Tony Nominee Liz Larsen (BEAUTIFUL, HAIRSPRAY, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, STARMITES) joins David to share her love of the Disney Parks, specifically "Soarin'," "it's a small world," and the movie MULAN. When Liz was 19 she finally got to go to Disneyland for the first time and shares her memories from that trip, including going on "it's a small world" which she describes as "life changing." Many of Liz's Disney stories revolve around family, watching the movies with them and falling more in love with the characters, and an epic trip in 2005 for five days to Walt Disney World, battling the Florida weather and two small kids (and what happened after a family meal at Cinderella Castle). Liz's love for Disney is infectious, especially when she talks about the attractions and movies in the Disney universe that speaks to her. No "E-Ticket to Broadway" episode would be complete without mentioning Dopey, but this time it's the guest who brings up the Seven Dwarfs, specifically how she wants to be just like them when she's older. Together Liz and David play "The Sherman Brothers' Songbook," playing trivia about music written by the magical Sherman Brothers. Visually and sonically overwhelming, it's a prescient masterpiece of a rock opera.” Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

#02: Queer-o-Vision 18:36 - Gustaph (Eurovision Contestant, 2023, Representing Belgium) 35:18 Robin de Jesus (Three time Tony Nominated actor, Netflix's tick…tick..BOOM!, Hulu's Welcome to Chippendales) There's always been something a little queer about Eurovision. In our second episode, we explore the contest's history with the LGBTQ+ community– and how this “family show” has, at many points in its nearly 70 year existence, been way out front on LGBT rights issues. We also discuss the moments when the contest hasn't lived up to its image. We then talk to Gustaph, who, as a teen, left a promising career as a popstar in Belgium because of pressure to stay in the closet– only to emerge two decades later on the world's largest stage with a song that's unabashedly queer. The surprise hit of Eurovision this year, it catapulted to the top ten after being placed toward the bottom in the betting markets. We discuss how Gustaph's out and proud second act reflects a radically changed culture, and the ways in which homophobia, now subtler, seeps into both the fandom and supposedly “aesthetic” criticism. Tony nominated American actor Robin de Jesus then stops by to play a game of “Gay or Eurovision.” As he guesses whether a number is performed by a queer artist, or if its queer aesthetics are just part of the Eurovision brand; we talk about the evolution of queer style and queer music in a time of expanding rights and mainstreaming of the community. And that conversation sounds gay to you— you have no idea how gay it gets. Laura and Todd celebrate Pride Month with an inspiring interview with living legend L Morgan Lee, the first openly transgender actor to be nominated for a Tony Award for her featured role in "A Strange Loop.” As a seasoned performer with over two decades of experience on various stages, Lee shares her remarkable journey and unwavering advocacy for transgender representation in the arts and invites us into her deeply personal journey of self-discovery and resilience. Spending years performing as a boy before a transformative encounter with a trans person and non-binary individuals sparked deep self-reflection on gender and identity, she finally decided to "come out" as the woman she always knew she was. Lee illuminates her profound realization of her true self and emphasizes that everyone is undergoing a transition – a journey of self-love and self-acceptance. L Morgan also shares with us how her transition has not only reshaped her friendships but also strengthened her relationship with her mother and most importantly, herself. Speaking candidly about the realities and fears of dating as a trans woman, including the tragic instances of violence she experienced, Lee firmly debunks the harmful stereotype that trans women are immune to abuse. In this episode, Lee also delves into the critical discussion of gender-affirming care for children, with Lee advocating for a balanced approach that prioritizes mental health and enables children to make informed decisions about their gender identities at their own pace. In this remarkable interview, L Morgan passionately expresses her aspiration to serve as a beacon of representation in the entertainment industry, urging everyone to embrace their true selves and calling for increased visibility and inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community. Don't miss out on this inspiring journey of self-acceptance, advocacy for trans rights, and a rallying call for love.Links for L Morgan Lee: L Morgan on WikipediaL Morgan on IMBDL Morgan Lee Interview on TodayL Morgan Lee's OfficialWebsiteDaily News InterviewL Morgan on InstagramL Morgan on TwitterL Morgan on Facebook Hosted on Acast. Luke Sheppard and Jenn Weber are two creative geniuses currently teaming up for the smash hit, "& Juliet", as the show's director and choreographer, respectively. The two discuss the instant connection they had and where the concept for the show originated. While making "& Juliet" was originally a stretch for him, Luke recalls how it was also the most satisfying and fun he's ever had directing a show. The two recall how their journeys with "& Juliet" began, and how the workshops helped in getting the story and tone right. For Jenn the most exciting part is collaborating with the director and writer. The two take pride in the show's culture where there's room for support and honesty for each other. While Jenn and Luke's stories on how they got into theatre differ, the two share a common approach when it comes to pursuing their dreams: not taking no for an answer—a true testament that rejection doesn't mean failure and that you don't have to follow the traditional path that most people take to get to where you want to be. Luke Sheppard is a British theatre director known for his work in the West End and on Broadway. He studied at the University of Warwick before going on to train at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). Sheppard's directing credits include the West End productions of "In the Heights," "The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾," and "The Comedy About a Bank Robbery." He also directed the Broadway production of "& Juliet," which opened in 2019. Sheppard has won several awards for his work, including the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival for "In the Heights" in 2016. Jenn Weber is a choreographer and director who's also a double Tony Award nominee for the 2022-2023 Broadway season with nominations for Best Choreography for her Broadway debuts of “& Juliet” and “KPOP”. She made her West End debut as the choreographer of “& Juliet” and collaborated with Disney+ as an Executive Producer and Choreographer for a new film version of “The Hip Hop Nutcracker”. Her Off-Broadway choreography credits include “KPOP”, “Teenage Dick”, “Cruel Intentions”, and “Stockholm”. “Being a multi-hyphenate is not a disability – it's an ability. It's an advantage.” Jared Grimes is a Tony Nominated actor currently starring in Funny Girl on Broadway. His effervescent energy lights up the stage every night at The August Wilson Theatre. In this episode, his energy continues into our conversation as we discuss what being a “bag of tricks” in this industry actually means. In this episode, we discover Grimes' road to Broadway, how he turned his ADD diagnosis into multi-hyphenation, inspirations, getting people in power to understand the multi-hyphenate, and we chat about how tap opened up his eyes to the art of multi-hyphenating. “At an early age I began to latch on to the idea that if you're a tap dancer, that means you can be many things. It doesn't mean that you just use your feet to connect with people or share with people. I'm looking at all my heroes and they are singing, they are acting, they are comedians, they're lindyhoppers, they're writers, they're choreographers, they do camerawork – they are behind the camera, in front of the camera – all those guys did that and I was just like wow so that's what it is to be a tap dancer. My earliest idea of what a tap dancer was, was a multi-hyphenate.” Jared Grimes is a quadruple threat in the world of the arts where he is heavily making his mark in singing, dancing, acting, and choreographing. He received a Tony Nomination for his performance in Funny Girl on Broadway, which he is currently starring in.
