On this weeks episode we chat to writer and director Nadine Crocker about her latest feature film Desperation Road starring Academy Award Winner Mel Gibson (Braveheart), Garrett Hedlund (TRON: Legacy), and Willa Fitzgerald (Scream: The TV Series) and how she shot the movie in 16 days! Nadine talks with Dom Lenoir about her first movie 'Continue', how she wore all the hats, raised the money, bought on Uber producer Cassian Elwes, went from acting to directing and how it felt like a film school. She also dives into how she made her second written and directed feature Desperation Road, how she got her high profile cast attached and getting the movies made. We also talk about: Real life trauma, creating thread and working on the script. Casting, depth and pitching to Mel Gibson. Staying present and why you need to know your shit. Why a director is only as good as their collaborators. Being over prepared, knowing answers and why she doesn't show her 'look-book' of images and ideas to her crew before they have pitched. And Nadine give you some amazing advice on being a filmmaker. WATCH trailer for Desperation Road here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CV69aYkzl8 COURSES Want to learn how to finish your film? For 10-15 years people have been talking about how there's no good country music anymore: the radio is all pop, all the best music is from decades past, etc. To be fair, there was always good country music being made, but there was less and you had to look harder for it. But that doesn't hold water anymore. There is so much good REAL country music these days readily available on the radio, streaming, live shows, etc. So Andrew and Sean begin to lay out an argument for us currently living in the greatest era of country music. From OG's like Alan Jackson still kickin' it, to newcomers like Emily Nenni, to Garret Hedlund making a strong comeback into country music.
We might not be as tough as these guys, but we know a little bit about being 4 brothers. John Singleton directs Mark Wahlbeg, Garret Hedlund, Tyrese Gibson, Andre 3000, Terrence Howard, Sofia Vergara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Josh Charles, Fionnula Flanagan, and Taraji P. Henson in this tale of brotherhood and revenge. There’s so much under the surface of this film, another thoughtful, subversive movie from JC Chandor, that just happens to also be a giant 100M plus action film with Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam, Oscar Isaac, Garret Hedlund and Pedro Pascal. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dan-benamor/support
Denzel Washington, Justin Timberlake and the creepiest dude in Los Angeles. Intro, Chris is back! Cold in the Pittsburgh area. That's cold. Grayson is still in Wilmington, NC, not New York, Chris. Fisher Stevens 1:14:25 - THE LITTLE THINGS, Dir John Lee Hancock. Palmer (Apple TV+) Apple TV has really been steeping up it's game lately. Palmer is absolutely a credit to that service. Palmer (Timberlake) is just recently released from prison of 12 years and returns to his Grandmother's house to try and live a normal life. His Neighbor Sam (Ryder Allen) is a gender confused boy from a broken home with a junkie for a mom (Juno Tempe). Palmer differs from the normal "pull at your heart strings" story of this nature. It's incredibly real and v very emotional. Not a family film by any means BUT will absolutely leave you smiling in the end. (8/10) The Little Things (HBOMax) Denzel Washington is Joe "Deke" Deacon- A man troubled by secrets from his past. Rami Malek is Jim Baxter, a Young and hungry detective. Both men are pulled into a hunt for a serial killer terrorizing an entire city. Akin to "Seven," "Kiss the Girls" and "Zodiak" The Little Things pairs the older, wiser cop with the younger, more eager cop, each with a very different approach. Deacon's constant focus on the little things of a case before extremely important, as the title would suggest. If you aren't wrestling with your own morality by the end, somehting is wrong.
