Julian, Madeline, and Emilio are graced by the enthusiastic presence of Tony-nominated actor Rob McClure to finish off their episode cycle on Oscar-Winning Supporting Performances with a "Close-Up" about three classic comedic roles, which each garnered their performers the coveted trophies. The first of these would be Kevin Kline's role in "A Fish Called Wanda" (1988), the British-American, Monty Python-adjacent caper where Kline plays the audaciously stubborn diamond thief Otto West. Next is that of Jack Palance in "City Slickers" (1991), the story of three New Yorkers on a cattle-herding vacation in the American West, in which Palance plays their rugged-yet-warm-hearted trail boss, Curly. And rounding out this trio is Marisa Tomei in "My Cousin Vinny," the courtroom dramedy where the titular Brooklyn lawyer is enlisted to represent his wrongfully-accused cousin and best friend in Alabama, depending on crucial contributions from his brash and mechanically-astute fiancée Mona Lisa Vito to work towards their exoneration. Though all of these films were released in nearby years, the group discusses why these performances stand the test of time, be it due to laugh-out-loud physical gags, the contrast between locals and fish-out-of-water, or the resonant truths at each role's foundation. Aided by Rob McClure's inimitable experience and expert insight about the "actually, actually" that defines a great comic performance, they trace the vast range of humor among these characters and the greater stories in which they appear, making notable stops along the way at unforgettable facial expressions, one-armed push-ups, and scathing instruction-manual retorts. Rob McClure has earned Tony nominations for his roles in the Broadway productions of Mrs. Doubtfire and Chaplin, and has also appeared in Something Rotten!, Mary Poppins, Hello Dolly, Beetlejuice, and many more productions On- and Off-Broadway. Rob McClure joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss kindness on and off Broadway, his beautiful full-circle moment during Beetlejuice, being kind to yourself and much more in one of our favorite chats ever... 2 Robs, 1 pod! (*chants*) Rob McClure is an actor and singer, who's become a magical fixture on the Broadway scene. Growing up in NJ, Rob was a bonafide theatre kid, winning the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Award his senior year. Consequently his first professional gig was at the Playhouse shortly after graduation. Rob made his Broadway debut in 2002 as an understudy in I'm Not Rappaport. From 2006 to 2009, he went on to play several roles in Avenue Q, both on Broadway and on the show's national tour. He spent the next three years working on a musical that would put him centerstage: Chaplin. The title role earned him a Theatre World Award and his first Tony Award nomination. Following Chaplin, Rob racked up a list of dazzling Broadway credits - not to mention various concerts and regional credits in between. You may have seen him in Honeymoon in Vegas or Noises Off. Or perhaps you caught his portrayal of Nick Bottom in Something Rotten on Broadway, which he continued for the first national tour alongside his wife Maggie Lakis. I'm such a sucker for a theatre love story. I most recently watched him day-ooo-ing his heart out in Beetlejuice on Broadway. Rob last lit up Broadway as the lead role in Mrs. Doubtfire… a marathon performance that earned him his second Tony nomination. Speaking of… it was just announced that the writer's strike will be affecting the Tony's live telecast this year. Please stay tuned after the interview for your kindness tip of the week where we'll chat a bit more about the writer's strike. Back to Rob! His screen credits include: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Good Fight, and Blue Bloods. One of the things I love most about him is the childlike sense of play and wonderment he seems to exude throughout all his projects. We cover so much ground from balancing your passions and your personal life to keep your mindset in a positive space. Of course Rob regales us with tons of fun Broadway stories along the way. Khalifa White is a musical theatre actress. She was introduced to fans of Broadway during Broadway.com's The Search of Roxie, when the musical Chicago was looking for a new Roxie Hart. In this contest, White made it to the top three, and even got to do a final callback audition for broadway legends such as the late Ann Reinking, Bebe Neuworth and Bianca Marroquin. Although she didn't win, she made her broadway debut shortly after this experience came to an end. White starred in the revival of the hit musical Caroline, or Change which was nominated for a Tony award for best revival. She then went on the very successful off-broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors. In this production, she got to share the stage with Broadway legend, Rob McClure as well as Pitch Perfect star, Skylar Astin. Now, White is on the national tour of Disney's The Lion King where she is playing everyones favorite lioness, Nala. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jayme-starr/support

Andrew Kober is (still) an American actor who has worked in many musicals, most recently in the phenomenal Beetlejuice, the Musical (check out season 1 for my first interview with Andrew). After closing Beetlejuice, he spends most of his time at home wondering how Rob McClure commutes from Philadelphia to NYC to perform all the time, or playing with his new drone that his wife bought him. He's got an incredible new project he's working on that is not The Notebook (don't worry, he never tells us because he signed a NDA), and is ultimately afraid of how high up I live in the cast housing provided by the Funny Girl production. Tony Award-nominee and Broadway superstar Rob McClure (Beetlejuice, Mrs. Doubtfire, Avenue Q) joins David to chat all things Disney Parks on this episode of 'E-Ticket to Broadway'! Rob's love and fascination with Disney magic is incredibly sweet and genuine--listen as he shares his experience of going to Walt Disney World for the first time at age 16 and how he was immediately in awe. It was that trip that made him fall in love with the Disney Theme Parks (and also the first time he left his home state of New Jersey!). The next time Rob went was while on tour with Avenue Q and his wife Maggie, and this trip cemented his love of Main Street USA, the Country Bear Jamboree, and The Enchanted Tiki Room. Meeting the Fab Five at the Parks and seeing Tinkerbell during the Fireworks remain a core memory for Rob. He and David go back in time to talk about Rob's early experiences with Disney--dancing and conducting to the soundtrack of "The Lion King," seeing both "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" & "Aladdin" in the movie theater, and being in awe of that voice actor who gave life to the Genie. Rob shares his love of Captain Hook, Smee, Geppetto, and Jiminy Cricket, as well as the Muppets (and tells the story of finding an amazing piece of merch he found at the Parks). At the time of recording, Rob was just back from taking his daughter to Walt Disney World for the first time and shares some fun memories from the trip, including dinner at Beast's castle and walking through Galaxy's Edge and sobbing. He reveals a very special story about his daughter and wife having a similar reaction to a certain magical moment above Cinderella Castle. Of the many Broadway characters he's played, which one would Rob most like to go to a Disney Park with? What job would Rob want if he became a Cast Member? How would he like to amp up Muppet representation in the Parks? All of these questions are answered on this episode, and Rob and David play "Rob McClure or Walt Disney," everyone's favorite game. #DickensianCloche Follow on Instagram: @etickettobroadway Rob's Instagram: @mcclurerob David's Instagram: @directedbydavidalpert Learn more at www.eticketpodcast.com Part of the Broadway Podcast Network Learn more about your ad choices. A LIVE panel discussion with Rob McClure, Brad Oscar, and Analise Scarpaci of “Mrs. Doubtfire” talking about the roller coaster of being part of a Broadway show during a pandemic and the bond formed as they all dealt with the effects of COVID, including their show getting postponed. Rob recalls what it was like playing a role originally played by Robin Williams, and why he thinks the greatest adaptations of either material or performances are those that try to imitate how it made the audience feel. Analise shares her experience working with Rob and Brad, and how she helped her younger co-actors in the show. Coming from two shows back to back that dealt with serious matters in a comedic way, Rob shares the positive reception they got from people, and why comedy is such a good genre in that "you come to laugh and then through laughter we crack you open so that in the end we can deliver a message". Brad supports this by sharing how doing comedy is a means of catharsis. Rob explains the term "actually actually" that he cherishes particularly in comedy, and how acting is "reacting truthfully to imaginary circumstances". The three also talk about their favorite scenes, rehearsal as playtime, and the learnings they got from being in “Mrs. Doubtfire”. Rob McClure is an actor best known for his roles in musical theatre, particularly as Nick Bottom in "Something Rotten!" and Adam Maitland in "Beetlejuice". His performance in the title role of the musical "Chaplin" has earned him a nomination for the 2013 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical and has won the Theatre World Award. His other theatre credits include "I'm not Rappaport", "Avenue Q", "Noises Off", "Honeymoon in Vegas", and the latest one, "Mrs. Doubtfire" where he was nominated for the 2022 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He won Best Actor at both The Queen's World and Williamsburg Independent film festivals for the movie, "Recursion". His TV credits include "Person of Interest", "Elementary" and "The Good Fight". Brad Oscar has been seen on numerous Broadway shows, including "Something Rotten!" and “The Producers” where he earned two Tony Award nominations for his performance. He has also performed in "The Big Fish", "Nice Work...", "The Addams Family", "Spamalot", "Jekyll & Hyde", "Aspects of Love", and “Mrs Doubtire” among others. His Off-Broadway and Regional credits include “Damn Yankees”, “Forbidden Broadway”, “Sweeney Todd”, and both the “Phantom of the Opera” and “Young Frankenstein” national tours. He has also appeared in movies and TV shows such as "Ghost Town", "The Producers", "Madam Secretary", "Smash", "The Good Wife"', and "Law & Order". Analise Scarpaci made her Broadway debut in 2012's “A Christmas Story, The Musical” where she played the role of Esther Jane. Her other stage credits include "Matilda the Musical", "Lolita, My Love", and "Mrs. Doubtfire" which was her first principal role as Lydia Hillard. Analise has also appeared in the short films, "Thespians" and "We're Gonna Come Back". She recently released her debut EP, "Pathetic Little Dreamer" which received positive reviews. Apart from performing, Analise has also done activist work and raised money with her walking group, Broadway for Bellies, and is currently giving private coaching and lessons to teens and kids. Analise Scarpaci is a Broadway star who has three shows already under belt. She made her broadway debut in middle school where she was part of the cast of a Christmas Story. The musical was based on the loved book with music written by extremely innovative Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Scarpaci's journey with Broadway continued when she was a Swing (someone who covers multiple tracks) in Matilda: The Musical. She was one of those lucky kids who got to ride one of those swings on stage when she went on. Not only did Scarpaci star in the show on Broadway, but she also travelled on the national tour of show as well. Her latest project was portraying the role of Lydia Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire: The Musical. In this show she starred beside Broadway royalty, Rob McClure and Jenn Gambatese. (They played Daniel/Mrs. Doubtfire and Miranda Hillard). The original show was a huge part of her life growing up and getting to be in the show on Broadway was a true honor for her. Besides her professional career, Scarpaci also has Crohn's Disease (just like me), and is passionate about sharing awareness for IBD with the Broadway community. Lastly, fans can catch her debut EP called Pathetic Little Dreamer which is out now wherever you listen to your music. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jayme-starr/support

Rob McClure is a mother f***ing FIXTURE on Broadway. There is something infectious about the way this guy talks about theatre. A perpetual childlike wonder and amazement geared toward everything he does to contribute to the Broadway stage. He makes an audiences theatre experience one they will always remember, because he truly understands the value of a live audience! Sure, he is approaching “legend” territory on Broadway, but did you know his fascination with performing all started when he would perform Vampire movies in the woods… without anyone filming it?!?! I’D TRUST A WEIRDO KID LIKE THAT ENDLESSLY! Of course we know him for his Tony nominate role of Charlie Chaplin in the Broadway musical Chaplin, and his portrayal of Adam Maitland in the Broadway Blockbuster “Beetlejuice” but did you know that he literally cannot wrap his head around people who use a sibilant “S” when they speak?? Can you blame him?!?! Enough with the sibilant “S’s” you guys! Like, the whole world knows the Rob was starring as the title role in the musical adaptation of Mrs. Doubtfire right before the Broadway shut down (and is returning in the role when theaters reopen), but did you know that his grandmother cried more during a performance of Les Miserables than she did at her own husband’s funeral??? WELL BUCKLE UP, GUYS AND GALS, because Rob and I discuss all of that and much more in this weeks’ episode. From his mission statement as a theater kid, to his non-stop career on stage, all the way to a fun game of “the most impossible questions” where I put him through the wringer asking him questions that are nearly impossible to answer. I had a blast with him, and you will too! "Forever starts tonight" as hosts Bobby and Kristina discuss 2015's Honeymoon In Vegas on episode five of My Favorite Flop. ABOUT HONEYMOON IN VEGAS Based on the 1992 movie of the same name, Honeymoon In Vegas tells the story of Jack Singer, a Brooklynite with an extreme fear of marriage, who finally gets up the nerve to ask his girlfriend Betsy to marry him. But when smooth-talking gambler Tommy — looking for a second chance at love — falls head over heels for Betsy, Jack must go to extreme heights to win back the love of his life. The musical features a book by Andrew Bergman (who wrote and directed the original film) with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown. Honeymoon In Vegas held a workshop and backers auditions in October 2011, with T.R. Knight, Mary Faber, and Tony Danza in the leading roles. An expected pre-Broadway tryout in Toronto was scheduled for the following year, but was ultimately cancelled, leaving the show's future in limbo. In September 2013, the show finally premiered to rave reviews at the Paper Mill Playhouse with Rob McClure and Brynn O'Malley replacing T.R. Knight and Mary Faber as Jack and Betsy. The Broadway production opened on January 15, 2015 in the middle of a harsh New York winter. Despite getting nearly unanimous praise from the critics, including a love letter from The New York Times, the show struggled to find an audience and ultimately closed on April 5, after just 93 performances. A national tour, once again starring Tony Danza, was announced to take place in 2016, but never materialized. The London premiere was given by the London Musical Theatre Orchestra conducted by Jason Robert Brown in a semi-staged concert version at the London Palladium on March 12, 2017. We talk with Memphis Symphony's assistant conductor Kalena Bovell about finding her love of music by accident, inspiring the next generation of classical musicians, and collaborating with Rob McClure on the Ragtime-themed Conductor Cam music video.
After winning the award for best actor at the National High School Musical Theater Awards (the Jimmy Awards), he joined the cast of Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway in the title role before he could legally vote. He began his own theatre company, Zneefrock Productions, to raise money for autism awareness. He can be heard playing himself in As the Curtain Rises, an original Broadway soap opera podcast, and most recently starred in Ratatouille the TikTok musical. He still can't legally drink yet.
