Objectifying people in relationships means treating them as objects rather than human beings —viewing them as a means to an end without any feelings or regard for their well-being. Objectification not only hurts people but also erodes the foundation of any meaningful relationship. Learn the signs of objectifying someone and how to stop doing it so that we can establish genuine and authentic connections.

Ep. 32 If you're tired of feeling stuck and disconnected, it's time to explore a new path towards resilience and empowerment as you approach middle-ages. Alison Jacobson, the Midlife Maverick, joins Kelly and Kelly to discuss the power and potential of coming into your 40's and 50's. The term "Midlife" is reframed from a crisis to an opportunity for growth, driven by a powerful combination of experience, wisdom, and resilience. The conversation provides practical advice for women to redefine abundance, cut through societal expectations, and take purposeful strides towards their ideal lives. Alison shares her personal journey of overcoming adversity and finding resilience, offering insights and strategies for women to release fear, live boldly, and create the life they desire. She emphasizes the importance of self-care, finding your village, and embracing change. Key Takeaways: Midlife is an empowering stage for personal and professional growth, not a crisis to be feared. Learning to be comfortably selfish is crucial for self-care and making empowering life choices. Emotional strength and resilience, built over years, contribute to higher rates of business success in later life stages. Mindful practices and a sharp focus on happiness goals are instrumental in achieving a fulfilled and abundant life. Women achieve remarkable entrepreneurship success after 40, underlining the value of life experiences. Notable Quotes: "I feel bad for them because I think that the version of me before the forties sucked." - Kelly Metras "Self-care is taking a sabbatical. Self-care is going on a vacation for three days by yourself. Self-care is hiring a coach." - Alison Jacobson Resources: Alison Jacobson's Website Downloadable content like "Five Steps to Release Fear and Live Boldly" mentioned by Kelly Bush Daily Inspirations for Midlife Women: A Guide to Peace, Joy, Confidence, and Abundance - Alison Jacobson's book First Candle - an organization for families affected by SIDS or stillbirth (No explicit URL mentioned in the transcript, but provided for reference) Chapters: 0:00:00 Intro to Topic of Midlife with Kelly + Kelly 0:01:09 Internal struggles and expectations women face 0:05:43 Introduction to Allison Jacobson, the midlife Maverick 0:07:02 Alison's entrepreneurial journey and life challenges 0:09:25 The importance of self-care for women 0:09:57 Appreciating the transformative power of the forties 0:10:17 How do you define midlife? Kendall LaPorte is a seasoned Organizational Development Consultant and Executive Coach with a diverse background spanning various sectors. She brings a keen interest in leadership development and extensive experience in change management as well as learning and development. Particularly in the biotech realm, what distinguishes Kendall is her passion for fostering consciousness and intentionality into everyday life, coupled with her unique perspective on using challenges as valuable tools for growth. In this episode, we're talking about "shadow work." Kendall clarifies that our shadow consists of characteristics we repress, but can offer valuable insights when acknowledged and integrated. Recognizing our shadow can improve our self-awareness and make us more empathetic in interactions, whether at work or in personal relationships. Danny and Kendall talk about ... Shadow Work Origins: The concept dates back to Carl Jung and focuses on recognizing and integrating repressed characteristics to attain a balanced self. Political Shadows: Extreme political opinions can serve as an excellent lens for examining our own repressed qualities and biases. Start with Empathy: Empathy should be the starting point for any interpersonal interaction, helping to see the humanity in others even when our shadows clash. Objectifying the Shadow: Rather than being subject to our predispositions and attitudes, objectifying them allows for a clearer analysis and conscious action. Positive Shadows: Imposter syndrome could be an example of a "positive shadow," a repressed quality or skill that you possess but don't acknowledge, which can be unearthed to build self-confidence. What if we've been interpreting Jesus' view of sexuality all wrong?Join me as we explore a fresh perspective on this topic: how Jesus saw people as sexual beings without objectifying them. We'll unpack how Jesus saw whole people, highlighting the divine difference between being sexual and being sexualized.Drawing from the ancient wisdom of Scripture, let's redefine how we view and value what it means to be sexual, applying it to our own interactions and personal perspectives. The media, with its relentless spotlight on physicality apart from personhood, often distorts our understanding of sexuality.Together, we'll uncover the media's impact on the sexualization of individuals, revealing how it often disconnects sexual parts from their procreative power, reducing people to mere objects of desire.Jesus offers a way out of this narrative. .Get ready to embark on a transformative journey towards understanding and embracing a more holistic view of human sexuality.Want us to talk about a specific topic? This episode is an edgy one: Is expressing our sensuality through our bodies, social media, and relationships empowering or objectifying? I talk about my personal experiences with my sensual and s3xuality as well collectively as women being muted and being oppressed in our natural way of self-expression. Some argue that embracing sensuality in media can be empowering for women, some don't. I speak on the the dichotomy of sensuality in media: can we heal through social media? Can our triggers actually be a way of seeing where we aren't free? Join me in a powerful episode exploring the feminine, authentic expression and embracing sensuality. In this week's episode, Kelly and Crystal talk about how our culture is rationalizing the objectification of our bodies and denying the soul. We, especially our children, have an inherent desire to be seen, known, and loved. But, while beauty extends an invitation to share in divine goodness and truth, images that objectify-pornography-send a deceitful message that to be seen, known, and loved is to be used. While the lie of pornography has woven itself into the very fabric of our worldly culture, the truth of what it means to be seen, known, and loved is woven into the very design of our bodies. Clayton Instagram: @jcware99 Facebook: Clayton Ware Our Identity: WellHouse Church is a church seeking to reimagine what the church is. Too many people have been hurt by a church in their past, because church has become something that it was never meant to be: an event or building that we attend. At WellHouse, we believe that the people of God are the church and that the love of God should be experienced through the people of God. So, WellHouse has returned to a New Testament expression of our faith by meeting in homes and dedicating ourselves to: the teaching of the scriptures, the fellowship of the believers, the breaking of bread together, and praying together for one another. We are focused on being a genuine expression of Christian hospitality and service to our community and the people of our community. At WellHouse we want to be a place where people can Be Real, Be Relational, and Be Restored. As our leadership was dreaming up this vision, we looked at Scripture and saw that the earliest expressions of the church met in homes and it was rare that all of the believers were together. Today, most churches have found themselves spending a large portion of their budget on buildings that they rarely use. Not WellHouse. We want to keep our overhead low so we can spend our money on the things that matter, being the hands and feet of Jesus. So, we meet in the homes of our members for the majority of our meetings. Once per month, we all come together at a rented facility to devote our selves together as the whole church for the purpose of worshipping God together.
In this bonus episode, Tegan and Silvana talk about how the media they were raised with often treats women as objects more than subjects.
