POPULARITY
With Christmas just a few days away, the 633rd episode on this Have You Ever Seen channel is the right time to talk about one of the funniest holiday movies. The Santa Clause is not just a consistent laugh-getter. It's also touching...and those are 2 good reasons the flick has been so rewatchable. Tim Allen made his film debut in John Pasquin's blockbuster and it's like we said about Galaxy Quest: cast him in the right role and it's hard to think of anyone better. He's the bad dad who's forced into being the jolly man in red...but was it all a set-up? We talk a lot about that. We also talked a lot about The Santa Clause 2, since we watched that a few days later. So bring your broken family together at the holidays, call off your amber alert (not "orange" alert) and use a snow globe to get your dad to come home from work as we have a good old time yapping about The Santa Clause. Order some Sparkplug Coffee for your New Year's party...or just because it's good and the holidays don't need to determine your drinking options. Our "HYES" promo code will save you 20%. So it's "sparkplug.coffee/hyes". Rate and review our podcast and subscribe to it in your app. Look for us on YouTube. It's "@hyesellis" in your browser. Email us (haveyoueverseenpodcast@gmail.com). “You've got 'til the 13th or fuck you!” - Steve on office holiday party scheduling Recorded live at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, New Jersey - 12.07.23 On this week's episode, we were LIVE in Jersey City to chat about the Tim Allen Christmas classic, The Santa Clause! Shouldn't Tim Allen's character hate Christmas before being possessed by the soul of Santa Claus? Why did they give Wendy Crewson Uma Thurman's exact haircut from Pulp Fiction? How fantastic is Judge Reinhold in this, as always? And how difficult was it to work with Tim Allen on that Disney+ sequel show? PLUS: Steve has an eagle eye spying a fat foot double for Tim Allen! The Santa Clause stars Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, David Krumholtz, and Peter Boyle as Mr. Whittle; directed by John Pasquin. It's Popzara's Movie Time! Podcast, where our in-house movie nerds Ethan Brehm and Nate Evans take you on an unscripted journey yakking and chatting about some of their favorite movie moments and cinematic scenes, from past and present, presented without snark and snobbery for your listening pleasure. Wrapped under this year's podcast tree is our second Santa-themed holiday episode featuring two very different, yet oddly similar movies about men becoming Santa Clause. Parents should exercise caution before gathering the family around the television, however. First up is 1994's The Santa Clause, the John Pasquin-directed, Tim Allen-starring family film about a man tricked into becoming the literal Father Christmas. The guys dissect why this holiday favorite, which spawned a massively successful franchise that continues to this day, is darker and more satisfying than you remember. It's the rare Christmas entertainment where body horror and child custody take center stage, where farting reindeer and legalese reveal the true meaning of Christmas is about loving not who you are, but who you could be. Next is 1980's Christmas Evil (aka “You Better Watch Out”), Lewis Jackson's infamously miscategorized psychological examination of a man descending into madness that's more Taxi Driver than a typical Halloween-style slasher. Lighter on blood than the marketing suggested, Brandon Maggart wows in a stunning performance predated Joaquin Phoenix Oscar-winning turn in Joker, with beautifully shot locations that look better than most modern films. How many Christmas films can boast having a Frankenstein-like mob wielding actual torches?

Tune in as my friend Misty Rose joins the show for the fourth and final episode of Christmas Month 2022, where we cover The Santa Clause, the 1994 Disney Christmas classic starring Tim Allen as a cynical dad who gets contractually roped into the legendary role of Santa Claus. A few of the included talking points are all the intense pressure and guilt that can accompany Christmas, Allen's sarcastic charisma, the Popo Gigio backstory, and how Disney+‘s The Santa Clauses retcons the first movie. Directed by John Pasquin (Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous), The Santa Clause stars Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, David Krumholtz, Larry Brandenburg, Mary Gross, Peter Boyle, and Paige Tamada. Kofi, Blake & Rich celebrate the holidays with a look at Tim Allen's feature film debut - and long-running franchise - The Santa Clause, written by Leo Benvenuti & Steve Rudnick, and directed by John Pasquin.Allen stars as Scott Calvin, a divorced, single-dad toy executive who finds himself donning Santa's suit and then becomes the jolly fat man himself - all because he didn't read the fine print. The movie follows Calvin through some hilarious physical changes, but what interests us is the change he makes from selfish, cynical dad to the very personification of the Christmas spirit. Along the way, we talk about the belief that Calvin's son Charlie (played beautifully by Eric Lloyd) holds in both his father and in Ol' St. Nick himself. We continue to live through the most wonderful time of the year, and what better way to commemorate it than with the film that caused an entire generation to spell Santa Claus wrong: The Santa Clause! Directed by John Pasquin and starring everyone's dad from the '90s, Tim Allen (insert obligatory Home Improvement grunt here), this film diverts from holiday movie tradition to take a mature look at divorce, getting older, and the repercussions of murdering a beloved childhood icon. Or, I suppose, the lack of repercussions. Make sure you join us this week in watching The Santa Clause with a nice mug of Judy's hot chocolate! Happy Halloweenies, to all our little bunniculas. This week we are having a hauntingly good time with Emmy and Oscar-nominee JoBeth Williams. You Might Know Her From The Big Chill, Kramer vs. Kramer, American Dreamer, Wyatt Earp, Frasier, Stir Crazy, Jungle 2 Jungle, Dexter, Poltergeist, and Poltergeist II: The Other Side. We talked to JoBeth about the Poltergeist films with shocking reveals about the props, Zelda Rubinstein, and the grueling stunts that left her bloody. We also dug into her theatre beginnings with Raúl Juliá at Williamstown, her nude scene in her film debut, Kramer vs. Kramer, stealing from Little Edie in Me, Myself, and I, headlining the ‘80s rom-com American Dreamer on location in Paris, and the incestuous dating history of The Big Chill cast. PATREON MOVIE REVIEW: This movie was selected by our patron supporters over at the Cinematic Doctrine Patreon. Support as little as $3 a month and have your voice heard! First things first: thanks so much for your patience with this Patreon voted episode! It’s been a while since we’ve had a perfectly normal chance to produce a perfectly normal episode, and I can tell you from our side of things that this is a huge blessing. So, we hope this episode is as enjoyable for you as it was for us! Second, my wife does not like Santa. And, maybe by the end of this episode you’ll feel I've hyperbolized her distaste, because she does enjoy a Santa movie or two, but she has good reason to not like Santa. Stick around to hear all about that. Also, hear why she likes this movie despite the things she doesn’t like about Santa! Oh, and hear my thoughts, too, because this movie is wild if you really spend any amount of time thinking about it. Third, hang out for our trivia section and hear about a few lil' Easter eggs hidden in this holiday flick, as well as a lot of fun background on Tim Allen’s immense popularity back in the 90s. And lastly, Kathryn and I double-down on this Santa talk as we navigate why Christians aren’t comfortable with Santa. Then, we talk about why Christians may still find him fascinating as a modern mythical and fictional character. The Santa Clause is Rated PG for a few crude moments. It features Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, and David Kruholtz. Directed by John Pasquin. The Santa Clause is currently available on Disney Plus.
