It first aired, on BBC Two, on 28 February 2017. The episode was written by the programme's creators, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, and directed by Guillem Morales. "The Riddle of the Sphinx", which is set in Cambridge, stars Alexandra Roach as Nina, a young woman seeking answers to the Varsity cryptic crossword, Pemberton as Professor Nigel Squires, who pseudonymously sets the crossword using the name Sphinx, and Shearsmith as Dr Jacob Tyler, another Cambridge academic. The story begins with Nina surreptitiously entering Squires's rooms on a stormy night and being discovered; this leads to Squires teaching her how to decipher clues in cryptic crosswords.The plot of "The Riddle of the Sphinx" revolves around the clues and answers to a particular crossword puzzle. The idea to focus an episode on crosswords came from Pemberton; he had long been a fan of cryptic crosswords, but particular inspiration came from Two Girls, One on Each Knee: The Puzzling, Playful World of the Crossword, a non-fiction book by Alan Connor. The crossword featured in "The Riddle of the Sphinx" was set by Pemberton, and was published in The Guardian on the day the episode aired, credited to "Sphinx". This crossword contains multiple ninas—hidden messages or words. Along with many of the crossword's answers, one nina is integral to the episode's plot. The last few years have seen several new restorations of the films of Peter Greenaway, the British director known for classics like The Draughtsman's Contract and The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. His films are formally exacting and erudite, yet full of play and perversion, and are as provocative today as they were upon release. The latest Greenaway film to receive a restoration is Drowning by Numbers, which has just been re-released by Severin Films on Blu-Ray. Made in 1988, the film is a metaphysical puzzle, equal parts fairy tale and process piece. The story follows three women—a mother, her daughter, and her niece—all named Cissie Colpitts, as they drown their husbands one by one. They cover up their crimes with the help of local coroner Madgett and his son Smut, both of whom are obsessed with games of all stripes—moral, athletic, mathematical. Shot by Greenaway's frequent collaborator Sacha Vierny, Drowning by Numbers is one of the best of the director's 80s features, as clinical as it is maximalist. A couple weeks ago, FC Co-Deputy Editors Devika Girish and Clinton Krute called up Greenaway on Zoom for a freewheeling conversation about his memories of making the film, his long career, and his thoughts on mortality and art.

You can see Shomari starring as Shannon in the upcoming thriller 'Take the Night' which follows a resentful brother who organizes a prank kidnapping, but unwittingly hires career criminals who have plans of their own. Shannon is a former basketball star who is sidelined by a career-ending injury that leaves him without a job to support himself. When one of his oldest friends offers him an opportunity to change his financial circumstances by participating in the kidnapping plot, he jumps at the chance. The film is set for a limited theatrical release July 8th. He is also no stranger to the world of film. Love landed his first lead role in Maya and Her Lover. Love plays Kaseem, a young man that opens up a new world that challenges Maya's introverted personality when they begin a contentious affair. The movie was nominated for the 2021 American Black Film Festival Jury Award and is streaming now on AllBlk. Things aren't slowing down for him as he continues to add to his repertoire.
