Stacy Spikes came to Hollywood with dreams of revolutionizing the industry. His creation, MoviePass, promised to offer low-fee, all-you-can-watch theater subscriptions for movie fans. The only problem? It couldn't make any money. Find out what happens when Stacy sells out to an eccentric investor, why a dog had to issue an apology to customers, and how John Travolta is somehow at the center of it all. Misha Brown and special guests Jamie Loftus (The Bechdel Cast, Lolita Podcast) and Austin Nasso (Socially Inept: A Tech Roast) sit back, grab some popcorn, and give a scathing review of MoviePass. Tegan and Silvana watch Season 3, Episode 22 "Nemesis". Silvana and Tegan have a lot to nitpick in the first two minutes of this episode because of the flirting between Sam and Jack. We're not here for these shenanigans. This episode introduces a new enemy: the replicators! Silvana gets real "media philosophy" for part of this episode. Both wonder why the Stargate writers aren't exploring the individual motivations of team members versus the team itself. Teal'c has so much potential in this episode that is unexplored! Sweeps Month comes to a rousing conclusion as Jamie Loftus (comedian/writer) returns to become best friends with Tony Hawk (just as we are) by being blocked by none other than the Olympics themselves. Jamie actually tracks down the IOC headquarters in Switzerland to try and get her Twitter account back in a valiant Block Tale and Stefan gets thrown back to his mock draft-ruining days with the listener Block Tale. After the longest intro ever, Jamie tells us about why she had to miss Trivia Party last week: because she was attending Ghost Church. We learn all about channelling spirits as Stefan and John decide to get into the slime business, and Jamie learns about the two ghosts that follow her around constantly. Plus, we wonder about the existence of a beach plum, Jamie wants a Nicole Kidman AMC ad supercut, and Stefan and John have weirdly symbiotic tweets about Elden Ring. If you want to feel more in symbiosis with the pod, head on over to patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. Last week was a big one, as we released a Canadian Education episode on Matt Good with former fun. lead singer Nate Ruess, and the aforementioned Trivia Party makes its triumphant return with Branson Reese joining us. We've got lots of great stuff planned for March, plus merch discounts, an exclusive Discord, and more! Jamie Loftus is a comedian and writer whose weekly podcast, The Bechdel Cast, can be heard wherever you get your pods. You can also seek out her three limited-run series, "My Year in MENSA", "Lolita Podcast", and "Aack Cast" and keep an eye out for her upcoming series on the spiritualist movement later in the spring. You can follow her on Twitter at @jamieloftusHELP.
This week we're re-releasing one of our fave episodes from May 2021. You may know our guest today, Jamie Loftus, from one of her many podcast endeavors. My Year in Mensa, The Bechdel Cast, Lolita and most recently The Aack Cast. This week she stops by to share her fave pods and talk about her deep dive into Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita. What do you think of when you hear Lolita? Heart-shaped sunglasses? Lana del Rey? Romance? Critics have called it a great love story. But look deeper into Vladimir Nabokov's novel and you might instead see a cautionary tale full of predatory behavior told by an unreliable narrator. So why does that name still conjure images of love and lollipops? You might remember host Jamie Loftus from My Year In Mensa (featured on our recommendation chain) or from The Bechdel Cast. She first learned about Lolita at age twelve and has had a complicated relationship with it ever since. That relationship inspired her to create Lolita Podcast, a deep dive into the history and cultural legacy of Lolita. Jamie joins Elamin this week to talk all things Lolita Podcast. And she brought along some of her favorite podcasts to play for us! Featuring: Lolita, You're Wrong About, There are no girls on the internet. As a note before you listen: Jamie and Elamin's conversation touches on mature themes, including child abuse and pedophilia. Please take care while listening.

In this episode, Dario talks to Terry Lee. Terry is Senior Tutor in Radio & Audio at the University of Bedfordshire and is also responsible for the award-winning Radio LaB 97.1FM. He has had a long career in independent and commercial radio including managing Norwich's Future radio. In 2018, he started Fantastic Noise a podcast primarily aimed at students studying radio, and featuring the experienced voices of radio professionals and experts. Along with talking about the formation and production of Fantastic Noise, the conversation covers how students of radio approach and understand the use of sound in the digital age, podcast and radio's symbiotic relationship, and the future of audio technology and its impact on media specificity. We are also taken around the podcast neighborhood by Jess Schmidt. Her recommendations this week are The Lolita Podcast from iHeart Radio and hosted by writer-comedian Jamie Loftus (My Year in Mensa) that uses the misunderstanding and infamy around Nabakov's classic as a jumping-off point for discussions of false media narratives. Also recommended is Blank Check, a film podcast that reviews successful directors' complete filmographies, getting to the point where they were given free rein to pursue a passion project. Lori also discusses a recent talk she gave at the Birmingham Centre for Media and Cultural Research as part of a research seminar on Podcasting, Discoverability, and Listener engagement. You can listen to the full seminar here. Terry also recommends The Skewer a Charlie Brooker-esque satirical comedy show with great sound production, and The Offensive, a Mockumentary series like The Office or The Thick of It in tone, but focusing on a fictional premier league football team. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/podcaststudiespodcast/message

That Do It For Ya? A Sexual Awakenings Podcast About Why We're Like This
In this episode, Poet Clementine von Radics and Illustrator Pia Marchetti (hosts of We Did The Reading Podcast) and I talk about our teen musical obsession - Spring Awakening. We have to bleep a lot of names and we get real smart about this musical theatre phenomenon that brought us together as friends and lovers. * About Pia Pia Marchetti is a drawer of drawings and a thinker of thunks. They work at Studio Cult, where they make content and snuggle the cats. Pia is also an illustrator. (They illustrated this.) Pia went to fancy pants school for scenic design. Don't ask about it. They're passionate about emojis, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Britney Spears' music videography. They're really just trying to ride Clementine's coat tails to fame and fortune. So far so good! * About Clementine Clementine von Radics is a non-binary poet and mental health advocate living in Brooklyn. They've authored three poetry collections, In a Dream You Saw a Way to Survive, Mouthful of Forevers, and Dream Girl. Most importantly, they are friends with Pia Marchetti. Clementine got a masters degree from The Internet. Their brain is like a giant spherical cage with two cool skeletons riding motorcycles around in perpetuity. Clementine loves the aesthetics of maps, composition notebooks, and Dolly Parton. They know a lot (like too much tbh) about the racist history of Mt. Rushmore. If you meet them they will probably try to tell you about the racist history of Mt. Rushmore.
