Douglas Petrie, writer and producer of some of our favorite shows including Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Pushing Daisies, American Horror Story and Marvel’s Daredevil joins the show to discuss what it meant to him to have a bar mitzvah at 50 years old, reading between the lines in torah, and why exploring our past is a necessary aspect of building our future.
The next Akira Kurosawa film is probably his best-known — and certainly most-imitated — film: SEVEN SAMURAI (1954). We both really enjoyed this (one more predictably so than the other); after some general discussions of community feeling and individuality, we get more specific about the social hierarchies of the film, dive into Kurosawa's cinematography once more, and end with a good, old-fashioned nerd-off. Next Week's Film DODES'KA-DEN (1970): Kurosawa's first film in colour. Jessica, Luke Danny and Matt finally sit down for a catch up and we discuss it all in our The Defenders Episode Four Review of Royal Dragon is out now with our top five points about this episode in our Spoiler filled discussion. As always make sure you've watched the episode before listening to the podcast. The Defenders Episode Four Review Podcast Spoiler filled Synopsis Written by: Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez Directed by Phil Abraham From boardroom table to banqueting table Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Danny Rand (Finn Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) hide out in the Royal Dragon after their battle at Midland Circle Financial. Matt, trying to escape his life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, is distrustful of the new allies. Jessica talks him into revealing his identity to the others. Danny proposes that to take down the Hand they should all work together but the others turn down the offer. Chaste leader Stick (Scott Glenn) tracks the group to their location and reveals that New York will be lost if they don’t band together. Jessica calls herself out as she just wants to solve her case. As the case gets weirder she pays a visit to the architect's wife and finds that she’s under The Hand’s observation. Meanwhile Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver) persuades the final leader of the Hand, Murakami (Yutaka Takeuchi), to her cause. She tracks the Defenders to their shitty excuse for a hideout and crashes the party bringing the Black Sky (Elodie Yung) to a stand-off with the new team. As they face off against each other Jessica crashes the party as only Jessica knows how. Thanks so much for listening to our Defenders Episode Four Review Podcast. Bottom Line: Now this is how to cap-off a season, 10 out of 10 Punisher logos Season Bottom Line: The beginning under par compared to Season 1 but then it reached full throttle. 9 out of 10 "who or what the hell is Betsy??!!" But this opening shot is just ridiculous - for minutes Foggy not looking where he takes his next steps, I would fall to the ground quickly - and the writers if Daredevil knew added the water problems like in Flint to she show with Rosie's water - the lone many surviving the massacre, looks like a poor man's Christian Slater - Turk, the arms dealer from last season is out already? Din't the FBI catch him during the classical musical montage at the end of Season 1? - Shane really isn't very clinical with all his shots missing his target in the hospital - Karen's car...wait did she take Wesley's after she shot him? - better choice for Daredevil and Shane meeting earlier, for me season 1 finale with Daredevil confronting Fisk at the end was the weakest fight and weakest episode Bottom line: okay season opener, 7 out of 10 ~bang bang, he shot me down, bang bang I hit the ground~ (Kill Bill Vol. 1 opening track) OUTRO [58:43] Haley, Lauren and Stargate Pioneer love to hear back from you about your top 5 Marvel character lists, your science of Marvel questions, who would you pick in an all-female Avenger team, or who’s Marvel abs you would like to see. They target the people saved by Daredevil, including Karen Page, to draw them out. As Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Natchios learn of the plan they make a pact to stay together after defeating the Hand with Murdock agreeing to leave New York with Elektra, but as they free the hostages the trap for Daredevil is exposed. Nobu arrives to lead the roof-top battle for possession of the Black Sky, but it ends in sacrifice as Elektra is killed protecting Daredevil and the man inside. An enraged Daredevil, with unexpected help from The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), takes on the remaining ninjas and Nobu, throwing Nobu (Peter Shinkoda) from the roof where he is topped off by Stick (Scott Glenn). As Natchios is mourned and laid to rest by Murdock and Stick more changes take place in New York: Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) accepts the offer from Hogarth's firm, Frank Castle takes a CD labelled "Micro" to begin his journey as The Punisher and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) is also confronted with an unexpected truth as Matt Murdoch reveals his secret identity. Elsewhere in New York, a new beginning unfolds as the Hand recovers Elektra's body so she may fulfill her destiny! Spoiler filled Synopsis for Daredevil S02E12 The Dark At The End Of The Tunnel Podcast Directed by: Euros Lyn Written by: Douglas Petrie and Lauren Schmidt Stick (Scott Glenn) is saved from Elektra's (Elodie Yung) wrath by Daredevil but is abducted by the Hand after they crash their battle forcing the threesome to fight for one another. However, their brief alliance does not last as Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) vows to find Stick, while Natchios vows to kill him and anyone who gets in her way. As Daredevil goes underground to save his old friend and mentor, Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) follows a new story to profile Frank Castle's (Jon Bernthal) previous life and character as a research journalist at the New York Bulletin. As she seeks to uncover Castle's background she goes to his former commander in Afghanistan, Colonel Ray Schoonover (Clancy Brown), to find out more about Frank's background only to be confronted with a sickening reality that he is The Blacksmith. Elsewhere in the abandoned tunnels of New York Daredevil's rescue of Stick reveals the missing link in Nobu's and Stick's pursuit of Elektra Natchios as her true darkness is revealed to be the Black Sky. As Schoonover takes Karen out in to the local woods to execute her an ambush by Castle turns the tables on The Blacksmith who is in turn executed - One Bullet, One Kill - and a new identity for Frank Castle is created in the candy store of The Punisher's Armory! Legends of S.H.I.E.L.D.: An Unofficial Marvel Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fan Podcast
Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is now officially on the home stretch with this week’s discussion of the 11th episode of Daredevil’s first season “The Path Of The Righteous.” This time the agents are joined once again by intern Agent Ferris, who is still waiting for his lanyard. There is also mention of Agents Lauren and Haley being available for story ideas, casting and scripting for both Marvel AND the BBC. And as always the hosts also take time to discuss the week in Marvel news and review all the awesome Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. feedback. This Time On Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: [01:54] Welcome Ferris back to the podcast! Ant-Man Marvel Crate Giveaway Daredevil: The Path Of The Righteous The weekly Marvel News YOUR feedback!!!! Welcome Ferris back to the Podcast [02:08] Intern Agent Ferris re-joins the agents to help discuss Daredevil "The Path Of The Righteous." Ant-Man Giveaway [02:40] The hosts discuss their Marvel Ant-Man Crate Give-Away. Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix episode "The Path Of The Righteous" [03:26] Following last Daredevil’s stationary couch episode, the Daredevil season 1 run to the finale starts with a slow crawl. Right up to the unexpected and fantastic final moments. The Agents run down where the episode should be placed on their favorite scale for the season as well as question the quality of the season’s acting. They wonder where and when Karen learned her small firearms skills, marvel at Wesley’s dialogue, and just why you should use “hiking rules” while super-villaining. All the Agents love the re-visit with the priest and what he reveals. And the Agents discuss just why and how both Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk love the city. Intern Agent Ferris ranks the Daredevil series in the Marvel Cinematic/Television Universe. Agent Lauren decides if Welsey is such a bad guy after all. The lady Agents love Matt’s shirtless scene…again. And Ferris brings up who’s really got more game with the ladies, Matt or Foggy. Daredevil “The Path of the Righteous” Written By: Steven S. And she brought him a monkey balloon. Does it have an EasterEgg? Really must suck for the Kingpin sitting there, waiting...helpless with Vanessa being treated for. "Yeah, a bunch of one-percenters jerking each other off." That line had to be from Steven S. DeKnight. :D Really conflicted if I should be happy for Kingpin, if Vanessa survives, or not. Matt really should be careful not to beat him up too much, so he can make him the new costume. It would have been more surprising, if Fisk's men would have come after Urich and not Karen Page. Really bad timing from Fisk to call Wesley. Tense scene from him with Karen. Happy to see that Karen could tell the difference if a gun is loaded or not. For a bit I had the theory that Wesley could be the mastermind behind Fisk and tried to turn him on the Path of the Righteous, by getting Vanessa out of the picture. Well, with him dead this is now mute. With John the Iron Fist and Irene the unbreakable Cage away defending, the remaining Defenders, Chris and Derek, take up the mic to chat all about the penultimate episode of Daredevil The Ones We Leave Behind. This episode was again written by Douglas Petrie and directed by Euros Lyn. Reeling from recent events Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll rather than Wolf as we say in the episode sorry!) has difficulty sleeping and turns to the bottle leading to an encounter with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio). Meanwhile Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) recovers in hospital from the attack at Fisk's benefit and Fisk commits to make those responsible pay. The masked vigilante begins his investigation into heroin distribution in Hell's Kitchen and destroys Madame Gao's (Wai Ching Ho) plot operation only to learn that she has abilities he wasn't expecting. Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall) begins his exposé of Wilson Fisk but gets fired from The Bulletin. Unfortunately for the reporter a former colleague turns on him revealing his intended story to the unnerved Fisk.
