SCHEDULE FOR THE JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW, 7-17-2026Jeff Bliss discusses California's controversial "billionaire tax," an initiative designed to bridge the state budget gap that has prompted a significant wealth exodus to states like Texas. He also addresses Governor Newsom's shifting stance on wealth taxes and the re-emergence of past personal and political scandals. (1)Jeff Bliss celebrates the anniversary of Disneyland's 1955 opening, sharing memories of working as a "Yodeler" on the Skyway ride. The conversation shifts to vintage Las Vegas and impending Southern California weather, including a tropical storm system expected to bring 30-foot waves to the Wedge. (2)Richard Epstein analyzes President Trump's recent address questioning the 2020 election results and its potential impact on the 2026 midterms. Epstein explores the constitutional difficulties of removing a president for lack of judgment, arguing that political consequences remain the most viable remedy for irrational leadership. (3)Richard Epstein discusses his book on birthright citizenship, challenging the Supreme Court's interpretation of the 14th Amendment. He addresses the phenomenon of "birth tourism," the status of foreign-raised US citizens, and the relative silence from liberal scholars regarding his arguments on federal plenary power over naturalization. (4)Jim McTague reports on how Canadian wildfire smoke has stifled Lancaster County's tourist economy and created hazardous air quality. He also highlights rising gas prices and a local backlash against AI, where a borough rejected substantial revenue from a tech center due to automation fears. (5)Lorenzo Fiori describes Italy's extreme heatwave, with temperatures reaching 122 degrees, followed by the threat of violent thunderstorms. For relief, he recommends Radicofani in Tuscany, showcasing its medieval fortress, world-class olive oil, and traditional recipes like gratinated tomatoes paired with local Brunello wine. (6)Bob Zimmerman details SpaceX's launch abort for the Starship Super Heavy and the ongoing struggles of ULA. He highlights the $70 billion surge in private space investment, Amazon's expansion into South Africa, and Blue Origin'srevised employee stock options designed to retain talent in a competitive market. (7)Bob Zimmerman reports on the discovery of organic sugar molecules in interstellar space and the identification of a new exoplanet shepherd at Beta Pictoris. He also discusses Katalyst's mission to rescue the Swift telescope and Perseverance's findings on Mars regarding the planet's history of massive impacts. (8)Alan Mikhail recounts the arrival of Anthony and Grietje in 1629 New Amsterdam, noting their resilience during Kieft's War. Despite being banished to Long Island and facing prejudice as "the Turk," they built a prosperous estate, with Grietje emerging as a particularly assertive and foundational figure. (9)Alan Mikhail examines Peter Stuyvesant's hardline enforcement of the Dutch Reformed Church, including the violent persecution of Quakers and anti-Semitic attempts to banish Jewish settlers. The segment highlights the 1657 Flushing Remonstrance as an early, essential document in the American history of religious toleration. (10)Alan Mikhail describes how, as the English seized New Amsterdam in 1664, Anthony and Grietje transitioned into respectable property owners who aged into the colony's social fabric. Mikhail argues that these individuals, alongside long-resident enslaved figures like Mary Angola, should be recognized as the true founders of New York City. (11)Alan Mikhail relates how, following Grietje's death, Anthony remarried a burgher woman, reflecting his elevated social status despite earlier prejudices. Mikhail frames Anthony's life as a vital starting point for discussing Islam in North America, noting the parallels between historical biases and the challenges modern Muslim leaders face today. (12)Henry Sokolski discusses the security implications of a power outage at a US missile base, warning that electrical grids are now primary targets in "gray warfare." He notes that nations like Russia and Iran increasingly view civilian infrastructure as legitimate military targets to spread mayhem and leverage power. (13)Henry Sokolski analyzes the "Golden Dome" project, suggesting its true value lies in achieving space superiority rather than just missile defense. He emphasizes the need for passive defenses, like redundant transformers and public preparedness, to counter the rising threat of autonomous drone swarms and precision attacks. (14)Lilla Nóra Kiss warns about Nuctech, a Chinese-subsidized company dominating the European scanner market through predatory pricing. She highlights the security risks of allowing CCP-linked technology to handle sensitive border and cargo data, noting the company's origins at Tsinghua University and its opaque state support. (15)Lilla Nóra Kiss details how Tsinghua University serves as a conduit for laundering Chinese state technology and operations. She criticizes European regulators for viewing Chinese incursions through narrow "silos" like climate policy rather than recognizing the comprehensive national security threats posed by massive, integrated surveillance machines. SCHEDULE JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW, 7-16-261948Anatol Lieven discusses the reinforcement of Ukraine following NATO meetings, highlighting German drone supplies and the symbolic value of US Patriot systems. While Baltic states fear imminent Russian provocations, Lieven argues Russia's army is currently too "bogged down" in Ukraine to risk a direct war with NATO. (1)Anatol Lieven analyzes the potential premiership of Mr. Burnham as he navigates pressures within the Labour Party. The discussion covers challenges like electoral reform, the rise of the Reform Party, and scandals. Burnham may avoid an immediate election to protect Labour's majority while opposition support fluctuates. (2)Caleb Weiss explains the complex counterterrorism landscape in the Horn of Africa, where al-Shabaab and ISISoperate. He details how the semi-autonomous Puntland region is rejecting Mogadishu's authority. US policy faces significant hurdles as funding for African Union missions reaches a critical crossroads. (3)Caleb Weiss reports on the failure of the 2022–2023 clan militia offensive, which allowed al-Shabaab to recapture lost territory. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud faces a legitimacy crisis and constitutional conflict. Meanwhile, the UAEand Turkey conduct non-transparent drone strikes against various extremist targets in the north. (4)Simon Constable reports on extreme European temperatures and their impact on energy, noting major spikes in EU natural gas prices. He tracks shifting costs for wheat, corn, and copper. Additionally, he notes how Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian fertilizer plants could further disrupt global agriculture. (5)Simon Constable presents a quiz on longevity, revealing that the average US life expectancy has reached 79 years. Hawaii boasts the highest expectancy, while West Virginia remains the lowest. Globally, Monaco, San Marino, and Hong Kong lead in longevity according to United Nations data. (6)Doug Messier and Rick Fisher discuss China's planned 2027 circumlunar mission as a precursor to a lunar landing before 2030. This "Moon Race 2.0" challenges American prestige. While NASA aims for the South Pole by 2028, China and Russia plan an international research station to extract lunar resources. (7)Doug Messier and Rick Fisher explore the lack of cooperation between the US and China, viewing the solar system as a ground for ideological competition. Establishing permanent lunar bases requires major engineering feats, including nuclear power plants and rovers. China views the moon as a stepping stone for Mars. (8)Alan Mikhail discusses his book Newcomers, focusing on Anthony Jansen, known as "the Turk." Mikhail uses historical records to debunk the 150-year-old hypothesis that Anthony was the son of a Dutch pirate who converted to Islam, instead tracing his origins back to 17th-century Spain. (9)Alan Mikhail details the background of Anthony's wife, Grietje, a German migrant who worked as a barmaid or sex worker in Amsterdam. He explains the "soul seller" system used by maritime companies to recruit laborers. The couple married in 1629 and eventually sailed for New Amsterdam. (10)Alan Mikhail describes how the couple settled in Manhattan as ambitious farmers but faced friction with neighbors who used "the Turk" as a xenophobic insult. Their contentious behavior led to their banishment to Gravesend, Long Island. Mikhail highlights the clash between Dutch property rights and indigenous use-rights. (11)Alan Mikhail describes the "half-freedom" status given to some enslaved Africans, a system that cruelly ensured generational slavery. He also details the brutal violence of "Kieft's War" against Native Americans. Despite these conflicts and their exile, Anthony and Grietje prospered on their Long Island farm. (12)Veronique de Rugy warns that Social Security faces a 2032 deadline when trust fund assets will be depleted. Without reform, benefits could be cut by 22%. She advocates for means-testing to preserve benefits for those who truly need them, criticizing the current political silence on the issue. (13)Mary Anastasia O'Grady marks the fifth anniversary of Cuba's July 11 protests, noting the regime's ongoing brutal repression and imprisonment of political dissidents. She criticizes the United Nations for supporting the Cuban regime's narrative against US sanctions while ignoring the human rights atrocities on the island. (14)Thomas Savidge explains how the 2020–2021 pandemic strained state unemployment insurance systems. While 31 states were solvent before the crisis, many struggled with improper payments and fraud due to relaxed federal eligibility requirements. Some states fared better by taking the initiative to end bonus programs early. (15)Thomas Savidge proposes "Universal Savings Accounts" (USA) to replace complex government-managed savings vehicles. These accounts would grant individuals full ownership of their funds for unemployment or retirement. This reform aims to reduce fraud and address the long-term fiscal instability associated with the national "debt bomb." (16)Tail numbers (1)–(16), all standing corrections applied.48

I am excited to reintroduce an episode as part of our series "Embracing God-Sized Joy Amidst Life's Challenges." This episode has been a lifeline for me over the past year as I navigated a season of waiting for what's next. It reminded me that living in the wait is possible and essential. Waiting is something we all experience. Sometimes, our seasons of waiting are brief, and other times, they stretch on much longer than we'd hoped. In these times, it's easy to find ourselves just waiting instead of truly living the life God has given us. In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Melissa Vande Kieft, a speaker and bestselling author of Living in the Wait: How to Use the Delays in Life Differently. Melissa's journey with waiting and discovering purpose began after an unexpected season of waiting. Even though her faith was challenged, her drive to make the most of the middle kicked into high gear. Through her experience, she encourages women to be brave and discover the details God is orchestrating through each life experience. Listen in as Melissa and I discuss how you don't have to wait for your breakthrough to live your life to the fullest. You'll discover how to experience the transformative potential and purpose your season of waiting holds for your life. Whether you listened to this episode before or missed it the first time, I know it will give you the encouragement and hope you need while you live in the wait! It is the early 1640s. The Dutch, who have done their level best to foster good relations with the local Indians because war isn't good for business, have a new governor in charge at New Amsterdam. Willem Kieft is a man of extraordinary ego and bad judgment, a coward and a weasel. Kieft launches an incredibly violent war with the many tribes on and around Manhattan on a tissue-thin pretext. The bloodletting is shockingly wasteful and sad, even across the years. In the end, he turns to John Underhill, the Puritan captain who led the forces of the Massachusetts Bay against the Pequots years before. The results are every bit as ugly. The episode ends with a story about a stonemason named John Ogden, without whom you would not be listening to this podcast. Is the Mitch Rompola World Record buck real or fake? Well this week's guest is Brian Kieft a Mitch Rompola disciple. Brian grew up in Michigan idolizing Mitch Rompola learning from him and applying the tactics and knowledge he gained from Mitch. For the record before this interview I was on the fence about the Rompola buck weather it was true or not. I won't lie I wanted it to be true, but after Brian pointed out some things from a lost photo it was hard for me to say the buck is legit. Did Myles Garrett or Amari Cooper have a great game? Find out in this episode of the Locked On Browns Podcast!Jacoby Brissett wasn't seeking sympathy and he didn't want any ceremonial sendoff. After all, he's not leaving. The Browns gave him one anyway. Nick Chubb scored on a 3-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds left in overtime and Cleveland rallied Sunday to stun Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-17 in Brissett's final start before Deshaun Watson returns from his 11-game suspension.Afterward, the Browns gave Brissett a game ball before the popular 29-year-old channeled Brady, his former teammate in New England. “I mean this in no disrespect," Brissett said when asked how he felt after the comeback win. "But in the words of Tom Brady, that was (expletive) awesome. That was (expletive) awesome.” Chubb powered through a pile of bodies at the goal line as the Browns (4-7) sent Brissett off with a win as they transition to Watson, who was banned by the NFL for sexual misconduct allegations. He'll start next week in Houston, which traded him to Cleveland in March. So this was a special one for Brissett, who has been invaluable to the Browns during another turbulent season. “I'm obviously grateful for this opportunity and grateful for those men in that room,” said Brissett, who also threw a key block on receiver Anthony Schwartz's 31-yard TD run. “This was a great game to kind of end it on, but we have to stack them.”Chubb's short TD was set up when Brissett c onnected on a 45-yard pass to wide receiver Amari Cooper, who found himself wide open when Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis III slipped and fell near midfield. The Browns forced OT on tight end David Njoku's remarkable, one-handed TD catch with 32 seconds left in regulation. Njoku extended his left arm to haul in Brissett's 12-yard scoring strike in the back of the end zone. “I threw it, and I thought I threw it too high and I was about to start crying,” Brissett said. “I saw him pull it down, and I was like, ‘I could have ran up and kissed him.' Clearly I didn't.” Brady threw two touchdown passes, but couldn't get anything going in the 10-minute OT as the Bucs (5-6) were unable to keep their momentum going following a bye.“Seventeen points isn't going to do it,” Brady said. "It's been the same thing all year. We're not scoring enough points. Every play is an individual win or loss, and we're losing too many. There were too many plays where we were not on the right page, and we've got to correct that.” Led by All-Pro end Myles Garrett, who had 1 1/2 sacks, the Browns held Tampa Bay without a point on its final seven possessions.Garrett played the final minutes of regulation and OT in extreme pain after aggravating a shoulder injury sustained in a car crash. “It hurt really bad," said Garrett, who intends to put off surgery until after the season. “I thought I had broken something.” Brady completed 29 of 43 passes for 246 yards and was sacked three times.Brissett went 23 of 37 for 210 yards with one TD and an interception.
