Apparently we're in our Freezer Girl Era now – – and yes, I know I'm a boy. But this trend?I'm fully on board. It's about filling your freezer with little things that make weeknight cooking feel like you actually have your life together. This isn't bulk meal prep. This is freezer magic – a stash of flavour bombs and shortcuts that save you mid-week.Here's what's in my current rotation: Flavoured butters: mix butter with garlic and herbs, or miso and sesame oil, ortruffle and parmesan. Roll into a log, freeze, and slice off coins as needed. Pesto ice cubes: blitz wilting herbs with oil and garlic, freeze in trays. Add to pasta, soups, sandwiches – boom. Rice balls: leftover rice + soy + sesame = freezer patties you can pan-fry from frozen. Wine cubes: splash of red or white to rescue a bland dinner. You're welcome. Cookie dough blobs: bake one, freeze ten. Smug levels: high.Stock your freezer like you're feeding your future self – or just buying yourself five quietminutes.- Simon Hosted on Acast. When you put the word 'French' in front of other words (like 'sex' or 'kissing' or 'fries') magic happens. But when. you put it in front of the sentence 'victory in their home Moto GP for the first time in history' things go to a whole other level. Johann Zarco became an instant national hero when he made history as the first French rider to win the premiere class at Le Mans and the team at The Greatest Motorcycling Podcast in the Universe are here for all of it. Boris, Tug and Freido are joined by special in studio guest Pete Vorst of Compass Expeditions as they break down one of the most memorable race wins in years. There's also Boris' poem (an ode to Zarco), Freido's horoscope (also about Zarco...there's a pattern emerging here) and the 'Simone Flatterson Man Boobs and Grid Girl Critique' (which isn't about Zarco but is still magnificent) and the rest of the puerile nonsense you've come to expect from these three reprobates. Hit the play button and enjoy the gloriousness of it. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry and it it will make you irresistably attractive to the opposite sex. You've been warned.

Here's the thing about the Indian carbonated beverage market – for decades now it has been a two, sometimes three horse race dominated by everyone's favourite black coloured colas. Pepsi, Coca Cola and Thums Up. But in the last year or so, a 160-ml bottle of cumin-flavoured soda has managed to do what very few bottled beverages could. It has challenged the Indian beverage industry's holy trifecta – the Coca-Cola-Pepsi-Parle Agro trio. The crazy thing is, this isn't some massive global brand that has just entered the Indian market. It's a seven year old desi brand launched by three cousins in Punjab that was largely unknown until about a year ago. We are talking about Lahori Zeera. Tune in. A Twist in the Tail: How the Humble Anchovy Flavoured Western Cuisine (Hurst, 2024) by Christopher Beckman takes readers on a tantalising voyage through European and American gastronomic history, following the trail of a small but mighty fish: the anchovy. Whether in ubiquitous Roman garum, mass-produced British condiments, elaborate French haute cuisine or modern Spanish tapas, anchovies have been enhancing the flavour of many dishes for thousands of years. Yet, depending upon the time and place—and who was eating them—they have also been disdained as worthless little fish, deemed too small, bony and inconsequential for popular or elite consumption. From Western Europe to the USA, Beckman shows how the evolving and ambiguous position of anchovies provides surprising insights into the relationship between food, class and status throughout history. Drawing on cookbooks, literature and art, this is the hidden story of the diminutive anchovy, and its outsized role in shaping the West's cuisine. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. This week is all about Montreal, Canada and the French-influenced culture just North of the Border. We tagged along on our friend Patrick's (see Episode 66 for more info) vacation and were transported into Europe when we were met by Old Montreal's historic architecture. We were in for quite the twist when we found an underground city with 20 miles of shops, restaurants, transit - a fully functioning metropolis below ground! Our food experience, though, was rather dysfunctional. From Labor Day closings to charred kebabs and cold steak, we kept in the Skiptown tradition of rollercoaster restaurant adventures. Still, being among top sites like Notre-Dame Basilica, Mont Royal, Olympic Park, Old Port and SO MANY charming neighborhoods, we LOVED Montreal's vibrant, cosmopolitan flair. We're suckers for the European culture that lives just a few hours from Upstate New York and a return trip is already in the works... who's joining us in June, 2024? We're going to be dropping an "Ask a Local" Episode for Montreal on our YouTube Channel soon. Check it out! If there is one thing we love on CheapShow, it's the Charity Shop Showcase. It's the part of the show where we can spend a little more cash and show off something weird or wonderful. This week Eli has found something Pirates of the Caribbean shaped, and Paul has a Kenny Everett annual from 1981. Which will join the “showcase” and which will end up in “no place”? There is also a rather curious challenge ahead for the Cheap Chaps. They've been sent a range of Dr Peppers, each with an unusual flavour twist. Can Eli differentiate between the many variations, or does it all taste the bloody same? To make things a bit spicier, Paul is well up for a fight this week, which Eli finds unnecessary!
