The folks at the Newfoundland Insectarium in Reidville have been very busy bees. For the past few weeks, they've been hosting honey extraction demonstrations. People are invited to watch and learn about all the work that goes into collecting honey. The CBC's Amy Feehan stopped by.

Maxim Larrivée is director of the Insectarium and creator of eButterfly. He spoke to Andrew Carter about the app, and how it will help scientists.

That's a question a lot of people have, honestly. But a kid named Rosie was bold enough to ask us to investigate why. So, in the latest episode, we dig in on why cockroaches get such a bad rap and why you might want to reconsider if you're not a fan. Only two percent of the world's cockroaches are considered pests. Those are the ones that can live in houses and potentially make us sick. But the vast majority of cockroaches don't bother humans at all! Some, like the social cockroach species known as termites, work to decompose organic material and are hugely important to our environment. So where do people learn negative attitudes toward insects? We dig deep into insects with Jessica Ware, an entomologist and curator at the American Museum of Natural History. She's also the host of the PBS digital series Insectarium. Jerry Marks has worked in the Missoula County Extension Office for more than 50 years, and he knows a thing or two about collaboration. Years ago, he extended an offer to the Missoula Butterfly House & Insectarium when he heard they were outgrowing their downtown location, and the offer was generous: a coveted spot in the middle of Missoula to create a unique science and discovery center.In this week's episode, the commissioners talk with Jerry and Glenn about the Rocky Mountain Gardens & Exploration Center, which will open at the Missoula County Fairgrounds in 2023. World Honey Bee Day is coming up this weekend. On Saturday, people in Newfoundland and Labrador will join in the celebrations for the first time. Andrea Doucette is with a group called "Creating a Buzz," and she also works at the Newfoundland Insectarum in Reidville. That's where the celebration will take place on Saturday.

They've been identified as an invasive species in Newfoundland and Labrador. Green crab damage the marine ecosystem by destroying habitat and eating lobster spawn. Marine experts and fishermen alike say the creatures are pests. But the Newfoundland Insectarium near Deer Lake is making a display area for the green crab. The insectarium educates people about insects and arthropods, and Lloyd Hollett owns and operates the facility.
