Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia.   Today is Saturday, June 24  Get your tickets now for Mountain Stage's first show in Clarksburg…a Princeton couple tours all 55 counties in Almost Heaven…and the Advantage Valley is taking flight--literally--with an influx of aviation programs…on today's daily304. #1 – From WBOY– Mountain Stage is coming to Clarksburg for the first time in its nearly 40-year-old history this August  The show is set for 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center and will feature Tony Trischka's EarlJam, Jason Carter Band, The Watson Twins and others. The show is hosted by Kathy Mattea and broadcast to more than 280 radio stations across the world. Visit www.mountainstage.org for ticketing information. Read more: https://www.wboy.com/news/harrison/the-mountain-stage-music-show-is-coming-to-clarksburg-for-the-first-time/?&es_id=3e24fb2bf4    #2 – From THE REAL WV – Four years ago, Jim & Judy Holland took a drive. They had extra time and wanted to explore after doing some work on their house. They drove through several counties in southern West Virginia that day. Mesmerized by what they saw in their own backyard, they decided, “Let's visit every county in the state!”  Their plan was simple: 1) Visit every county, 2) take a picture of each courthouse & 3) visit an attraction at each stop. Most of the time, they made day trips in order to be back home each night and ready for the next day. Judy created a map which guided their adventures. Every time they visited a county, she colored it in to show their progress. And after taking their first trip in September 2019, they completed their mission by visiting their 55th county (Jefferson) in May 2023.  The couple recommended their favorite local eats as well as scenic places to visit.  “This state is beautiful! Before you spend a penny, spend time here in your own state,” Judy Holland said. “Lost River State Park in Hardy County is an amazing hike. Cranny Crow Overlook allows you to see Virginia and West Virginia at one spot. I also recommend Valley Falls in Marion County. It's absolutely gorgeous.” Read more: https://therealwv.com/2023/06/15/princeton-couple-visits-all-55-counties-in-west-virginia/   #3 – From LIVABILITY – The aerospace/aviation sector is taking flight in Advantage Valley as the region creates more forward-thinking jobs for the up-and-coming workforce. Companies in this Huntington-Charleston metro area comprise a critical link in West Virginia's aviation and aerospace supply chain that includes suppliers such as Constellium, Star Technologies, Level 1 Fasteners, Oerlikon Metco and Carbon Fiber Composites. These companies are producing brackets and precision clamping devices for jet engines, creating solutions to increase engine fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, and specialty fasteners, including studs, screws, nuts and bolts for the aerospace industry. “We have a cluster of companies that support the aerospace/aviation sector, and that's a growing aspect of our economy,” says Terrell Ellis, executive director of Advantage Valley, the economic development organization working to grow and create jobs in the nine-county region.  “We have roughly two times the national average of workers in those clusters with the skills to produce component parts for the aviation sector,” Ellis says. “Aviation/ aerospace is a growing sector for us.” Read more: https://livability.com/wv/charleston/education-careers-opportunity/advantage-valley-wv-is-ready-for-take-off/   Find these stories and more at wv.gov/daily304. [02.47] Fastenal’s comprehensive COVID-19 response – which became far more than simply delivering PPE. “The problem became much more than just the availability of an item.” [07.37] How the COVID crisis has taught us why it’s so important to have trusted supply chain partners in place before a crisis happens. “Our evolution is hinged on relationship-building, and the management of those relationships.” [12.00] What Fastenal’s on-site model looks like and how it changes to meet customer needs. [17.44] How Fastenal’s local presence and decentralized decision making helped to keep customers afloat during the COVID crisis. “Their success is what drives ours.” [23.19] A closer look at Fastenal’s ‘last mile’ system and why they do it differently. [28.55] How we can future-proof our supply chains. “Supplier integration, tighter partnerships – those are the key to future-proofing supply chain.” [31.10] The future of supply chain and how Fastenal is well positioned to help facilitate it.   RESOURCES AND LINKS MENTIONED: Head over to Fastenal’s website now to find out more and discover how they could help you too. [16.21] The benefits that come from Fastenal’s decentralized model. “A local team knows their customer really well.” [19.12] A closer look at Fastenal’s local approach: how it works, the ethos behind it and the benefits. [21.49] How Fastenal responded to the COVID crisis, and its commitment to customers. [28.30] From Government to Universities, the variety of businesses Fastenal works with. “The ideal customer for us is someone who’s willing to look at the ideas we bring to the table, and change the way they’ve been doing things.” [32.07] How visibility and partnerships are the future of supply chain.   RESOURCES AND LINKS MENTIONED: Head over to Fastenal’s website now to find out more and discover how they could help you too. "In retrospect, of course, I didn't realize it then when he said, ‘Son, I don't give positions. I give opportunities. We'll see what you can do.’ But you know, now I sit here as the owner of the company, some 30 years later, and I've worked every position getting up to here, so I know how the company runs." ~Jim Henderson Faith and fasteners may not seem like an obvious fit. For Jim Henderson, president of Dynamic Sales Company, Inc out of St. Louis, his beliefs and his business couldn’t be more compatible. Jim shares his levelheaded business advice as well as some refreshingly honest insight into the role religion plays in his Christian-based company. “The four points of our star logo are service, quality, commitment, and integrity. And those all line up with those principles that we gather from our faith.” Jim isn’t shy about his relationship with God. His religion is a tool for creating opportunities and maintaining an inclusive, successful family-run company.  From tithing on behalf of the company to incorporating two scripture passages into the Dynamic logo, Jim’s spiritual values are woven throughout the fabric of his life.  The value of deep connections informs Jim’s recruiting style as well. He’s a master at finding the right people for the right positions through seemingly unconventional relationships, finding candidates in unlikely places: a car dealership and a newspaper route. “One of the things I try to find is what my brother and I used to term a servant's heart, someone's who is willing to serve the customer and put the customer's needs before their own.” Jim still uses traditional resources like LinkedIn and Indeed but he’s always on the lookout in his day-to-day interactions for fresh, forward-thinking talent.  *** Distribution Talk is produced by The Distribution Team, a consulting services firm dedicated to helping wholesale distribution clients remove barriers to profitability, generate wealth and achieve personal goals.    http://www.distributionteam.com This episode was edited & mixed by The Creative Impostor Studios. Connect with Jason on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jasonbader/ Connect with Jim on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jim-henderson-83280312/ *** The value Jim places on service and relationship-building is also evident when he speaks about STAFDA, the trade organization his father helped start. He’s baffled by members who pay their dues but sit on the sidelines. “Being able to use my network - and I have used that from coast to coast, North, South, East and West - and being able to connect with people,” he says, “they're always willing to help a fellow STAFDA member out.”  Likewise, Jim’s commitment to customer service has seen the industrial sector of Dynamic’s business grow considerably. That success is a credit to his expertise at pursuing relationships as avenues for growth, making sales calls instead of micro-managing from behind a desk. “I work on the big picture stuff,” he laughs. “I don't worry about the minutia of everything. That's handled by everybody here and I just focus on customers and I enjoy it.” If you’re interested in the scriptures Jim quotes, they are John 14:6 and Matthew 6:33. He also mentions the following books: Business By The Book by Larry Burkett and Talk The Walk: How To Be Right Without Being Insufferable by Steve Brown.

When anti-NATO protesters from around the world arrive in Chicago to cause havoc, the Fully Threaded boys naturally think of anti-corrosive fastener materials. Mark Alperin and Mark Klosek, of Vertex Distribution, share their knowledge of the stainless fastener business, as well as a unique training technique that could be considered positively tasteless (56:45). Mike McNulty opens the Fastener News Report by pointing out that while the fastener business might not be as exciting as the recent social media IPO mania, at least it doesn’t operate in a soon to burst bubble. Then, he speaks to Rosa Hearn, of Brighton Best International, about the huge expansion program now under way by the master-importing giant (39:20). Pacific Warehouse Sales partner, Kelly Lehman, demonstrates this principle on the golf course, during the 3rd annual Mel Kirsner Memorial Golf Tournament (25:16). Then, NFDA Spring Conference attendees, including incoming president, Jay Queenin, along with Don Haggerty, Robbie Gilchrist, and others, discuss their thoughts on this year's hugely successful event and the direction of the organization (77:29). Also, FTI editor, Mike McNulty, and Holden Lewis present the April FDI survey results, and focus on the numbers and what they mean for fastener distributors (41:43).
