WE'VE GOT A NEW GTCC KIT! With the fourth season well underway, we spoke to our friends at Bioracer and decided it was time for a fresh look. Head to www.gtccstore.com to pre-order our new orange GTCC jersey - but be quick! The pre-order window closes on Friday 10th November. And now... on with the pod. Could Jasper Philipsen be the fastest man we've ever had in the GTCC? That's hard to say, but one thing is for certain: the Belgian was by far and away the quickest man at this year's Tour de France. Four stage wins, a comfortable green jersey win, and the world knew that the nickname 'Jasper Disaster' was a thing of the past. With Tom away, G rung up our old mate and Watts Occurring ambassador Laurens de Plus to make his GTCC debut, and get you all the inside scoop on his compatriot who is taking the sprint world by storm. They discussed leadouts from Mathieu van der Poel, a podium place at Paris-Roubaix, and winning on the Champs-Elysees. Meanwhile, we have PLAYED OUR FIRST LIVE SHOW! The Tour de France arrives on the Champs-Élysées for the most prestigious sprint stage in cycling. Sir Brad and Graham Willgoss were hoping for a bit of history from Mark Cavendish, but instead saw a thrilling finish in the heart of Paris and a third stage victory of the race for Wout van Aert. “I don't think anyone would deny Van Aert,” says Brad. “What he's done this race is truly exceptional. He's won a mountain stage over the Ventoux, he's won a time trial and he's won a Champs-Élysées sprint stage. The kid is on another level in terms of his all-round ability.”And what about the resurgence of Mark Cavendish, who finished third on the day, the comeback story of the Tour?“I was disappointed for Cav,” says Brad. “I know he's an absolute winner and he'll be gutted with today. That was the one he wanted to win the most. But let's look at what he's come away with: equalling the record of Eddy Merckx, four stage wins and he's taken the Green Jersey 10 years after he last won it.“It's nice that he's up there with Eddy Merckx… Sometimes things are best left as they are.”It's Tokyo next for Van Aert. Can he carry his form into the Olympics? “Wout is the best rider in the world at the moment,” says Brad. “And the most versatile. The guy is phenomenal. I have huge respect for him. He's now the favourite for the road race – he has to be. And I'd love to see him win it.”Brad, too, will be aboard the next flight to Japan with Podcast Pete. There's no unity in the peloton.”Brad also gives co-host Graham Willgoss a crash course in crash tactics from his 2012 playbook, and questions whether there is unrest in the Team Ineos camp.Break, or bunch sprint? That was the question on a stage where the big question was whether Mark Cavendish would surpass Eddy Merckx's record of 34 stage victories.“It doesn't work out every day,” says Brad. “The team has done quite a big job to get him to this point and the racing's frantic. It's not always as easy as just making it become a sprint when you've got the whole race against you, which I think he has, reading between the lines. It's very difficult. Everyone will know it was the last-chance saloon for a lot of people today, so it was always going to be difficult to control and martial it.” So, where does that leave Cav? “The record is still on,” says Brad. “He's got the Green Jersey sewn up.” Brought to you by Zwift, where fun is fast. The Bradley Wiggins Show is produced by Pete Burton. Stage 18 of the Tour de France saw a second dominant victory for Tadej Pogačar in the clouds of the Pyrenees, on the summit finish of Luz Ardiden – where Sir Brad and Graham Willgoss are marooned in a traffic jam for their latest look back at the day's racing. Did a short and sharp stage – just short of 130km with two HC climbs – play into the champion elect's hands? “He didn't really have to blow his rivals away, he just did the last bit,” says Brad on Pogačar's supremacy. “They could have done with another climb in there really, instead of having 60-70km on the flat beforehand. “Stages like that, with climbs like that, almost need another two climbs in there to make it a proper Pyrenean stage. It lends itself to everyone being fresh at the end.”Questions, too, for Ineos, still empty-handed at this Tour. We saw the familiar Ineos (/Sky) mountain train of old going full gas on the final climb, but that just meant Pogacar willingly climbed aboard. “Is it worth doing that knowing they were going to get beat in the end? There was no way they were going to crack him.”Brad says it would have been a very different Tour had G and Roglic not crashed. But as things stand, Pogačar not only holds the Maillot Jaune but also the Young Rider's and Polka Dot Jerseys. But not the Points Jersey. Full of praise for Mark Cavendish's Deceuninck – Quick-Step team for guiding the Green Jersey through the mountains, Brad says his old friend is in the perfect position to make history with two more flat stages to come. Stage 15 of the Tour de France was another brutal affair, ending in a brilliant breakaway victory for Jumbo-Visma's Sepp Kuss. Sir Brad and Bernie Eisel look back on an epic day of racing in the Pyrenees in the company of Graham Willgoss. But is Kuss too nice to be a killer on the bicycle? Brad thinks so. Bernie's not so sure: "Riders, when they put their cycling shoes on, put their helmet on, they're absolutely a different person," he says. "Trying to be that leader, and delivering at the moment it's expected? Chapeau." In what could have been a big day for the GC shake-up, Brad says Ineos played into Tadej Pogacar's hands: "They did the job UAE should have been doing, but they don't have the leader to match him and finish it off. They have to change tactics. I'd have liked to have seen G and Richie Porte in the break, and see how that panned out.”There is no doubt who will be happiest heading into the rest day. Especially with the mountain tests ahead – with or without back-up.“Pogacar has the solo ability to do what he likes,” says Brad. “Whereas I really relied on my teammates.” Brad and Bernie agree that, for Mark Cavendish, the Green Jersey is coming home – and more stage wins could well be on their way for the Manx Missile.“Cav's got through the worst of it now, he's going to be fine,” says Brad. “I think we could see him take two more stages, with Paris.”Brought to you by Zwift, where fun is fast. The Bradley Wiggins Show is produced by Pete Burton. Today Brad is all on his lonesome but that doesn't mean he's anything less than 100% committed when it comes to analysing another intriguing stage of the Tour de France. Stage 12 saw 22-year-old Marc Hirschi emerge victorious at the third attempt in this year's race. For Brad Hirschi "rides with the confidence of someone who has been a professional for ten years" and he doesn't think the rising star is finished yet.As well as Brad's musings on Hirschi's victory we also hear from Fabian Cancellara, who Brad calls one of the best time-trialists of his generation, as he spoke to Eurosport's Orla Chennaoui after the stage. At the age of 39 Cancellara has seen it all in cycling and he knows that there will be bad days ahead for his young team-mate. However, Thursday evening is not one of them and Cancellara was full of praise for the work his young colleague has put in as well as his positive attitude. As Cancellara says today Hirschi's "life has changed because he won a Tour de France stage during his first time competing in the race."There's also just enough time to touch on Peter Sagan picking up a few points to narrow the gap in the race for the Green Jersey before Brad looks forward Stage 13 on Friday and he is predicting some fireworks in the GC. And as a little bonus treat Orla caught up with another rising superstar, Great Britain's Tom Pidcock, after he won the baby Giro. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

His story (personal and business) is very inspiring, and his earlier book (Burn Zones) is one for the ages - and most definitely highly recommended. He's an entrepreneur at heart, has failed and come back, and went on to bigger things, all to the benefit of not only himself and his investors, but primarily to the cause. And what a cause it is indeed. I'm looking forward to have an updated conversation with Jorge soon, but in the meantime, enjoy my conversation with him, now nearly 2 years ago. From his bio: Jorge P. Newbery is a successful entrepreneur, distressed debt and real estate investor, endurance athlete, and author. He turned around some of the country's most troubled housing complexes in amassing a portfolio of 4,000 apartments across the USA from 1992 - 2005. However, a natural disaster triggered a financial collapse in which he lost everything and emerged over $26 million in debt. He never filed bankruptcy. Instead he developed strategies to gain leverage over creditors to settle debts at huge discounts, or simply did not pay them at all. He is a veteran of dozens of court battles, once fighting a creditor to the Missouri Court of Appeals. The entire debt (over $5,800,000) was inadvertently extinguished due to sloppy legal work. As an athlete, Newbery raced bicycles for a living from 1986 - 1990 as a Category 1. He competed in the 1988 Olympic Trials and was 4th in the Spenco 500, a nonstop 500-mile bike race televised on ESPN. He also raced for the Costa Rican National Team in the Tour of Mexico, was 2nd in the 1987 Southern California State Championship Road Race, plus held the Green Jersey in the 1987 Vulcan Tour. Newbery also runs and has completed over 70 marathons and ultramarathons. In 2012, he was the overall winner of the Chicago Lakefront 50K. At 46-years-old, he was double the age of the 24-year-old second-place finisher. Today, Newbery helps others crushed by unaffordable debts rebuild their lives. Jorge is Founder and CEO of American Homeowner Preservation (AHP), a socially responsible hedge fund which purchases nonperforming mortgages from banks at big discounts, then shares the discounts with families to settle their mortgages at terms many borrowers find "too good to be true." Jorge's response to the nation's mortgage crisis creates meaningful social and financial returns for investors, while keeping families in their homes. AHP's mission is to facilitate win-win-win solutions for homeowners, investors and lenders. "Burn Zones: Playing Life's Bad Hands" is Jorge's autobiographical account of how he was pushed to his physical and mental limits during his time of strife, and how he overcame the challenges he faced. Jorge's latest book is: "Debt Cleanse: How To Settle Your Unaffordable Debts For Pennies On The Dollar (And Not Pay Some At All)," which provides step-by-step help for families overwhelmed by debt. Jorge is a regular contributor to Huffington Post and other publications, and speaks regularly on debt, investing, finance and housing issues. The difficult second episode! Recorded Monday the 10th of July, 2017. Iwan and Jack stumble their way through this week's TDF action (Stages 3 to 9) as some favourites abandon, the "Bad Boy of Cycling" Peter Sagan is disqualified and Chris Froome tightens his grip on a fourth Yellow Jersey. Jack explains the Green Jersey and recommends a book that has nothing to do with the Tour De France, but is still cycling related so it's acceptable.
