Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common condition defined as chronic, excessive worry for at least 6 months that causes distress or impairment, and is hard to control. It is in part a diagnosis of exclusion: physical examination and laboratory studies are generally normal if no co-existing physical or mental health conditions or substance misuse issues exist. Treatment is primarily with psychotherapy (usually cognitive behavioural therapy), serotonergic antidepressants or a combination of these approaches. In this episode, Dr Roger Henderson looks at how best to diagnose GAD, what treatment options should be considered, possible differential diagnoses and the long-term outlook for patients.Access episode show notes containing key references and take-home points at: https://gpnotebook.com/en-GB/podcasts/mental-health/ep-125-generalised-anxiety-disorder.Did you know? In this enlightening episode of the Purpose podcast, we delve into the complexities of neurodiversity in the workplace with guest Shamus Hart, a UX consultant and passionate advocate for neurodivergent individuals. Shamus shares his personal experiences, busts common myths, and provides valuable insights into the social model of disability and the unique strengths neurodivergent individuals bring to the table. Join us as we explore the nuances of neurodiversity, discuss the challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals in traditional work environments, and uncover how companies can create more inclusive and supportive workplaces that celebrate and leverage the talents of all employees. Key Points Discussed: Neurodiversity: It's about the natural variation in how people's brains work, encompassing conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, etc. It's not a trend or a label to be adopted lightly; it's about recognising and valuing neurological differences. Many neurodivergent individuals possess unique strengths and talents that can benefit the workplace. Busting Myths: Invisible disabilities are real disabilities and should be recognised as such. Not all neurodivergent individuals have savant skills. Neurodiversity is not linked to psychopathy or sociopathy. Self-diagnosis is often a valid first step, especially given long wait times for formal assessments. The Social Model of Disability: Society creates barriers for people with disabilities, not the individual's condition itself. Workplaces can often be disabling for neurodivergent individuals due to factors like sensory overload. Simple and affordable accommodations can make a big difference. Generalist vs. Specialist Mindset: Neurotypical individuals tend to have a more generalised skill set, while neurodivergent individuals often excel in specific areas (spiky skill set). Workplaces should recognise and leverage the strengths of neurodivergent individuals. The Spectrum of Neurodiversity: Neurodivergent conditions are not a matter of being "a little bit more or a little bit less." It's about a mix of hyper- and hypo-sensitivities, leading to unique strengths and challenges. Differences in Empathy: Neurodivergent individuals may have different empathy profiles compared to neurotypicals. They may struggle with cognitive empathy (perspective-taking) but excel in affective empathy (feeling with others) and empathetic concern (taking action to help). Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of understanding and valuing neurodiversity in the workplace. By recognising the unique strengths and challenges of neurodivergent individuals, we can create more inclusive and supportive environments where everyone can thrive. Trust is down, worldwide. In India, Iran, Indonesia and Nigeria, less than 15% say that ‘most people can be trusted'. What's going on? I suggest several likely mechanisms: 1) Generalised distrust is correlated with strong family bonds 2) Poorer countries have rapidly urbanised at a lower level of income 3) Rule of law varies worldwide 4) Political contestation and growing polarisation 5) Online connectivity has boomed, and is increasingly negative My Substack has graphs, data and further resources: https://www.ggd.world/p/whats-driving-the-global-decline

Do I have generalised anxiety disorder? Generalised anxiety disorder is a psychological condition, which affects around 3% of all people, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. But it seems to affect certain groups disproportionately. For example, women are twice as likely to be affected as men. Furthermore, less than half of people with GAD receive treatment. Over the last decade the stigma that once existed around mental illness has decreased significantly. This is largely due to increased awareness of the prevalence of mental illness, media campaigns and prominent public figures sharing their experience with various mental health disorders. However, even as people find understanding and support for their illness, they are also subject to a host of unhelpful and stigmatizing attitudes about medication. These include: the implication that they're just not trying hard enough to overcome their condition,  the recommendation that all they need is a certain diet, or exercise, or meditation,  the assumption that the cure for their condition is as simple as taking a pill. In the context of HA and ED recovery it is important to remember that eating disorders are often comorbid with other mental health conditions such as: Anxiety disorders (Generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder etc etc) Depression Obsessive Compulsive Disorder PTSD Substance use disorders Therefore this topic is very relevant to our audience and clientele - which is why we wanted to address it! In this episode we discuss: Why is there still a stigma around the use of medication? The influence of pop-culture jokes on medication use and misrepresentation in films and TV How the lack of cultural conversation can keep the stigma of medication alive The association between taking medication and being "labelled" Misinformation about alternative or 'natural' approaches   3 main reasons why medication may be important for you during HA or ED recovery. ❤️ Join my newsletter list for weekly motivation and inspiration and you'll also receive a FREE copy of my eBook "31 Ways to Boost Your Body Image" ❤️ Ready to get your period back? Join the next round of Healing Hypothalamic Amenorrhea! In this episode, I speak with my friend Lucy Puttergill - a transformational coach and breathwork facilitator - about her transition from banking and her journey of inner healing. Lucy spent 9 years working on the trading floor at Citi then J.P. Morgan and now supports overachievers to break free of limiting narratives, do the inner work and create lasting and real change in their lives. We discuss how much focus we put on fixing the external things (ie not enjoying our job, relationships, environment) instead of taking it as a cue to go inwards and assess our belief systems and early traumas that are playing out and which we are being called to heal. This is NOT a podcast telling you to quit your job and your life, buy a van and a surfboard and live on the beach (unless you want to) but instead act as invitation to take ownership of your internal landscape and see yourself as your own best healer so that you can live a fulfilling and joyful life, anytime, anywhere. Also in this episode: - The isolating reality of perfectionism and how connecting to our shadows and flaws is a catalyst for deeper acceptance and authentic relationship to self and others - Looking at how we uniquely define success - Ways in which we seek external validation - Reconnecting to creativity as a mechanism for self-exploration - Generalised anxiety and depression as a clue for collective as well as individual healing - Dismantling our belief systems and subconscious programs created by childhood experiences and early traumas to liberate us in adulthood - Being our own best healer and mustering the courage to make big leaps in our life Books & Podcasts mentioned in this episode: "Creativity, Chemistry and Claiming your Joy" by Glennon Doyle 'We can do the hard things' "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz, "The Untethered Soul" by Michael A. Singer and "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle You can connect with Lucy @Lucy_puttergill for all her daily wisdom and details on working with her.

« L'amour s'adresse à notre part d'inconnu, explique le psychanalyste Patrick Lambouley.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆https://linktr.ee/jacksonlibon---------------------------------------------------#facebook #instagram #amour #couple #couplegoals #famille #relation #doudou #youtube #twitter #tiktok #love #reeĺs #shorts #instagood #follow #like #ouy #oyu #babyshark #lilnasx #girl #happybirthday #movie #olive #garden #menu #deviance #autotrader #trading #khan #academy #carter #carguru #ancestry #accords #abc #news #bts #cbs #huru bluebook #socialmedia #whatsapp #music #google #photography #memes #marketing #india #followforfollowback #likeforlikes #a #insta #fashion #k #trending #digitalmarketing #covid #o #snapchat #socialmediamarketing #bhfyp

Charlie Moores in conversation with  Dr Alex Lees, Senior Lecturer in Conservation Biology at Manchester Metropolitan University. Recently Alex and Dr Jack Shutt published a paper that was widely reported in the mainstream media titled “Killing with kindness: Does widespread generalised provisioning of wildlife help or hinder biodiversity conservation efforts?”  That's quite a striking headline, isn't it? Providing for wildlife may be harming species of conservation concern. The abstract of this paper is even more thought-provoking, “Generalised provisioning is enthusiastically promoted by many conservation organisations as a means to foster connection with nature and help wildlife. However, such a vast input of additional resources into the environment must have diverse, ecosystem-wide consequences….Using a case study of UK garden bird food and nestbox provisioning, we hypothesise how well-intentioned provisioning could be contributing to widespread ecological community change and homogenisation. This may consequently help drive declines in species of conservation concern by asymmetrically benefitting common and adaptable species, leaving their competitors exposed to enhanced direct competition, hyperpredation, mesopredator release and heightened disease transmission risks.”In very simple terms, then, the paper is asking whether providing wildlife with extra resources like food and nesting sites could be having a negative impact on some declining species – which, if you feed your garden birds like I do, is – well, food for thought…Biological Conservation Sept 2021  Killing with kindness: Does widespread generalised provisioning of wildlife help or hinder biodiversity conservation efforts? Clinical utilisation of the Infant Monitor of vocal Production (IMP) for early identification of communication impairment in young infants at-risk of cerebral palsy: a prospective cohort studyR Ward, N Hennessey, E Barty, C Elliott, J Valentine & R Cantle MooreABSTRACTAim: To report prospective longitudinal data of early vocalisations of infants identified “at-risk” of cerebral palsy (CP) for early identification of communication impairment.Method: This case-control longitudinal prospective cohort study reports on the assessment of 36 infants, 18 identified as at-risk of CP at the time of enrolment and 18 typically developing (TD) children, at three time points: 6 months, 9 months and 12 months of age, Data were obtained through criterion and norm referenced assessments of vocalisation behaviours. Results: Early vocal behaviours of infants identified as at-risk of CP did not differ from their age matched peers at 6 months of age, however, significant group differences emerged at 9 and 12 months when pre-canonical and canonical babble typically emerge. Generalised linear mixed models analysis showed that the rate of development of early language ability and more complex speech-related vocal behaviours was slower for infants at risk of CP when compared to TD infants, with over 75% of infants with CP showing below normal vocal production and impaired language by 12 months of age.Interpretation: Our data suggest characteristics of infant vocalisations associated with pre-canonical and canonical babbling provide a strong evidence base for predicting communication outcomes in infants at risk of CP.https://doi.org/10.1080/17518423.2021.1942280

On this episode I am joined by guitarist Daniel Baune of British metal band Monument and he also has his own album Lost Sanctuary coming out soon. We address dealing with panic attacks, performance anxiety and reframing mistakes on stage, the perils of toxic positivity and the need to feel the feelings. There's a large chunk of geeking out over guitar and talking about expressive players and his influences and our love of the likes of Arch Enemy and In Flames. It's peppered with perspectives and musings on topics such as the recipe of making it in metal, exploring the darker concepts of suffering for your art, nihilism, relying on substances for stage fright, romanticising pain, groupies and external validation. It's a little longer because we just enjoyed chatting so much and hopefully you enjoy listening to it :) http://bit.ly/dan_baune-s_lost_sanctuary_lost_sanctuary Photo - Karoline Hanna
