Travis and Robby host another Bearded Wonder, the one and only Ryan Avery. They get into the dedicated rangefinder versus the range-finding bino debate, mules vs. horses, and what it's like to do yoga with someone who hasn't showered in three weeks. Travis and Ryan do a deep-dive into the benefits and how-to of using mules in the backcountry. Travis touches on the interesting term "Hybrid Vigor" here that might explain the differences in mules vs. horses physical and cognitive abilities. They also mention Jordan Budd's latest mule deer film, Utah Archery Hunt: The Maxxis Buck here great little film so be sure and give it a watch. https://youtu.be/HepSGFcrDMk?si=bb50dQW6b1lg9iSZ Thanks for listening and supporting the Rokcast. In this episode, Jordan Budd talks about how he joined the Joe Homebuyer franchise at the end of August / beginning of September 2023 and how he has been growing his business since then. Jordan left a W2 job in early 2022 to learn about real estate, get his real estate license, and did a couple of deals. At the beginning of 2023, he found out that he and his wife had twins on the way and decided to turn real estate investing into a business. After working in the business for a little bit, he found out about Joe Homebuyer and decided to launch his business in the fall of 2023. He realized that he didn't have the systems and processes to run a business and found the Joe Homebuyer business structure could help him to scale his business. He shares lessons that he has learned about his business and why he feels that joining the Joe Homebuyer franchise was a great shift for him in his business and in his life.

Catching Up with Jordan Budd at Hunt Expo Show Notes: I'm live at the Hunt Expo in Utah and I'm catching up with Jordan Budd. Jordan's originally from northwest Nebraska and grew up on a cattle ranch where she hunted deer and elk. She later got into videography and started working for a TV show doing production and editing. Jordan also did some writing for Rokslide. She now has an outfit in Nebraska called Running Water Hunting where she does hunts throughout November and December. Today, she co-hosts the Gear Talk Podcast on MeatEater and is also working with her own sponsors and partners. So many people want to be famous in the hunting world, and Jordan's a great example of someone who's dedicated and seeing great success. Here, we recap Jordan's hunting season, and we start with her experience in Idaho, where she's currently living. She dove into archery and found a buck that someone else wound up getting. She eventually found another buck before the rifle opener and ended up shooting him opening afternoon. From there, Jordan went to Wyoming where she had a pretty rough hunt and we talk about unit-specific tags there. Jordan's going to dive more into elk this year. We chat about hunting deer in the desert, late archery tags, and the challenges that come up. Jordan also shares her most memorable hunt as well as experiences that changed the way she hunts today. Jordan Budd has now been on every type of sheep hunt North America has to offer. Last August, she killed a Dall sheep in Alaska. Dall sheep hunting requires a tremendous amount of mental and physical toughness, and this hunt took that to the extreme. Jordan's hunt showcased the worst weather her guide had ever seen, resulting in days spent alone in a tent. The terrain was steep and nearly shredded her boots, and the pack out was grueling. But she stuck it out and got the job done. In this episode, Jordan relives her Dall sheep hunt. This story will either help you realize that this type of experience isn't for you, or make you want a Dall sheep more than ever. Do you ever find yourself digging through your pack looking for that one item and throwing everything out on the ground, looking like a garage sale on the mountain? Hopefully this week we can help, Chad has Jordan Budd from Rokcast Podcast to talk about gear. Not just any gear though. These talk about some of the last minute items that you don’t want to forget like your spoon or back up batteries and headlamps or your tags. This episode was created to not only give newer backpack hunters some gear options, but also explain in depth why some options are better than others and which have more importance. She explains why you need the item, some options you have within that category and the positives/negatives of those options. Today is a bonus show from an interview with me (ah hem, that's Brad) on Dan Johnson’s podcast. You all may recall Dan Johnson from joining me on Restless Native. I was also on his show a while back, and that’s what you’ll hear today. Before we dive into that, I wanted to tell you about a couple of things. First, we have a deal with Houston Safari Club Foundation going on where you can get a digital membership. Remember, Houston Safari Club Foundation is not a Texas organization, it’s a conservation organization based in Texas. If you heard episode 64, a Wild Journey, that reading was from one of my article submissions to their magazine, Hunter’s Horn. Many of you messaged me asking for more articles like that, so here is your chance. For just $35, you can get access to some great member benefits including the magazine. Tap here for that deal. The second thing I wanted to mention was this is the last week for our First Lite sweepstakes. Soon, I’ll be calling someone to tell them they just won a trip worth at least $4500. The First Lite sweepstakes ends on September 1, so make sure you enter if you haven’t. This is a rare chance to hunt whitetail in Nebraska. The hunt is also for whitetail. You’ll be working with world-class guide, Jordan Budd, on her family’s property. Cable Smith with Lone Star Outdoor Show will also be joining you for the hunt. And, as if that wasn’t enough, you’re getting a butt load of First Lite gear, which First Lite now says might be worth three times what they originally committed to. You can enter by downloading GoWIld, and searching for “sweepstakes.” Entering from there is easy and the whole thing takes less than a minute. Alright, let’s get back to Dan Johnson. Dan was one of the earliest of guys to get into podcasting in the hunting space. You may know that name from Mark Kenyon’s show, Wired to Hunt, where Dan got his start. Or, you may know him from his show and networks, Nine Finger Chronicles and Sportsmen’s Nation. This interview is mostly about what we’re doing at GoWild. I think I shamefully pre-announce a product that has since been put on hold. Oh well, that’s startup life and part of being a big-mouth founder who gets a little too excited sometimes. I will say, what we ended up going with for this year is launching in just a few weeks and I think you’re really going to love the first version of that. To keep myself safe I’m not teasing that, but I will say it’s the first of two huge initiatives for the rest of 2019. That’s right, we’re not done innovating just yet. Owner/Operator of Running Water Media, Running Water Outfitters, and host of the new Rokcast Podcast, Jordan Budd and I discuss how her passion for photography and hunting helped open doors for her in the hunting space. Jordan explains that it's not always what it seems on the "Gram" and there's a huge misconseption between what you see on social, and what it actually takes to be "in" the hunting industry. We dive deep on this and other topics. Hope you enjoy! https://instagram.com/jordan.budd
Jordan Budd and Jordan Adams sit down with Living Country in the City to talk things new hunters should focus on when getting into the outdoors, finding what drives you, how to keep hunting from being a completely hellish ordeal, how to get good deals on gear and how to go about building your gear kit and investing in yourself to learn the skills required for hunting. Today on Rokcast I'm joined by Dustin Wittwer, known for his own podcast Finding Backcountry and other brands Team Backcountry and Backcountry Logistics. We talk about the gear we use, including brands/models and why we use those items. This is a longer podcast for us, but don't worry we're still trying to stick to shorter podcasts. Gear lists take a while. I did end up skipping what stove and cook system we use but we'll be doing a stove and cooking podcast soon. While we were at the Hunt Expo in Salt Lake City we were able to wrangle Jordan Budd and Jordan Adams for a podcast that happened on the fly and we wouldn't have had it any other way. These two were a blast to talk to and not only did we have a great time talking with them we learned a ton of stuff about the hunting industry we didn't know before. When it comes to hunting, guiding, ranching and film making these two are a wealth of information and you'd be selling yourself short if you didn't ask the for their advice. These two are as wholesome and genuine as anybody you'll meet and we can't wait to spend more time with them in the future. Be sure to look them up if you're looking for a deer hunt and be sure to check out Jordan Budd's YouTube channel as well as all their other social media sites. In this episode Jordan Budd joins the show. We cover her 2018 Wyoming elk hunt. This hunt had a lot of ups and downs with big obstacles to overcome. Excuse the poor audio, it was done via phone recorder and we all know that Wyoming and Nebraska have great phone reception...not. Other than that, excellent show and I hope you enjoy it!
