Tune in as Vanessa Ondi (Best Week Ever Podcast) jumps back into her guest seat for a discussion on The Wedding Planner, the 2001 rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez as a diligent wedding planner whose latest gig sees her contending with a cheater, a stalker, a statue's broken schlong, and other sorts of shenanigans. Steve being a douchebag (albeit one who's relatively more bearable compared to the absolute vat of toxic sludge that Matthew McConaughey plays in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), a jarring usage of the R-slur in this fluffy rom-com, and the truth of those brown M&Ms comprise a few of the talking points for this episode. Directed by Adam Shankman, The Wedding Planner stars Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey, Justin Chambers, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Judy Greer, Alex Rocco, Frances Bay, Lou Myers, Joanna Gleason, Charles Kimbrough, Kathy Najimy, Kevin Pollak, Fred Willard, and Bree Turner. “How do you not kill the guy on the toilet?” - Eric On the season 14 finale of We Hate Movies, the gang welcomes actor/comedian/podcaster/author/movie-lover and all-around good guy, Paul Scheer to the show to chat about the sleepy, yet kinda crazy monster movie, Arachnophobia! Why isn't this movie just about John Goodman's exterminator character? Why couldn't the major spider at the end be a huge, dumb puppet monster? How funny is it that this movie doesn't care about those kid characters at all? Why couldn't we see that dumb sheriff eat shit on-screen? Why would you uproot your whole family without being absolutely certain you have that job, Jeff Daniels? And you better believe we're marveling at all the Seinfeld alums in this! PLUS: Just watch Shatner in Kingdom of the Spiders instead of this. Arachnophobia stars Jeff Daniels, Harley Jane Kozak, Julian Sands, Stuart Pankin, Brian McNamara, Mark L. Taylor, Henry Jones, Peter Jason, James Handy, Roy Brocksmith, Kathy Kinney, Mary Carver, Frances Bay, and John Goodman as Delbert McClintok; directed by Frank Marshall. When Judy is quite taken by a visiting solicitor's amulet, the price for trying it on is Frances Bay cosplay. But when Donald's quick thinking gets Judy back in her body, an arbitrary passage of time turns their dream world into a nightmare. Why does Pasadena love milk so much? What establishment is missing from the modern train station? Should there be more rules involved in body swapping? Plot: Top Five Trivia of the movie: Top 5 Trivia When Bob Barker was later asked to come on board with the project, he agreed to do so with two stipulations — that writers would re-work the scene to allow Barker to beat Gilmore in a fight … and that the “Price is Right” star could shoot his own fight scenes rather than have a body double. Barker had been training with his neighbor, Chuck Norris, and wanted to show off his skills.Although Christopher McDonald has become synonymous with Shooter McGavin, he was not the first choice for the role. Producers were hoping that Kevin Costner would play the part but he was interested in making “Tin Cup.” McDonald almost turned down the role of McGavin as well because he was trying to break of the stereotype of playing villains. After meeting Adam Sandler and realizing how funny the film would be, he agreed to the role. McDonald has since said it was one of the very best moves of his career.Happy was loosely based on a childhood friend of Sandler's named Kyle McDonough. They grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire, and would sometimes play golf—but Sandler could never outdrive his buddy, which he attributed to McDonough's extensive background playing hockey. McDonough went on to play in the East Coast Hockey League, the British Hockey League, and a league in Norway. He remains friends with Sandler to this day. He's hard to recognize under all of that hair, but Otto the homeless caddy was none other than Allen Covert, Sandler's longtime friend and Happy Madison Productions collaborator who played the title role in the cult comedy Grandma's Boy ten years later. Covert's IMDb page is full of Sandler projects, starting with 1989's Going Overboard, followed by Airheads, Happy Gilmore, Bulletproof, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Never Been Kissed, Big Daddy, Little Nicky, Mr. Deeds, and on, and on...The Happy Gilmore score was composed by the frontman for new wave art rockers Devo, who had huge hits in the early days of MTV with "Whip It" and their cover of The Rolling Stones "Satisfaction." Like Oingo Boingo's Danny Elfman, Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh has found tremendous success as a composer, working on kid TV shows like Rugrats, the famous "Get a Mac" commercials, several Wes Anderson films, and more recently, 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie, and one of our favorite scores, Thor: Ragnarok. Almost 20 years after Happy Gilmore, Mothersbaugh composed the music for Adam Sandler's Hotel Transylvania, at the urging of his then young kids. **TRIPLE LINDY AWARD** **REVIEW AND RATING** TOP 5Stephen:1 Breakfast club2 T23 Sandlot4 Back to the Future5 Mail order brides Chris:1. sandlots2. Happy October, nerds. To honor this, our spookiest month, we’re gonna be checking out a unique horror film every week. This week we're joined by my lovely wife to discuss John Carpenter's OTHER horror classic, 1994's In The Mouth of Madness! Our sweet Sam Neill stars as an ultra-rational insurance fraud detective in the most accurate tribute to H.P. Lovecraft you'll ever see on film. We're chewing the scenery, talkin' behind the scenes details, and marveling at the longevity of Frances Bay. As a bonus, check out that total Metallica rip-off that Carpenter composed for the theme. It rules. We're also talking adventures at Austin City Limits Fest seeing Guns N' Roses, The Cure, and some child named Billy Eyelash. Bro, do you even read Sutter Cane? Back then, it was always in some terrible contraption that led to mixed results (either disgusting or undrinkable), but it was fun. We always loved beer (how could we not?), and after some serious thought and a little hands-on brewery experience, we made the leap. We packed up our stuff and moved to Austin in 2008 to open our brewery. In 2010, Circle Brewing Co. was founded by childhood friends, Ben Sabel and Judson Mulherin. We began with little money and an over-abundance of passion. With some help from our friends and family, we pooled the money to retain a lease and start construction on the brewery in March of that year. After a long and grueling buildout, a few equipment delays, and a peppering of a little good and a little bad luck, we brewed our first batch of beer on December 9th, 2010, our ENVY Amber. https://www.circlebrewing.com/ Jason Jepson: Paradigm Shifter – Coffee Trailblazer – Certified 80’s Movie Buff – Beer Evangelist – Wanna Be Pizza Ninja I am father to one beautiful baby girl, proud creator of Talking During Movies, and a delighted Austinite. The Grifters (1990) is a well-written neo-noir that comes with a stellar performance from Anjelica Huston and a hearty endorsement from Matt’s mom. It’s a movie that gets richer with every viewing and boasts a veritable who’s who of 90’s character actors. Stephen Tobolowsky!, Frances Bay! Pat Hingle! They’re all here.
