was created from the ground up by some of the greatest talents working in theater today: Andy Blankenbuehler (director / choreographer), Lin-Manuel Miranda (music, lyrics), Tom Kitt (Music), Amanda Green (Music, Lyrics), Alex Lacamoire (Orchestrations), and David Korins (scenic design). For the episode, we'll find out how the show developed from a cult hit film to a Tony-nominated fan favorite which broke the mold with its characters and made its way into the Guinness Book of World Records.  This episode features brand new interviews with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Andy Blankenbuehler, Tom Kitt, Amanda Green, Taylor Louderman, Adrienne Warren, Gregory Haney, Helene Yorke, and the show's cheer and Stunt coordinator Jessica McDermott.

His theatrical work includes Hamilton (Tony nomination), War Paint (Tony nomination), Dear Evan Hansen, Bandstand, Misery, Motown, Bring It On, Lombardi, and Passing Strange. He won an Emmy award for his production design work on Grease: Live!. He has designed concert stages for Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Mariah Carey, and Andrea Boccelli.
