Send us a textContent Warning! This episode digs into subject matter that isn't for the faint of heart (or young ears)! Joel and Rose had a fun, explicit, and mind-blowing conversation with Jake Miner, from Onyx Coaching as he schooled us on the truth about how we can actually optimize our health based on real science as taught by Dr. Raymond Peat. Even better- Jake has one of those health recovery stories that truly inspires those of us looking for answers. In addition to having all sorts of coaching certifications, Jake studied Neuroscience at Copenhagen University. Don't let his muscles fool you, he's a science nerd, too! Jake's story: "Years ago, I was dealing with a host of health problems: severe hypothyroidism, estrogen dominance, sleep issues, gut problems—you name it. I saw multiple doctors, but the only solutions they offered were antidepressants (SSRIs) and testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Desperate for answers, I tried various diets—Keto, Carnivore, Vegan—along with countless supplements, but nothing worked. My health continued to decline, with my testosterone plummeting to 206 ng/dL. I was cold, had lumps in my chest, and felt completely lost.Over the next 8 years, I turned my life around. I raised my testosterone to 1323 ng/dL, balanced my hormones, and improved my overall health. Along the way, I discovered the work of Ray Peat, which profoundly influenced my approach to health and wellness. Now, I've coached over 5,000 people, helping them understand the importance of metabolic health. I believe that many of our modern health issues stem from our inability to convert food into energy, instead turning it into fat. By addressing these imbalances, we can achieve the vibrant health we all desire."To hire Jake for coaching, please visit http://onyxcoaching.me and you can find his other links HERE Click here to visit Golden Ratio Wellness's website and use the "Become a Client" button to explore ways to work with Dr. Rose and associates on metabolic and hormonal health. Send us a textIn this episode, Joel and Rose hit the road to interview the founders of Ordinary Pioneer in Whitehouse, Ohio: Halina Schriefer and Paul Narus. If you'd like to browse their site while listening to their insights, please go to www.ordinarypioneer.comWe talk about the origins of this healing facility and community, what it's like to lean into the unknown when stepping forward as healing facilitators, the challenges and realities of starting a healing center, and the gift model economy that is used for their community programs. We also touch on what it's like to have a center that welcomes all belief systems and walks of life in the middle of a rural conservative, primarily Christian community. Halina and Paul have lots of stories to share, and we hope you enjoy listening to their experiences bringing healing, connection, and spiritual awareness to this community for the last five years. In this episode, I sit down with Amy Coleman, Respiratory Therapist and Certified Revelation Wellness Instructor, to discuss how she overcame a myriad of mid-life health problems after attending a nine week life-changing discipleship course. She found that trauma is a root cause of illness and that the spiritual piece is often missing for those who are trying to heal. She also discovered that healing is not a linear process, that breath work is vital, identifying and managing stress is key, that movement is a form of worship, and that "shoulding all over ourselves" gets us nowhere. Amy now works with clients who are on a holistic healing journey and helps them to "reveal things to heal things."More info about Amy and how to connect:I help Christian women find joy and freedom in their Mind, Body, Spirit and Soul so that they can live free in who God created them to be! Heather transitioned from a high-stress career in broadcast journalism to a career in yoga. She discusses how she was able to take her outer persona and work on transforming and healing her inner self to match, by learning to love and embrace her body and her struggles. Heather believes in "showing up as you are," plus-size acceptance, how any body, gender, or age can be a yoga body, how pranayama ( breathing) helped her tackle anxiety, and what "yin" yoga is all about and how it helped heal a serious injury. She shares insights from working with students of all ages and body types, and how she is working to show people that yoga really is for anyone who has the desire to learn.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you to all our listeners! After conducting research in Amazonia on prehistorical shifts in climate change, he focused on questions of how to best understand evolutionary biology, and to questions on the origins of biological diversity. Thanks to a Sloan Foundation fellowship, he was then able to shift focus to biomedical problems in cancer, diabetes, heart disease, infectious disease and many other aspects of clinical, biomedical and translational research. To provide a lasting monument to his mother, and to help others share advances in cancer research, he served as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the open access, peer-reviewed research journal Cancer Informatics (Libertas Academica). An expert in study design, complex data analysis, genetics and systems biology, he has written three books: “Ebola: An Evolving Story” (2015), “Cures vs. Profits: Successes in Translational Research” (2016), and “The Environmental and Genetic Causes of Autism” (2016). For “Causes”, he reviewed over 3,000 research studies, and he cited >2,000 in the final product. He is currently CEO/Director of The Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge, which conducts research without profit motive to “Reduce Human Pain and Suffering Through Knowledge.”A regular featured guest on many radio shows focused on public health, Dr. Lyons-Weiler has reached millions with his defense of science as a way of knowing. He sees the public’s current widespread distrust in science as misplaced, because individual scientists and corporations should be held accountable when they mislead the public for profit motives, not the entire enterprise of science. Here are links to many of the topics and organizations discussed in this episode.Institute for Pure and Applied Knowledge (IPAK): http://ipaknowledge.orgInformed Consent Action Network (ICAN): https://icandecide.orgOhio Advocates for Medical Freedom: https://ohioamf.orgNational Vaccine Information Center (1986 Vaccine Injury Act): https://www.nvic.org/injury-compensation/origihanlaw.aspx

This really sums up our conversation very well! -RoseThe biggest question to date has been, what do you do? What is Energy Consulting? Well, it’s a lot of things. Because absolutely EVERYTHING is energy. What I can do, is observe energy. I can feel energy in my being. I listen and talk to energy. I witness the energetic sum of an experience, a moment of time, from ANY time. I communicate with what is all present in that moment. So, what all forms of energy do I interact with to be more specific? The client! If asked to, I can see what is going on energetically in and around one’s being. Deceased and living loved ones, if they are willing. Pets and animals, if they are willing. Nature, trees, plants, insects the land your home is on. The beings that live and stay on the land. Angels, and all forms of divine guidance from all places. Seemingly innate objects such as belongings or furniture. And yes, things that don’t seem so loving or nice. However, I absolutely handle everything with love.I do this with the goal of moving everything and everyone in that moment closer to being whole, closer to being understood, closer to a new experience, closer to peace and harmony, closer to love and light. In a session, whatever comes up, and is ready and willing to be addressed is. Many times an hour session includes mediumship, medical intuition, energy work, and a distant checking into the home. I only “look” if I’m asked to and in a session to do so. I will not know things you do not want me to know. I will just usually perceive a block in that area and will tell you so. If it’s not something you want addressed, we move right on. Confidentiality and privacy are important to me! I will not share if you are a client. I will not share details of your session. However, if you want, you can share your experience of the session. Do I have training? Absolutely! I have my Reiki Master Certification. I have taken Tina Zion’s Medical Intuition and Advanced Medical Intuition Training twice. I have also been in one on one mentoring for with Tina Zion for over a year now. I also have worked for over two years

Check out her website at www.BrainBrightTherapy.com You can call at 419-279-9576In this episode, Danielle explained the she always wanted to work with kids, but didn't think a teaching career was for her. In college, she discovered the field of occupational therapy and fell in love. Working as a traveling OT, she noticed that many of her clients (with issues such as anxiety and ADHD) still retained their primitive reflexes and wanted to know how to help them reprogram their brains and overcome these issues from the ground-up. She got trained with some of the best functional neurologists and the rest is history! After working all over the country, she decided to move back home to Northwest Ohio to share her gift of neurological rehabilitation. Danielle explained that "neurological rehab" has to do with input (sensory processing, etc. ) and output (physical movement, etc). Primitive reflexes are sort of like traditional reflexes (think of the time the doc tapped your knee with that hammer!) and apply them to automatic body responses that are developed in utero and slowly overwritten in your neurological pathways in the first year of your life. If these automatic responses stick around beyond age 1, people can experience a multitude of physical and mental symptoms (too many to list)! It's a common phenomenon that is not widely recognized yet, but has the research to back it.Danielle has worked with people ages 18 months through 86 years old while her primary age range is 6 to 16. Balancing your brain takes a commitment of daily time and effort over a period of weeks to months to get the best outcome. Danielle offers consultations with parents and adult to discuss whether her program is right for them, and also to help determine cost and insurance coverage of the program.-----------------------------Want to advertise your wellness business on our show?If you're interested in supporting the not-for-profit efforts of this podcast through wellness business marketing opportunities, please email info@thrivetribe419.com with "Podcast Commercial" in the subject line.

Local. Organic. Fresh. Herbs. If these words appeal to you, listen as Northwest Ohio's first only-herb commercial farmer and flavor guru offers his perfect trifecta of business sense, experience in food service, and gardening to a teeny tiny plot of organic land that is bringing big results! His clients include local grocery stores, Turkeyfoot Creamery, and various buyers via FreshSpoke. The name of his farm is "Herbaceous Ltd." Michael shares this advice if you're thinking of trying your hand at growing herbs. Start with plants that are close to the ground and have square stems. Good ones to try are sage, thyme, savory, oregano, basil, mint, and tarragon. If you would like to learn more about Herbaceous Ltd., please check our their very green and herbaceous Instagram page under Herbaceousltd. According to CDC stats, Opioids killed 42 thousand Americans in 2016. Celebrities like Prince and Tom Petty shone a light on a problem that is invading so many average peoples' lives, even right here in Northwest Ohio. Opioid addiction can and does happen to anyone, rich or poor, famous, or next door neighbor. It can take only 5 days to become addicted, many times to a prescription written by a doctor for a week or more. In this episode, our Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor discusses the signs and symptoms of addiction, how people get addicted, and how professionals help them get clean. Rose discusses the use of natural remedies to help with pain as opposed to pharmaceutical products. Does the thought of doing "self care" stress you out even more? Taking care of yourself should be something you look forward to, instead of another "chore" on your to-do list! On this episode, Matt (a mental health counselor) and I go over some simple, yet common, self-care strategies, and then Matt introduces us to one strategy that blows everything else out of the water (in our not-so-humble opinions)! According to Dr. Watts, N.D., 35% of the population isn't sleeping well. Is this you? In this episode, we chat about how getting little sleep is a status symbol, whether quality is more important than quality, and how adrenal health, stress, and and corisol play a role in sleep. We also go over some natural ways to practice good "sleep hygiene" for a more restful night. Dr. Watts recommends these books: "Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers" by Robert Zipolsky and "Saying Goodnight to Insomnia" by Dr. Jacobs. She also recommends the "Get Flux" app for laptops, or an app that dims your mobile device's screen to amber at least 30 minutes before hitting the hay if you absolutely have to use a screen. Jenn Kujawa is all about going scared, overcoming fears, embracing her worth as a woman, and being a positive force for change in the world. In this episode, we learn about her recent trip to Guatemala to meet women with whom she is partnering to offer fair trade accessories to Americans, and in-turn, provide a living wage to families who otherwise might not be able to provide for themselves. Further, Guatemala, a developing country, just experienced their worst volcanic eruption in over 100 years on the day Jenn departed for home. She joins us less than 48 hours after arriving back in the States to share moving stories from her trip, and to tell us that the choices that we make here do affect others, even as far away as Guatemala. There are many differing opinions about how to prevent gun violence in Northwest Ohio. There's little chance of making progress without discussion. We're starting the conversation with three of Ohio's leaders on the gun violence prevention front lines. Rachel Gagnon is the Local Group Lead for Toledo Chapter of Moms Demand Action. She supports the 2nd Ammendment but advocates for common sense solutions. MDA is comprised of nearly 4 million supporters nationwide, including parents, nonparents, men, women, students, survivors, and gun owners, etc. They are an evidence-based group and operate under the umbrella of Everytown for Gun Safety. Learn more at www.momsdemandaction.org Toby Hoover is an advocate, activist, survivor of gun violence victim, found and retired executive director of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence (OCAGV). The Coalition was formed in 1996 with a mission to reduce gun violence through education, advocacy, and public awareness. OCAGV is a non-profit statewide organization working with partners and supporters to save lives through policy and culture change. To learn more, visit www.ohioceasefire.org, "OhioCeaseFire" on Twitter and Facebook. Rev. Kristine "Kris" Eggert is the Executive Director of God Before Guns, a multi-faith coalition of individuals and faith communities working to reduce gun violence in Cleveland, Ohio. She supported students effected by the Chardon school shooting. Her violence activism has brought her into many faith communities, the Statehouse in Columbus, and the Halls of Congress. Canal Junction Farm is farming outside the box! They're not your typical NW Ohio farmers, and it's paying off. From individual clients to restaurants like the very popular Fowl and Fodder in Toledo, people are in love with their healthy, delicious, sustain-ably (and ethically) raised grass fed meats and cheeses. When you're talking holistic health, a big part of this is caring for the body by making sure food choices are top notch! We are lucky to have a local farmer who agrees with this concept. In this episode, we talk about how Ralph used grass-grazing to bring life to "dead" farm soil, about his stint with hydroponics, the history of his farm, whether or not their products are organic, and why his meats and dairy are so much healthier than the typical foods produced on conventional Northwest Ohio farms. If you'd like more info on the farm, their store location and hours, their events (tours are great!), you can visit their website at www.cjgrassfed.com Thank you to this week's sponsor: Rebel Chiropractic at www.RebelChiropractic.com and our permanent sponsor: Matt Hollo, holistic mental health therapist at www.MattHollo.com Music credit: www.bensound.com

We cover a huge amount of ground: bone broth, menstrual sponges and cups, poop, supplement safety & affordability (and what some manufacturers are sneaking into their pills), MTHFR mutations, and our big fat Portland, Oregon trip, complete with Air B&B, amazing food, fantastic art, tiny house hotel, weird and wacky plants (the food kind and the smoking kind), pedestrian right-of-way, disappointing island, public transportation, and traveling with a toddler. Phew! Many thanks to Dr. Jenny Pfleghaar, "Integrative Doctor Mom" for answering our questions. Check her out at www.Pflegmed.com Thanks to my co-host Matt Hollo. There are so many words that make up the building blocks of motherhood. Love, faith, social isolation, fertility and infertility, spirituality, comparison traps, social media, play groups, self-care, etc. What words would you throw into it? Author Amy Seiffert lays it all out: the good, the bad, and the sometimes ugly messiness that is real motherhood. Truth bombs included. She pulls you in with her honesty and down-to-earth insights, both in this interview, and in her book "Chin Up." We focus in on her own story and what lead to writing her book and exposing vulnerable parts of herself to the world. We also touch on the spiritual component of Holistic Health and why it is a missing piece for so many people, as well as how Amy's book might appeal to people who don't share her religious beliefs, but still find themselves on a journey of exploration through motherhood. Amy is a grad of Bowling Green State University and has been married for 15 years and has three amazing kids. She has been working in the field of Christian ministry for many years, and loves athletics, creating things, and decorating. Amy has been interviewed on CNN International for the One Dress Campaign to raise awareness for sex trafficking in Ohio and became a spokesperson for The Daughter Project in NW Ohio. She's been blogging for ten years on everyday life and spirituality. Lucy is a personal mind trainer and teaches her clients how to LIVE. She is a "vitalist," which is a theory about life that was once accepted in our society, but not longer considered relevant. Lucy feels this opinion is wrong because the mind and body need to work in sync for people to achieve true wellness. She is a graduate of the College of Integrative Nutrition and is a certified Aroma Freedom Techniques Practitioner. She operates her health coaching business in Northwest Ohio. This is the second part of a two-part interview. Here, we'll discuss genetic memories and Aroma Freedom Technique and how this can help get to the root of body-mind issues to help someone achieve their wellness goals. In this first of two episodes, we discuss what a health coach is and why people need a coach. We talk about why we struggle with self care and why people go from doctor-to-doctor with no help for their chronic health issues. We also talk about what it really means to live the best life possible, and how resiliency and our instant-gratification culture plays into this. Lucy is especially interested in history, and allows this to inform her work. In Part 2 (coming soon), we'll discuss genetic memories and Aroma Freedom Technique and how this can help get to the root of body-mind issues to help someone achieve their wellness goals. If you'd like to learn more about Lucy and her services, please visit www.yourhealthreborn.com or email her at lucy@yourhealthreborn.com. You can also look for her on Facebook under "Lucy Coppes."
