POPULARITY
What if the most important business introduction of your life happened in a middle seat at 30,000 feet? In this episode, Carrie Waible, founder of CW and Co., shares a career that reads like a map of New York City's most iconic moments. Star-studded galas, Nobu's 20th anniversary, Donna Summer and John Legend at the Beacon Theater, Robert De Niro's charity events, and a 20-year client relationship that started with a phone call she almost said no to. None of it would have happened without a stranger on a plane named Stan Heath, a first boss named Tony who saw something in her before she did, and a client named Thomas who told a 26-year-old she should start her own company. She did. Twenty years later she is still at it and still evolving. [00:04:00] What She Does and Who She Serves Runs CW and Co., a full service marketing and production company Started in 2004 producing nonprofit galas and celebrity events in New York Has worked with some clients for 10 to 20 years [00:05:00] From Events to Full Service Marketing Was churning out 12 major events a year with a team burning out A dear team member said she didn't want this to be her life Started shifting toward full service marketing and content production [00:07:30] The Client Who Gave Her the Best Advice An old client named Charlie took her to lunch when she first started out He told her: keep putting yourself in front of people and do a good job He also said at 26: lean into your PR talents; that's what will carry you She didn't fully hear it until years later when the pivot became necessary [00:10:30] What Inspires Her: People Gets her energy entirely from people; not one cup of coffee a day Feels most present when directing videos, producing events, or in the field If she is connecting with people and doing meaningful work, she feels amazing [00:11:30] Client Impact: Nobu and a Charter School Network Helped Nobu transition from a 190-seat Tribeca restaurant to a global brand without losing its heart Helped nonprofits raise what adds up to billions of dollars over the years Spoke at a charter school career day; a student asked what inspires her; she said: you do [00:19:00] The Relationship That Started Everything: Stan Heath Was flying to New York to visit friends after graduating college Got into conversation with a stranger named Stan Heath in the middle seat He said PR was her fit; his ex-business partner Tony was hiring Stan faxed her resume; she had a meeting that same weekend [00:21:30] Tony: The First Boss Who Changed Her Life Tony offered her the job after watching her work a fashion industry event He needed to see how she moved before making the offer New York clicked immediately; she has never left That first job eventually led her back to PR and to starting her own company [00:23:00] Thomas: The Client Who Told Her to Start Her Own Business A former client told her: anywhere you go, people will just ask for Carrie Waible anyway Within weeks he offered her a live event six weeks from his nonprofit's biggest fundraiser She started the company at 26 to take on that first event That night on the event floor confirmed she had found where she belonged [00:25:30] Cathy: The Referral That Led to Robert De Niro A past client named Cathy called to pass on a piece of business she couldn't take She was stern: my reputation is on the line too; I need to know you're ready The event was a star-studded benefit at the Beacon Theater with Donna Summer and John Legend The after party was at Nobu; that relationship kept growing for five to six years [00:28:30] Raven: The 20-Year Client Relationship Her first VP at her first New York job called when Carrie started her agency Asked her to do PR for the New York Boat Show; Carrie almost said no That one job opened the door to recreational boating, now one of her biggest business streams The National Marine Manufacturers Association has been a client for 20 years [00:31:30] Venice 2021: The Trip That Cracked Everything Open Was invited to manage VIPs and heads of state at a humanitarian event in Venice Went alone with only a local assistant; no team, no safety net Realized she didn't need a multimillion-dollar agency; she needed to love the work every day From that moment she began more fully embodying her gifts and what she really wanted [00:34:30] Final Word: Just Connect People find relationship building daunting; just extend a smile, a word, a handshake Trust your gut about who feels right; the spidey sense gets sharper over time Those small connections build into things you could never have imagined KEY QUOTES "Keep putting yourself in front of people and do a good job, because no one ever wants to change who they're working with if they don't have to." - Charlie, as shared by Carrie Waible "I get my energy from people. Not one cup of coffee." - Carrie Waible "You have nothing to lose. Those things build and build into something that you just could never imagine." - Carrie Waible CONNECT WITH CARRIE WAIBLE Website: https://www.cwandco.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/carrie-waible-658b972 Thanks for tuning in!
The squad tries to figure out if 18-year-old Melvin is truly in love or if he's about to be "sold for parts" by an international student in San Francisco his family claims is a Chinese spy. Between the relationship intervention, the crew roasts Kevin Durant for pulling a "Homer Simpson" and hiding behind a bush at Nobu to escape the paparazzi with a mystery girl. [Edited by @iamdyre
Lukujonossa aloitamme Taro Nogizakan sarjan Natsume Arata no kekkon, jossa sosiaalityöntekijä menee vankilanaimisiin murhista tuomitun naisen kanssa selvittääkseen tämän mysteerin. --- Kommentoi | Bluesky | Mastodon | X | Threads | Instagram --- (01:25) – KUULUMISET: DESUCON – Desucon 2026:n ohjelmakartta – Ohjelmamme Tytöille vai pojille? David's officially 40, and Terry is here to remind him (repeatedly) — with a birthday week that won't quit, a BBQ for 35 people, and a very expensive catering quote that gets binned in favour of “the lads on the grill” and spicy margaritas on tap. They recap their adults-only Marbella trip: The Met hotel, beach shack prawn pil pil, Nobu, two-drinks-and-done drunkenness, and the infamous A4 photo that may or may not have got them rejected from the “club vibe” area. Plus: Terry turning German when she's drunk, David's new 40s do's and don'ts, Crocs-gate, and a listener dilemma about being asked to be a bridesmaid after a 10-year fallout.
Look. We had topics. We chose chaos instead. And honestly? Yes.This is the episode where we decided the world was a shit show, the news was too much, and we were just gonna see what happened. What happened was: an AITA about a girlfriend who thinks she's already a stepmother to twins she didn't carry, a man approached Joyhdae at a work event with very large plans and very questionable energy (Nobu might still happen — we'll see), Trump beefing with the Pope, the Secretary of Defense accidentally reading the Pulp Fiction monologue as scripture, Euphoria being back and somehow no one's fully invested, Justin Bieber making Coachella history, Michaela Coel being criminally underrated, Nia Long being fine for all eternity, and a debate about eel liquor in London that nobody asked for.Oh. And the jokes. This is what happens when the plan goes out the window and the vibe takes over.⸻If you've ever looked at the news, looked at your phone, looked at the ceiling, and said “you know what, I just need to talk to somebody” — this episode was made for you... The foodservice business is a very tough industry to succeed in. So what does it take to have a successful restaurant? In this episode, Mosh sits down with restaurateur Drew Nieporent--who helped build iconic restaurants like Nobu and Tribeca Grill--to discuss Drew's new book, I'm Not Trying To Be Difficult: Stories from the Restaurant Trenches. Drew traces his path from working at McDonald's to opening 40 restaurants, explaining why most restaurants fail and how successful ones create experiences that bring people back for more. Plus, we dive into the history and changing trends of the industry: how Nobu brought sushi to the mainstream in the 1990s, what social media and delivery apps have meant for the restaurant business, and how you can get the best experience the next time you go dining out. Mosheh Oinounou (@mosheh) is an Emmy and Murrow award-winning journalist. He has 20 years of experience at networks including Fox News, Bloomberg Television and CBS News, where he was the executive producer of the CBS Evening News and launched the network's 24 hour news channel. If you regularly dined out in New York City over the last 40 years, you've probably eaten at one of Drew Nieporent's restaurants. He opened nearly 40 of them, mostly in New York. His most well-known restaurant is, of course, Nobu, the restaurant that started the global sushi franchise. However, earlier on, there was Montrachet, a groundbreaking spot in Tribeca that maintained its three-star rating from The New York Times for 21 years. That restaurant location later opened as Bâtard, earning three stars from The Times and two from the Michelin Guide. Then there's Tribeca Grill, which, like Nobu, he opened with partner Robert De Niro, as well as the chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Drew recently looked back on his long and storied career in his book, I'm Not Trying to Be Difficult: Stories from the Restaurant Trenches, which he wrote with food writer Jamie Feldmar. Just as in his book, Drew is candid in his discussion with guest host Gloria Dawson, which touches on everything from the role of the restaurateur to why most reviews no longer matter much and what to look for in a business partner.
Legendary restaurateur Drew Nieporent (Nobu, Montrachet, Tribeca Grill, et. al) discusses his memoir I'm Not Trying to Be Difficult and opines on the state of the industry in a no-holds-barred and free-ranging conversation recorded over lunch at Nobu in Lower Manhattan.Huge thanks to Andrew Talks to Chefs' presenting sponsor, meez, the recipe operating software for culinary professionals.

Kenny and Pete break down the CFB Playoff and the latest NFL matchups. This week is filled with tangents.
Jeffrey Epstein used fine dining not just for pleasure, but as a weapon of influence. His presence in elite restaurants like Le Cirque, Nobu, and Cipriani wasn't about the food — it was about power. These venues served as neutral ground where billionaires, academics, and politicians could meet under the guise of sophistication. Epstein was known to host private dinners with figures such as Tim Zagat, the co-founder of Zagat Guide, and other Manhattan socialites years after his sex-offender conviction. At these tables, deals were discussed, introductions were made, and reputations were rehabilitated. To the outside world, it looked like civility and charm; in reality, it was grooming at scale — the construction of credibility through proximity. Every dinner, every photo, every handshake was another layer of legitimacy wrapped in luxury linen. The restaurant world also quietly enabled his image. Owners of trendy Hamptons and Manhattan establishments seated him like any other VIP, despite his notoriety. The owner of 75 Main in Southampton later admitted Epstein had a standing reservation — a table that was literally burned after his crimes were exposed. Behind the scenes, his private chef, Adam Perry Lang — a celebrated restaurateur connected to Hollywood's elite — cooked for Epstein's guests at both his Manhattan townhouse and his private island. These culinary connections weren't incidental; they were part of the camouflage. Fine dining gave Epstein access, privacy, and respectability. In the world of five-star meals and champagne toasts, he wasn't a predator — he was just another “important man.” And that's exactly how he kept his network alive.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.
Join the OverSeasoned crew as we dive into the gray area between culinary inspiration and straight-up recipe theft. From Sarasota shrimp cocktails that feel a little TOO familiar to a restaurant boldly serving “Nobu's” new style sashimi that Nobu himself wouldn't recognize... we unpack where homage ends and imitation begins. (It's the sincerest form of flattery, right?) These are our hot takes on respect, ownership, and why putting another chef's name on your menu might just be a terrible idea.

John welcomes Drew Nieporent, the celebrated owner-operator behind Nobu, Tribeca Grill, and Montrachet, to discuss his new memoir, “I'm Not Trying To Be Difficult: Stories From the Restaurant Trenches.” Nieporent describes his role in transforming the stuffy, fussy, French-focused fine dining culture of New York in the 1970s into the dynamic, freewheeling, scene-driven atmosphere that took hold in the late 1980s; how his fabled partnership with Robert De Niro and Nobuyuki Matsuhisa spawned a globe-spanning culinary empire, but not before his partners cut him out of the business; and how, although the restaurant industry managed to survive Covid, it was changed forever (and not for the better) by the pandemic. In this episode, I talk about if the Tom Sachs Mars Yard 3.0 in-app challenge release was made exclusively for the unemployed. I also talk a lot about recent sneaker releases and give an update on 2JsKicks having champagne wishes and caviar dreams at Nobu. I also warn sneakerheads to be wary whenever a company declares itself a “sneaker culture company”. Finally I talk about some recent sneaker content creator blues, and if you've been providing enough value for the brands lately (no, you have not, straighten up will ya). A lot of show, a lot of fun, all killer, no filler!New socks are also available in very limited quantities: https://shop.sockjig.com/Timestamps00:00 Intro02:41 New Sockjig Socks Available Now04:17 On Feet: Off White Presto05:32 Pickups: adidas Orion Terry Fox 45th Anniversary07:23 Patta Air Max 90 Waves07:44 JJJJound Asics Gel Quantum 36008:20 JJJJound Puma Mostro09:07 AMM AF1 & AM9510:48 Levi's Air Max 95s Release Recap14:13 Who Decides War Jordan Flight Court15:28 Air Jordan 4016:45 Paris Fashion Week: JFG 200017:16 Get Clint to Debut Your Sneaker17:39 Does a Kids of Immigrants FNF Sneaker Make Sense?19:30 Adidas Jellyfish20:52 Clipse Sambas23:13 Kith New Balance 204L23:50 Abc x Fantastic Four x Puma27:50 Premium Goods Air Max 1 for the NYC Mayor29:15 Tom Sachs is Keeping The Mars Yard Lore Intact37:47 TwoJsKicks Update40:11 Brendan Dunne to StockX47:41 Sneaker Content Creator Blues53:55 Outro
We share the sad news that Ozzy Osbourne passed away Tuesday morning. Dawn fell for a Simpsons hoax. We try to figure out why Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Garner are hanging out at Nobu. We've been on the road - working, teaching, sweating (a lot), and soaking up every second of it. From coast to coast, we've had the honor of coaching high-performing, purpose-driven leaders and inspiring them to fuel their bodies well and train for longevity. But as always, they end up inspiring us just as much. This week, we're sharing a behind-the-scenes look at a recent trip to New York, including a serendipitous moment that landed us at the Tribeca Film Festival to see a documentary about world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa. From not knowing who he was to sitting in his restaurant just hours later, Liz shares the unexpected lessons Nobu taught her about success, passion, and staying in the game - no matter your age. We also talk about Liz and Lee's philosophy on longevity (hint: it starts earlier than you think), how success comes when you're living your passion, and why it's never too late to do what you love. Resources mentioned: Nobu Documentary - Tribeca Film Festival Hilliard Studio Method Some key takeaways from this episode include: Longevity doesn't start at 70. It starts now - with strength, intention, and purpose. Success doesn't have a deadline. Nobu found global fame later in life because he never stopped doing what lit him up - proof that doing what you love is the real win. If your passion's gone, it's time to pivot. Whether you're 30 or 80, it's never too late to follow what lights you up. Be Powerful with Liz & Lee, formerly Hilliard Studio Podcast, is focused on helping you find your inner power and for us to share our thoughts on society, culture, and current events. As the team behind Hilliard Studio Method in Charlotte, North Carolina, we love all things wellness and will also share info on how to live your healthiest life mentally, physically, and emotionally. Liz Hilliard is an author, motivational speaker, personal & group trainer, podcast co-host and owner & creator of Hilliard Studio Method (HSM) – an internationally-renowned, core-centric, Pilates-based workout that uses the latest techniques to get the heart rate pumping and sweat dripping – uses “Be Powerful” as a daily mantra to empower and encourage women of all generations and fitness levels to accept themselves as they are and keep moving. Lee Kennelly is the second half of the podcast and the Director of Training at Hilliard Studio Method. She is happy to be living life unabashedly with Liz and adores her teenage children who have probably never listened to the podcast! Lee is passionate about movement and teaching and loves being on the sports fields watching her children, making her line of Love Sauce salads, or going out to dinner for date night with Liz. While behind the mic and on the screen aren't necessarily her comfort zone, she loves podcasting with Liz and has enjoyed the opportunity to share her story with the hope of inspiring others to live more joyfully.
