Organizers have announced the National Garlic Festival and Food Expo, planned for May 13th-15th at the Fresno Fairgrounds. Organizers hope to break the world record for attendance, currently at 109k attendees in Gilroy, stating that Fresno is the true Garlic Capital of the US. Sheriff Mims has announced her retirement. At a press conference in Del Mar, Gov. Newsom introduced several new bills aimed at increasing gun control in CA, including allowing individuals and the AG to sue firearm manufacturers and sellers, prohibiting the marketing of certain categories of weapons to children and tightening ghost gun restrictions. The ever-popular Japan Pavilion filled the HKTDC Food Expo 2019 with delicacies from around 270 exhibitors. The HKTDC spoke to Takuro Wanami (JETRO) about this year's product offerings, and Hong Kong’s business advantages as the largest market for Japanese food exports.
"We are showcasing what is locally grown in California" says Nancy Alatorre of the USA's Center for International Trade Development (CITD). Golden State exports like wine, nuts and sundried tomatoes had plenty of show time at the HKTDC Food Expo 2019. Ms Alatorre describes the event as a direct doorway to the ripe markets of Southeast Asia.
The HKTDC Food Expo was among five concurrent fairs opening on 15 August 2019 – and with large and new international exhibitor pavilions. Hong Kong’s Food Expo is a “special” venue for Japanese products says JETRO’s Takuro Wanami, while Poland’s Aleksandra Fórmaniak describes the event as the newest and biggest food promotion in the country’s history. Nancy Alatorre from the US says Hong Kong is the “perfect venue” for showing California’s products in Asia.

Record numbers of Japanese exhibitors attended the HKTDC Food Expo 2017 while nearly half a million public visitors attended the Expo and concurrent events. New pavilions at the Food Expo were from countries including the Czech Republic, India, Kazakhstan and Thailand, offering the best of national and regional cuisines. With over 1,500 exhibitors, the Food Expo included major global buyers and featured insightful seminars and inspiring cooking demonstrations.
On the heels of a recent Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Thailand’s Office of SMEs Promotion (OSMEP), a stronger presence of Thai traders was seen at the 28th edition of the HKTDC Food Expo in August 2017. Items that promote a green and healthy lifestyle were prominent at concurrent fairs in August 2016 in Hong Kong. Your menu is one of your most important tools in sales and marketing. We also look at one of the great tools you can use in costing your menu. We've looked at this in the past, if you haven't costed your menu yet, this is the easiest way to do it.
Some of the world’s most nutritional food products have featured at the HKTDC Food Expo 2015, says Gloria Tsang, an internationally-recognised nutritionist and author of three best-selling books on healthy foods. She says it is important for consumers to study a product’s ingredients list and pick natural or organic foods. She says the “food of the year” is coconut, with ingredients being sold by many vendors at the fair.
