The Duke Blue Devils hammered the Wake Forest Demon Deacons last night to cap an undefeated 17-0 record in Cameron this season. We recap it all on Episode 699. With Jason out, our 6th Man Scott Rich joins Donald to recap everything that happened in this game. Duke had a sluggish start, but it was so much fun to see this team scrap to take the lead and open it up to a 40 point lead late before winning 93-60. Scott and Donald talk though all of the major things that Duke did well, from hustle to defense to Cooper Flagg's NPOY performance. We also get into some of the bad, including a discussion on Caleb Foster not getting into the game. There were some picks to nit, but this team is steadily becoming one that no one wants to mess with in March. We end with love for the Duke Women's Team as they prepare for the ACC Tournament this week in Greensboro. Make sure you're following us! Have you ever met someone who talks a good game but doesn't back it up? Whether it's the friend who promises to help but never shows up or the coworker with big ideas but no follow-through, we all know the frustration of empty words. James confronts a similar issue when it comes to faith: faith without action is like words without deeds—it's empty. Welcome to the Daily Devo. Our text today is James 2:18-20. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? — James 2:18-20 James makes a comparison today on a topic he has already been building on. He presents a fictional debate between two people who live in two ways: one who claims they have faith without evidence and the other with faith with evidence. This comparison cuts to the core of a decision for Jesus that demonstrates no decisive change. In James' mind, what we might think of as "easy believism" might be a belief, but it is not a living, working, and active faith in Jesus. He calls it foolish, useless (James 2:20), and dead (James 2:17). He then makes another comparison to emphasize the preposterous nature of the logic of "easy believism." He highlights that demons themselves hold an orthodox understanding of God's existence and oneness. They acknowledge the truth of God's sovereignty. They even tremble in fear because they know God's power and authority. However, their faith is not a genuine saving faith because it fails to produce evidence of authentic faith. Their belief does not produce signs of repentance, obedience, or a transformed relationship with God. God is merely a fact they cannot deny, yet it does nothing to change their rebellion. The shocking implication is that "faith without evidence" is similar to the "faith" of demons. Both may believe God exists, believe he is one, know God is sovereign, and tremble in fear before God but demonstrate no demonstrative. Faith that is not demonstrative is demonic. James challenges his readers to examine their proclamation of faith carefully. Is it only acknowledgment, like the demonic, or is it demonstrative? The easiest way to begin is by connecting your faith to straightforward action. Here is a list of seven actions you could take to connect your faith with action. Choose one. Commit to doing it, and let's demonstrate authentic faith to those around us. 1. Serve Someone Look for an opportunity to help someone in need, whether a neighbor, coworker, or stranger. It could be as simple as lending a listening ear, sharing a meal, or helping with a task they can't handle alone. Faith in action serves others selflessly. 2. Speak Life Be intentional with your words. Encourage someone who might be struggling or share a Scripture that has impacted you recently. Let your speech reflect the hope and truth of Christ. 3. Step into Obedience Identify one area where God has been calling you to obedience. Maybe it's forgiving someone, confessing sin, or starting a new habit like daily prayer. Take the first step today, trusting that God's strength will carry you through. 4. Practice Generosity Give something tangible—a financial gift, your time, or resources—to someone or an organization that could use it. Generosity demonstrates trust in God's provision and care for others. 5. Reflect God's Love at Home Sometimes, the most challenging place to live out our faith is with those closest to us. Show patience, kindness, or humility to your spouse, children, or roommates. Let your actions match your faith in Christ's transforming love. 6. Commit to Growth Spend intentional time with God by studying Scripture and praying daily. Then, look for ways to share what you learn with others, making your spiritual growth an encouragement to their faith. 7. Stand for Truth When faced with a situation that challenges your values or beliefs, respond with grace and boldness. Share your faith when opportunities arise, trusting God to use your witness. #FaithInAction, #LivingFaith, #WalkTheTalk ASK THIS: How does your life demonstrate the evidence of your faith? What actions reveal your trust in Christ today? In what ways can you connect faith to service this week? Are there areas where your faith feels more belief than action?

In this episode of "Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski," retired FBI Special Agent and Hidden Killers Daily contributor Jennifer Coffindaffer discusses the ongoing trial of Karen Read. Coffindaffer highlights the impactful testimony of Kerry Roberts, a family friend of the O'Keefe's, who recalled Karen Read calling her at 5 AM to say "John is dead" before they went to find him, which suggests pre-existing knowledge of John's death. The defense chose not to cross-examine Roberts, possibly to avoid reiterating her damaging testimony. Coffindaffer also discusses the significant text messages between Karen Read and Brian Higgins, which reveal motives and Read's unhappiness in her relationship. These messages, introduced to establish motive, were particularly troubling for Read's defense. Coffindaffer notes that while these texts contribute to the murder charge, the demonstrative evidence from the car will be crucial in proving whether it was intentional. She remains undecided about whether the second-degree murder charge will be proven, emphasizing the difference between evidence presented in court and a jury's verdict. Main Points - Kerry Roberts' testimony was impactful, especially her 5 AM call from Karen Read saying "John is dead." - The defense did not cross-examine Kerry Roberts, likely to avoid reinforcing her testimony. - Significant text messages between Karen Read and Brian Higgins reveal Read's motives and dissatisfaction in her relationship. - These text messages are crucial for establishing motive in the murder charge. - Demonstrative evidence from the car will be key in proving whether the act was intentional. - Jennifer Coffindaffer remains undecided about the second-degree murder charge, emphasizing the difference between court evidence and jury verdicts. #KarenRead #JenniferCoffindaffer #KerryRoberts #JohnOKeefe #BrianHiggins #HiddenKillersPodcast #MurderTrial Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Demonstrative pronouns, like English words “this” and “that,” point at something. They're often used as adjectives, as in, “this book” or “that tree.” In English, demonstrative pronouns take a different form in the plural: “this” becomes “these,” and “that” becomes “those” ─ making them one of the few English adjective forms which are different in the singular and plural. Though they are at heart adjectives, because they so often stand alone, it's almost better to consider them pronouns. For those of us that need a refresher, a pronoun is a part of speech. It's usually a small word which represents and stands in place of a noun, for instance, “We were looking for a new house to buy and we found it.” “It” represents and stands in place of the “new house.” Pronouns are some of the most useful forms in language. They allow us not to have to repeat a noun every time we want to mention it. Demonstratives can function as pronouns as well as adjectives. So, for instance, you can say: “Let's move there. That's a good idea.” In the second sentence the demonstrative form “that” functions as a pronoun, because it represents and stands in place of the idea of moving “there.” So demonstratives can serve as either adjectives when they modify a noun, or pronouns when they stand alone. Here's one idea expressed both ways: “I like that thing,” where “that” is an adjective modifying “thing” ─ or you can just say, “I like that,” in which case “that” is a pronoun representing and standing in place of “that thing.” If you haven't seen this already for yourself, another way to look at this pronoun usage is that the demonstrative pronoun is serving as a substantive, as I'm sure you remember it being an adjective which functions as a noun. And do you remember where Latin substantives get their substance? That's right, from their gender. English pronouns are the only place where there's anything corresponding to that practice in our language. Our pronouns are, in fact, archaic forms retaining grammatical information which our nouns and adjectives have long lost, for instance: gender: “he,” “she,” “it”; number: “I” vs. “we,” “you” vs. “y'all,” “he, she, or it” vs. “they”; and even … case: “he” is nominative, “his” is genitive, “him” is accusative; “she” is nominative, “her” is genitive and accusative; “it” is nominative and accusative, “its” genitive. There's a fascinating detail here. Notice that “he” has an accusative form “him,” “she” has an accusative form “her,” but “it” does not have a distinctive accusative form. “It” serves as both the nominative and accusative, and that's because neuter nominatives and accusatives are always the same. Just like Latin, English is an Indo-European language, so it inherited the same tendencies Latin did. And that's why English doesn't have a special neuter accusative form! Singular Plural hic, haec, hoc; hi, hae, haec; huius, huius, huius; horum, harum, horum; huic, huic, huic; his, his, his; hunc, hanc, hoc; hos, has, haec; hōc, hac, hōc. his, his, his. Closely related to but meaning the opposite of hic is ille, illa, illud, meaning “that” or “those.” As a pronoun, it shares many features with hic.: Singular Plural ille, illa, illud; illi, illae, illa; illius, illius, illius; illorum, illarum, illorum illi, illi, illi; illis, illis, illis; illum, illam, illud; illos, illas, illa; illo, illā, illo illis, illis, illis. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/liam-connerly/support
Mary Arden, a beloved Hoffman Process teacher and coach, taught the Process for nearly 30 years. In this spirited and delightful conversation with Drew, Mary shares her experience taking the Process, teaching the Process, and working directly with Bob Hoffman. She also, lovingly, shares her experience of being with her beloved partner, Jim, while he was alive and now after his passing. Mary bridges Earth and Spirit as she speaks of her life, relationships, and work to help facilitate wellness and healing in people so that our world can know this profound and practical relationship between the two, between Earth and Spirit. One of Mary's profound experiences during her own Process was feeling deeply rooted in the Earth. The work she did there brought her into her own body and a direct embodied relationship with Earth. Mary also shares that the Process teaches us "that there is a whole realm that is a spiritual realm and we get to be in that by choosing." From an early age, Mary learned that we are here to be of service. Her older sister had an intellectual disability. (Mary uses the term, mentally retarded, which was the predominant term used in Mary's early years as a child in the 1940s.) She shares how very different things were then and how remarkable her parents were in their response to how to raise Mary's sister, during this time. Her parents' response had a direct impact on Mary and her life. Those of us who know Mary, and truly all who have taken the Process since Mary started teaching and working to help shape the Process into what it is today, have deeply benefited from her dedication to serving her students and this beautiful relationship between Life and Spirit. We hope you enjoy this conversation with Mary and Drew. More about Mary Arden: Mary Amrita Arden holds a Bachelor's degree in Humanities, a certificate in Secondary Education, and a Master's degree in public health. She is also a certified Neuro-Lingustic Programming coach. Mary taught the Hoffman Process from 1991 to 2019. She once shared that what was most meaningful for her about teaching the Hoffman Process was "facilitating people to a healthy way of holding their life – listening to their inner wisdom, finding strength in their essence/spirit, learning true self-compassion, and living a fulfilling life of connection, love, and presence." In Mary's own words, what she got from taking the Process was "a deep sense of my essential worthiness, separate from any role or achievement, and a way to live passionately with an open heart, connected to spirit.” Mary is now retired and lives in California.

Singular Plural hic, haec, hoc; hi, hae, haec; huius, huius, huius; horum, harum, horum; huic, huic, huic; his, his, his; hunc, hanc, hoc; hos, has, haec; hōc, hac, hōc. his, his, his. Singular Plural ille, illa, illud; illi, illae, illa; illius, illius, illius; illorum, illarum, illorum illi, illi, illi; illis, illis, illis; illum, illam, illud; illos, illas, illa; illo, illā, illo illis, illis, illis. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/liam-connerly/support

Real Talking Tips 45 completes the 4-part Power of Persuasion series. In episodes 42-44, we constructed the 3 pillars of persuasion: Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. Now we're going to dig a little deeper into Aristotle's Treatise on Rhetoric where he defined the available means of persuasion into three additional categories: Judicial, Demonstrative, and Deliberate. Because it's about the FUTURE, we're going to focus on Deliberative Rhetoric, where: Logos: Provides information for your audience to think. Pathos: Encourages your audience to feel. Ethos: Establishes why your audience should trust you. Then, I'm going to give you the Elaine Clark Real Talking Tips guide to using rhetoric as a powerful persuasive speaking tool.

James warns against DEAD faith, DEMONIC faith and calls us to a DEMONSTRATIVE faith. Claiming belief in Jesus Christ without affection and submission is demonic. Your faith is alive, spiritual, and active when it is exercised on behalf of others. www.mercycommons.church
