Prehospital Emergency Care Podcast Small-batch: Paramedic Education Requirements "A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone if it is to keep its edge." ~Tyrion Lannister, Game of Thrones     More paramedic education is always beneficial.  But should a secondary degree be mandated for paramedicine?  How much education should EMS providers be required to attain?  How would this initiative be supported?  Some say yes to required further education while others defer (see bibliography below).   What are we to do?  Hmm... To address this very topic, our fellow podcaster and friend Ginger Locke @gingerlockeATX of the @medicmindset podcast along with Hillary Gates @gateshil of @EMSWorldNews helped record an engaging discussion at the NAEMSP 2019 Conference  with Dr. Ed Racht @ed_racht, Dr. David Tan @papatan911, Dr. Pickett @DrJRPickett, THE Mike McEvoy @mcevoymike, Dr. Brandon Bleess @BBBleess, Dr. Scott Bourn and Dr. Hawnwan Moy of the @pecpodcast. The Thinking Series is where Ginger Locke talks with some of the sharpest minds in Emergency Medicine about how they think through chief complaints. In this episode, one of the country’s few flight doctors, Dr. Cynthia Griffin, shares how she sorts through patients with the chief complaint of agitation. She works both in-hospital and out-of-hospital, so her perspective is truly unique. What you will quickly hear is that she is relatable, smart, and happy to share what she knows with medics because she was one for many years before becoming an Emergency Medicine doctor. She makes a point to describe how she actually leans into the patients who are the most salty because she knows, like all of us, we can be biased when confronted with the agitated patient.
