Today I get to talk with Josh Perry! Josh has an incredible and inspiring story. Josh grew up loving BMX and at an early age his passion for BMX bike riding was going to be his career. In 2009 he was 20 years old, winning professional contests and competing at the highest level in the sport. In 2010 a crash led him to get a brain scan. There was no damage from the accident, but the scan revealed Josh had a brain tumor that was taking up nearly the entire left side of his brain and it might be cancer.   Josh immediately went into surgery not knowing if he would wake up, or if he would have cancer and he was told he would probably never ride again. FIVE weeks later he was riding again. He went on to fight many more battles with brain tumors but continued to have an incredible BMX riding career. Today he is retired after a long career. Josh Perry is a British athlete who, as of this recording, holds the record for the self-supported fastest-known-time for both the Pacific Crest Trail and the Arizona Trail. He completed the 2600-mile PCT in 55 days, and 16 hours. The 800-mile Arizona Trail in 14 days, and 12 hours. And the Long Trail in 6 days, 9 hours. Josh Perry was an Ohio State outside linebacker who played in the NFL in the late 2010s. Perry was a productive safety during his freshman and sophomore years. He hit his stride as a junior leading the team in tackles that season. It was enough to get him noticed at the 2016 NFL draft. The Chargers picked him 102nd overall. Perry only spent a single season in San Diego, however. He was impactful, but not a major defensive force. During the 2016 season, Perry registered 16 solo tackles and 22 combined. In the 2017 preseason, he sustained a head injury and the team put him on the injured list before releasing him a week later. Perry was quickly signed to the Indianapolis Colts but only played two games before he got injured again. He sat out the rest of the season before signing with the Seahawks in 2018. He would not, however, play a game in Seattle. Instead, he abruptly retired altogether before the season began. Today he is a reporter on the Big Ten Network.
