Today, on this Real Israel Talk Radio program, Episode 177 and PART 3, I will continue in this series,  When Does A Biblical Day Start? With the morning or with the previous evening?  According to my understanding of Genesis 1:2-5, it appears that a biblical day begins anew with each sunrise (and actually, slightly before this at "Shachar," based on the Hebrew text of Genesis 1:4-5. Here is a basic summary of what I have covered so far: a.   God called the LIGHT DAY, and the DARK, He called NIGHT. b.   He came to be erev – a pre-morning mix [later to be called shachar] c.    Also, he came to be boker – the morning sunrise [Day] d.   He came to be One “DAY,” Yom Echad – that is, Pre-morning AND Morning. e.   Therefore, we are given a repeating formula for the Creation week – Day ‘X', which is used for days 2 through 7.

In this exciting episode, Shachar touches on: (1) his background as a serial entrepreneur and his experience in the Israeli military shaped his ability to solve problems and work in high-stress environments, which are key traits for a successful founder. (2) The initial idea behind Curve was to create a "wallet to rule them all" - a single interface that could consolidate and manage multiple payment cards and accounts, providing more value and convenience to customers. (3) Building Curve involved navigating complex challenges, such as convincing payment networks like Mastercard and Visa to change their rules to allow Curve's back-to-back wallet technology. This required a resilient, innovative, and persistence approach. (4) Shachar emphasizes the importance of building a company culture that fosters curiosity, adaptability, and a belief that "everything is possible" rather than focusing on perceived limitations. (5) Lastly, Shachar discusses the evolution of the fintech landscape, including the challenges faced by neobanks in creating true financial marketplaces, and the ongoing issues with the implementation of open banking standards. MENTIONED IN THE CONVERSATION Topics: Curve, ApplePay, Google Wallet, PayPal, Tink, neobank, fintech, wallets, payments, paytech, NFC, Open Banking ABOUT THE FINTECH BLUEPRINT

Today's daf is sponsored by Emma and Richard Rinberg in honor of the engagement of their son Joseph to Shachar, daughter of Ayelet and Amir Yefet of Shoham. After concluding that everyone agrees that if a husband puts a get in his wife's courtyard, she is divorced because her courtyard is considered an extension of her hand, the Gemara brings three explanations as to what Reish Lakish and Rabbi Yochanan disagree about regarding the acquiring of an item through the courtyard of a minor. If people are running after an animal with a broken leg who has entered into someone's field, the owner of the field can acquire it by saying "My field acquired it" since the animal is incapable of running away. But if the animal could run fast and escape, then that statement would be ineffective. Shmuel qualifies the Mishna that the field is unprotected and the owner is standing nearby. The Gemara brings proof from a braita that in an unprotected field, the owner must be nearby in order to acquire an ownerless item in the field. The braita contradicts itself and therefore an alternative reading is suggested which is used to prove Shmuel. However, the Gemara suggests an alternative reading of the braita to reject the proof, but that reading is not accepted. Ulla and Rabba bar bar Hana also qualified the Mishna in the same way as Shmuel. Rabbi Abba raises a difficulty against Ulla from a Mishna in Maaser Sheni 5:9 about Rabban Gamliel giving rights to maaser to Rabbi Yehoshua and Rabbi Akiva while they were on a boat by giving them rights to a piece of land on his property. Since they were not standing near the property, one can prove that they acquired it without being next to the property. One possible response to the difficulty is to explain that the act of acquiring was a kinyan agav, whereby one who acquires land and moveable items, acquires the land (through money) and the moveable items automatically become theirs. Rabbi Abba didn't accept this response and Rava explains why. Rava suggests that since there was an easier way to do it - by a kinyan sudar, and they did not use that method of acquiring, it must be because giving rights to maaser is not valued as money, since the maaser belongs to all the Levites/poor people and choosing which one is just considered a benefit. However, the Gemara rejects Rava's suggestion and explains that gifts of the tithes are considered money and explains why a symbolic act of acquisition would not have been effective, but kinyan agav is. Rav Papa offers a different answer to Rabbi Abba's difficulty by distinguishing between an ownerless item and one that is passed on by someone else. Is this an accurate distinction, as Ulla rules that when a husband passes a get to a wife's courtyard, it will only be effective if she is standing nearby?

ISAIAH 14 is comprised of multiple sections. The first three appear to address the king of Babylon, “Lucifer,” and “the Assyrian.” We think those sections, Isaiah 14:1–27, are directed at a single entity—and it's not Satan. We continue our prelude to the study of “Mystery Babylon” in Revelation 17. We show the connections between the melek babel, “king of the god-gate,” and the chief deity of Assyria, Assur, and explain why we believe those two are one and the same with Helen ben Shachar, the entity confusingly dubbed “Lucifer” in the fourth century AD.

Nevertheless, Psalm 110:3 and Isaiah 14:12 do support the association of Shachar with kingship (cf. Foley 1980:193–197; Hossfeld & Zenger 2011:149). Isaiah 14:12 provides further evidence of connection between Shachar and kingship. Interesting is that within Psalm 110:3 the king is the son of Shachar (but as already concluded not as YHWH's physical child). For this reason, David Halperin sees Azazel's actions as a last-ditch effort to retain his privileged place in heaven: we see here the theme, which we have already met in the stories of Enoch in the Book of the Watchers and of Adam in the “Apocalypse of Moses,” of the exaltation of the human and the degradation of the angel corresponding to each other and to some extent depending on each other. Ep. 105 (Part 2 of 2) | Shachar Erez, longtime spiritual practitioner and integrally informed therapist in Israel, opens his heart, sharing his pain and overwhelming grief since the outbreak of war with Hamas and revealing another dimension of what's going on than what we see in the news. It is a profound experience listening to a sensitive, compassionate person openly, honestly, courageously sharing what it feels like to be living with his family under threat of extreme violence, struggling to accept humanity as it is, working to help survivors reframe trauma to prevent PTSD, all amidst utter uncertainty as to the future of Israel and its people. Universal questions are raised: How to remain human in wartime? How is an ethical, spiritual, peaceful person to cope? Is there any hope for peace between Palestine and Israel? And, we are all broken—how do we accept the brokenness and continue to function? The sustaining power of an integral-spiritual practice is clear—it is practice (intense workouts and meditation especially) that gets Shachar through and able to muster up the energy to help others, which in turn is so helpful to him. Shachar marvels at how sitting in the therapist's chair allows him to embrace all that he hears—all the realities, all the horrors—when if he heard it on the news, he couldn't take it. As a therapist, Shachar is very much thinking ahead to the near unimaginable challenge of helping all the people who are hurt by this war, in Gaza and in Israel, after the fighting stops. “How do you find a shrink for 12 million people?” he asks, adding, “This should be an awakening all over the Western world—people should not be living in fear like this in 2023.” Recorded November 1, 2023. “People should not be living in fear like this in 2023.”(For Apple Podcast users, click here to view the complete show notes on the episode page.)Topics & Time Stamps – Part 2What is Israel to do in this situation? (06:49)There's no more left wing in Israel—what's the future of this place? (07:49)Why Shachar left progressive Berkeley and returned to Israel (10:53)Can peace happen? The Palestinians have been taught to hate, but John reminds us how the U.S. and Germany, the U.S. and Japan, were reconciled very quickly after WWII (13:30)The most important practice now: high intensity workouts (17:45)If numb, do something small to regain functionality and motivation (18:21)Other helpful practices: talking to people, meditation, volunteering & helping others (19:41)In trauma, you always feel like you are alone, but Israelis are good at coming together socially if not politically (21:25)In the midst of trauma and hatred, human kindness is healing (22:43)What can we who are not near the battle do to help? Stay open to the suffering, to the questions, and avoid dogmatic certainty (23:27)What would be the most humane response? Holding compassion but holding strength (26:35)This should be an awakening all over the Western world – there's something that needs to be realigned: people should not be living in fear like this in 2023 (27:31)What is the right response ethically, practically?...

If Azazel can persuade Abraham not to make his ascent, he will perhaps be able to keep his own privileged status. Halperin, The Faces of the Chariot, 111. The Hebrew text has הֵילֵל בֶּן־שָׁחַר (helel ben shakhar, “Helel son of Shachar”), which is probably a name for the morning star (Venus) or the crescent moon. See HALOT 245 s.v. הֵילֵל. sn What is the background for the imagery in vv. 12-15? This whole section (vv. 4b-21) is directed to the king of Babylon, who is clearly depicted as a human ruler. Other kings of the earth address him in vv. 9ff., he is called “the man” in v. 16, and, according to vv. 19-20, he possesses a physical body. Nevertheless the language of vv. 12-15 has led some to see a dual referent in the taunt song. These verses, which appear to be spoken by other pagan kings to a pagan king (cf. vv. 9-11), contain several titles and motifs that resemble those of Canaanite mythology, including references to Helel son of Shachar, the stars of El, the mountain of assembly, the recesses of Zaphon, and the divine title Most High. Apparently these verses allude to a mythological story about a minor god (Helel son of Shachar) who tried to take over Zaphon, the mountain of the gods. His attempted coup failed, and he was hurled down to the underworld. The king of Babylon is taunted for having similar unrealized delusions of grandeur. Some Christians have seen an allusion to the fall of Satan here, but this seems contextually unwarranted (see J. Martin, “Isaiah,” BKCOT, 1061).
