Hello Friends! Join Donna and Paula as they chat with Paige King Johnson! Be sure to check out the interview on YouTube https://youtu.be/Ds_5FDX-s7E In a quiet North Carolina town 22 miles south of Raleigh, as a young 9-year-old girl, Paige King Johnson spent her summers under the crepe myrtles imitating the styles of Loretta, Patsy, Waylon, and Merle. Having a grandpa as her biggest fan also meant receiving the gift of her first guitar – a baby Taylor - and enrolling in lessons. After her grandpa passed, the bright-eyed dreamer carried on his memory by taking her newfound discovery to local fairs, festivals, and any other stage she was allowed to stand on. As she grew older, Johnson added “opening act” to her resume, supporting chart topping artists like Scotty McCreery, Neal McCoy, Luke Pell, and James Otto. And with high school graduation came the realization that this was more than a hobby. The Angier native traded in horse pastures and back roads for the bright lights of Music City in 2015. Upon starting school at Belmont University for Music Business, Johnson honed in on the magic that had heavily influenced her as a child: the art of storytelling thru songwriting. “I started finding my own voice thru writing, becoming more confident, and owning the fact that my personal feelings and experiences were worth talking about, singing about, and putting on paper,” Johnson reflects. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/crazywomencountry/message
Luke Pell discusses his music career and his life attending Westpoint.
We hung out with ol' Luke Pell and what a great talk it was! We learned a lot about his music faith and what he's been doing threw this crazy year we call 2020!
It’s a great privilege to make an impact on others by leading a life worth emulating—and having mentors in our lives who once gave us the same gift. Motivational speaker Trent Shelton grew up in a family of faith who supported his dreams of becoming a professional athlete. After Trent worked his way to the NFL, he realized he was sacrificing his future by chasing temporary fulfillment. When he hit rock bottom, Trent decided to make God the rock of his life, and after his son Tristan was born, Trent worked hard to become a father his son would be proud of. And now, as he shares in his new book Straight Up, Trent tries every day to become the best version of himself so that he can impact his family and show them how to live well. Author Peggy Rowe—mom to Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs—was raised by loving parents who sacrificed time, money, and energy so Peggy could explore who she wanted to be. Now, Peggy seeks to impact others the way her parents inspired her through writing and sharing stories with millions of readers. Episode was conducted as the COVID-19 quarantine got underway Independent country artist Paige King Johnson moved from her native North Carolina to Nashville to pursue her songwriting and singing dreams. She has hung out at the famous Bluebird Café and has opened for chart topping artists like Scotty McCreery, Neal McCoy, Luke Pell, and James Otto. Her current single, “Water Down the Whiskey” channels the sensitivity of Kacey Musgraves while dishing out the unapologetic nerve of Miranda Lambert. Johnson's confident ownership of her craft is a direct result of the compelling female staples she grew up on — females who have at times strayed from the mainstream path to carve their own. With a heartfelt conviction to write genuine songs she can be proud of for years to come, Johnson is ready to go down any path that calls her name – as long as she can walk it in her favorite pair of boots. Paige King Johnson chats with Buddy Iahn and Matt Bailey about her career, aspirations and what she's been doing back home to pass the time during the COVID-19 quarantine. Coalition’s Whisper Tracing, an open and privacy-first protocol, randomizes a user’s device identity and does not share identifiable information with the cloud. No personal data is ever asked for, collected, or shared. Topic: Bachelor Series Tutorial This week, the roles are reversed, and rather than our typical host being in the driver's seat, Mom is instead. That's right, Mom is leading this week's Tutorial, along with next weeks Review of the Bachelor series. A show that frankly I was watching but didn't have a huge amount of knowledge or background on. I'm watching it for the Train Wreck that it is, Mom's watching it though... for the Train Wreck that it is, but she knows so much more about than me for once. Come watch as I learn something this time around. Inception: Debuted March 25, 2002 Seasons: Bachelor 24 Bachelorette 16 First 4 years Bachelor filmed two seasons per year Bachelor films mid-September to mid-November Bachelorette films mid-March to mid-May Each airs approximately 10 episodes + After the Final Rose, sometimes 11 25-30 Contestants; takes 6 episodes to get down the “Final 4” Homes Town Dates Fantasy Suites Men/Women Tell All Meet the Parents/Last Chance Date/Rose Ceremony After The Final Rose First Night begins around 7pm with arrivals; goes into the following morning so that the Bachelor can have at least 5 minutes with each girls. A Group Photos is taken around 5-6am, then the first eliminations, usually 5 – 7 contestants, takes place. First two weeks are filmed in “The Mansion”, Villa de la Vina, a 7,590sf, six bedroom, nine bath home in Agoura Hills, Ca The next three episodes feature 2 “group dates” and one One-on-One, filmed on consecutive days; not all contestants get dates each week. What the show refers to as a week is actually 4 days filming. After the “3rd week” (usually 10 days into filming), the cast will travel domestically for four days (2 groups dates, a 1-on-1 and Rose Ceremony), then the next episode (down to 8-10) will travel internationally for the next two episodes to get to Home Towns. Home Town dates take place in the contestant’s hometown and take 9-10 days to film: travel – date – travel – date – travel – date – travel – date – travel – Rose Ceremony. Each features a day time activity and then diner at the parent’s “Home”. Homes are frequently Air BNBs or borrowed homes of friends. The Bachelor can usually identify at least three of the four he thinks will be getting home towns a week or two in advance so that a Logistics Team can scope out possible filming locations or create ideas for dates, arrange performers, ect. Fantasy Suite Dates: The Final Three are given “Fantasy Suite” dates. A full day activity and then a Night Time very private date in a romantic setting at a hotel. At some point during the “Dinner” the couple “finds” a card from Chris Harrison that reads “ X and X, here is a key. If you decide to forego your separate rooms, please enjoy a night in this fantasy suite.” There have been Bachelor/Bachelorettes who have told their “Date” that they wanted just to spend the time talking and not use the suite, or have broken off the date during the day time portion (Desiree and Andi). There have been contestants who have declined going into the Suite. Helena (Aaron), Becca (Chris S.) Luke P., Madison. Constantine declined Ashley. Dates are filmed: travel – overnight – day off – overnight – day off – overnight – Rose Ceremony. Contestants (with the exception of the current season) are kept separated so that they can’t talk between themselves. They are together during Rose Ceremonies but not allowed to converse. Meet the Parents/Last Chance Date/Rose Ceremony One or two night event. Takes a week to film: Travel – #1 meets the parents - #2 meets the parents - #1 Last Chance Date - #2 Last Chance Date – Ring Selection – Rose Ceremony After The Final Rose Filming ends 10 weeks (Bachelor), 6 weeks (Bachelorette) before airing. During this time, there are “Safe House” visits for the couples, often in Palm Springs. At AFTR, the “runner-up” talks with Chris Harrison and then the Lead to get closure. The Lead and the Winner reunite and talks about their plans. Some seasons the next Lead is introduced and meets 4-6 of their Contestants. Recurring themes: The “Interupt” The “Comeback” The “Unexpected New Contestant” The “Departure”/Self Elimination Spinoffs: Bachelor Pad Bachelor in Paradise Bachelor Winter Games Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart This summer, Bachelor Summer Games International: Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Romania, Brazil, Japan Live Shows: Bachelor Live Leads: Twice a Lead wasn’t chosen until mid-way through the first episode: Byron Velivk and Jay Overbye Kaitlyn Bristow and Britt Nilsson Unusual Endings: 10 – Brad Womack didn’t propose to either woman and left single (only time ever happened) 13 - Jason Mesnick was pressured to choose Melissa because Molly Malaney told producers that she wouldn’t accept a proposal. He broke up on ATFR and later married Molly 18 – Juan Pablo famously wouldn’t propose to Nikki, or tell her he loved her, only that he liked her very much. 22 - ArieLuyendyk Jr choose Becca but later had a change of heart and broke-off in a filmed “Safe House” visit to pursue Lauren who he proposed to on ATFR. They married 1 year later. 23 – Colton Underwood “jumped the fence” during Fantasy Suite Week and tried to leave the show when he realized that producers had brought in Cassie’s father to talk her out of going further. He later cut loose both of the other remaining contestants to pursue Cassie. They did not get engaged. Marriages: Bachelor 13 – Jason Mesnick& Molly Malaney 17 – Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici 22 – ArieLuyendyk and Lauren Burnham Bachelorette 1 – Trista Rehn & Ryan Sutter 7 – Ashley Hebert & JP Rosenbaum 9 – Desiree Hartsock& Chris Sigfried 13 – Rachel Lindsay & Bryan Abasolo Controversies: Environment – Contestants are not allowed TV, books, movies, but encouraged to drink and forced to have “Chats” ITM – In the Moments. ITMs are supposed filmed during events, but contestants are frequently called back during editing, weeks later, to refilm segments. Fans point to differing earrings, length of beards or hair as proof. Frankenbiting – Frankenbiting refers to the editing of dialog out of context, out of order within a conversation, or altogether parsing words by showing the side or back of someone speaking and inserting parts of dialog from other days of filming. Manipulation by Producers. Villains are created by encouraging contestants to disrupt other’s time w/Leads, encourage contestants to be aggressive, make private visits, encourage tattle telling. Good Edits/Bad Edits. Contestants can get a bad edit simply be refusing to play along. Kelley this season is an example. For the Wrong Reasons: Personal Trainers and Body Builders. There are not very many male contestants with “real Jobs”. Many women are in Pharmaceutics Sales. The amount of time the show takes to film (anyway from 1 week to 8 weeks) prohibits many gainfully employed from participating. Advent of Influencers – many contestants entering the show over the last 5-7 years have been Instagram or twitter “Influencers” who already were advertising products. Beauty Queens – the last three season have seen Miss America Contestants – at least three per season, all hoping to push their careers. Introduction of Musicians and Models – many thought Luke Pell didn’t get the bachelor gig because he was too openly pushing his music. Jed (winner of Hannah B’s season) openly admitted to Hannah that he went on the show to help his music career. UNREAL – TV Spoof and SNL Satires Blogs and Podcasts!!! The number one way to monetize your Bachelor experience is to Blog or Podcast! Contestant Blogs/Podcasts: Sharleen Joynt (Juan Pablo) – Flare Magazine: Insightful and honest. None of us is guaranteed a pain-free life. But when we can’t see the right way to move forward, that’s where God steps in to take us by the hand and leads us out of the dark. On today’s episode, Army veteran and Bachelorette contestant Luke Pell and author/speaker Jack Deere share some of their painful moments—an unexplainable, near-death experience; watching a spouse slip into an alcohol addiction; losing a child—events that almost caused them to give up. But each man reminds us: when it feels like we have nothing left to cling to, God is there. And He’s ready to guide us through those experiences so that later, we can support others who may not be able to find their way out, either. You're gonna make it through.’” - Luke Pell “I've really learned to appreciate those moments of uncertainty, when you're feeling more alone and you're feeling like you don't know what tomorrow holds. . . . Those are the times when I get the most direct purpose from God in my life.” - Luke Pell “We have to really stay true to ourselves and true to our faith, and keep that faith walk intact, regardless of what the rest of the world is throwing at you every day. The more we're thinking about the rest of the world and what they're thinking about us, the less we're thinking about what God has for us and where our faith walk should be.” - Luke Pell “[My] childhood produced this desire to keep really tight control in my life. I blocked out some of the stuff and thought, Feelings are bad. Stay in your mind. Don't go to your feelings. That was the hardening effect that my childhood had on me.” - Jack Deere “When you're seventeen years old and everybody you've ever loved has left you, to hear that God won't leave you is just too good to be true.” - Jack Deere “The only Person who never needed any help chose twelve helpers. Why? For the pleasure it gave Him to love those twelve apostles and to teach them to love what He loved.” - Jack Deere “Although I had plenty of my own shame, I didn't even think in those categories. I just thought, You have an unpleasant feeling. Just get rid of it. I lived out of my mind, not out of my feelings.” - Jack Deere “I began to see that the most important thing in life is feeling the affection of God, actually being friends with Him. Gareth Chambers is a proud Welshman based in Cardiff. He works as a choreographer, dancer and writer. His work is visceral, with a strong queer aesthetic that questions the ways in which bodies function in society, intersecting with gender, sexuality and class. Gareth calls his work ‘Visual Dance’. His work often sits neatly in a live art category, sitting well outside of a traditional theatre space, like in nightclubs and warehouses. Gareth studied at Laban Centre, London. He has worked with Doris Ulrich, Tactile Bosch, Eddie Ladd, Marc Rees, Luke Pell, Cai Tomos, Ema Jayne Park, Siriol Joyner, Joon Dance and Wendy Houstoun. Work has been shown in Cardiff, Swansea, London and Berlin. Gareth was awarded DanceWeb Scholarship to attend ImpluzTanz in Vienna. He recently concluded this intensive where he studied under Doris Ulrich, Ivo Dimchev Keith Hennessy, Eroca Nichols, Libby Farr, Risa Steinberg ,Salim Gauwloos and Guy Cools. This year he was also one of the international artists at YIRRAMBOI First Nations Arts Festival in Melbourne. Gareth presented his work, Llaeth, which (is one difficult for an Australian to pronouns- see podcast). This work explores the idea of taboo around mother’s milk, ideas of masculine and feminine, alongside identity and self. Gareth also writes and edits for online dance magazine BELLYFLOP. This was a warm and authentic interview, which covered so much territory, from Queer art politics, dance and desire, goals and ambitions, through to ways of making dance work. If you have enjoyed this episode and you want to continue to hear a diversity of dancers and dance makers experiences, leave a contribution. With arts journalism around the world in decline, now more than ever, platforms like Delving into Dance are critical in providing artists a space to talk about their work to a dedicated audience, while also archiving their experiences.
