Where do you turn when your organization commits fraud, waste, or abuse? How do you cope with retaliation after you decide to speak up? Being a whistleblower is one of the most traumatic experiences in one's life. It can often lead people into a dark depression or even to consider suicide. Fortunately, resources are available, and trained professionals can assist should one decide to “blow the whistle.” My next guest is one of them. Ms. Garrick founded Whistleblowers of America (WoA) as a nonprofit in 2017, providing voluntary peer support to those suffering workplace trauma. She developed the Whistleblower Retaliation Checklist© (WRC) to identify negative psychosocial impacts on victimized employees and provide forensic testimony. Over the last few years, Professor Garrick has taught for the University of Southern California School of Social Work and has supervised interns from the University of West Florida. She is also the founder of the Workplace Promise Institute, which opened in Pensacola, FL, in 2021, the annual conference WoA hosts.Previously, she served as a US Army Officer and in executive positions at the American Legion and the Departments of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Defense (DoD) and with the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. Her areas of expertise include policy and program development for disabled veterans/wounded warriors, whistleblower mental health, suicide prevention, and organizational leadership development. She is a recognized public servant who has received awards from several distinguished organizations. She founded the FAR Group, which provides consultation to public and private organizations that need development, advocacy, and educational support.Ms. Garrick is a published author, media source, and international public speaker. Juma tells Duprey the explosive suicide vest he is wearing is full of flowers that will make people better. Duprey assumes the child's statements betray a battle-scarred psyche. What he doesn't know is that Juma is no mere child and has existed through millenia  and multiple wars in Afghanistan. Duprey and Juma Gul set off on a journey to make the world a better place. The soldier's objective is to kill QARI NASRUDDIN MEHSUD, the Taliban insurgent who gave Juma Gul the suicide vest, and who trains and equips other Afghan children. Juma Gul simply wants to give the world his flowers. Shadowed by a Predator drone whose bloodthirsty pilot, DADDY RABBIT, sits in air-conditioned comfort on the other side of the planet, the soldier and the child are witnesses, victims of, and unwitting accomplices to the violence and hypocrisy of warfare in Afghanistan's present as well as its past. Every woman deserves performance. We have observed that there is A LOT of B.S. information out there for women coming from the fitness and health industries, which gets even worse as we age. Because of this, we saw the need to bring trusted information to women so we can feel and perform our best.  The launch of the https://www.womensperformance.com/ (Women's Performance Podcast) features host, Sara Gross, with three change-makers, movers, and shakers in the women's performance space - https://www.drstacysims.com/ (Dr. Stacy Sims), https://livefeisty.com/category/podcasts/hit-play-not-pause/ (Selene Yeager), and https://www.feistytriathlon.com/ (Jamila Gale-Agans). They discuss multiple topics around performance and dive deep in order to provide solid information and access to resources for active women, coaches, parents, race directors, and companies. Stacy Sims provides perspective on the biggest changes in her field of research, and what new directions she is seeing that will help women. Selene discusses changes she has seen in the fitness industry and media, and how she vets information when working on an article or looking for a guest on the https://livefeisty.com/category/podcasts/hit-play-not-pause/ ("Hit Play Not Pause") podcast Jamila paints a picture of her time as a US Army Officer and the cultural assumptions she had to navigate in this "culture within a culture." They also provided valuable roundtable insight on questions from both Sara and the live audience, including: What does it mean for you to focus on performance in your life? And, how has it changed through the years? What does it mean to continue to focus on performance as we age? How do history and culture affect our work, research, and performance? Why is it important to look at performance through a variety of lenses? What's the best advice you've received as a performance-minded individual? How do you make strength training fun? How do I know if I need a rest day, or if I'm just being lazy? (spoiler alert: you're NOT lazy) Do you train according to your cycles? What is your advice on recovery? This is our time to learn, grow, and thrive. It's not about standing on a podium (although some of us will); it's about being able to do the things we love throughout our life. George Randle is a former US Army Officer, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of The Talent War Group and Co-Author of “The Talent War”. With a 20 year career in talent acquisition George has hired over 80,000 people. He and his co-author (Ex-Navy Seal, Mike Saraille) say that many organizations are losing the war for talent, and because of that, they are not only losing their best people, but also competitive advantage, market share, and are in danger of going out of business. But they also say there is a solution, but only for those who are smart enough — to listen. In this interview George offers career-altering advice as employees (and employers) everywhere navigate “The Great Resignation”. In this interview we get into the following topics: [00:00:00] Employees are leaving their jobs in hordes. Why? [00:03:09] Employees are highly disengaged, is it the leader’s fault? [00:05:57] Are these major job market shifts positive? [00:07:10] How are companies responding to the Great Resignation? [00:09:35] How Leadership is responding to the Great Resignation [00:11:37] How effective is Zoom-communication REALLY? [00:14:01] Resumes – what would immediately disqualify a candidate? [00:16:38] How do the elite prepare for an interview? [00:21:42] Universal interview questions everyone should be able to answer [00:24:25] GOLD – George’s last thoughts on the Great Resignation MUST SEE! Putin just invaded Ukraine. It's confounding, frightening, a dick move and utter bullshit.   The Buzzards want to get to the bottom of this. We need help because the media out there has so many conflicting messages it's difficult to figure out just what in the holy fuck is going on.   When in doubt, we reach out to our most trusted sources. In this case, we have someone that is directly involved with the conflict and has the most precise and stone cold take on it.  All of us are on this episode but we let one source lay it all out.   We just listen. And so should you.   Adrian Bonenberger returns for his second appearance on FDB.  He is an expert on the dynamics of the armed conflict levied on Ukraine by Vladimir Putin. He is a retired US Army Officer that has served in a variety of capacities and has led soldiers in combat on two deployments.   Additionally, he has served as Field Coordinator for the Ukraine Center for Civilians in Conflict as well as a news editor at The Ukraine Business Journal.   This is the definitive discussion on this subject matter.    He also mentions others we should listen to including Nolan Peterson (@nolanwpeterson), Vladislov Davidson (The Odessa Review), Christopher Miller (@ChristopherJM), Jack Crosby (Rolling Stone),  Matt Taibbi (@matttaibbi), Gary Brecher & Mark Ames (War Nerd) and Svetlana Alexievich (@SAlexievich).   So, sit up, drink a cup of joe and pay attention. And, how has it changed through the years? What does it mean to continue to focus on performance as we age? How do history and culture affect our work, research, and performance? In this episode of the ChinaPower Podcast, Dr. David Finkelstein joins us to discuss the PLA's new joint doctrine and how it will impact China's military modernization. Dr. Finkelstein describes his research process behind his new report and predicts the major new components of the doctrine. He argues that the concept of an integrated joint force represents a major doctrinal development within the PLA and is a response to a paradigm shift in how warfighting is conducted in an information-centric era. In addition, Dr. Finkelstein emphasizes how the joint doctrine will enhance the PLA's abilities to engage in all types of military operations, including high-end conventional operations. Lastly, Dr. Finkelstein analyzes the possible internal and external challenges the PLA will face when implementing the new doctrine, and how this timeline aligns with China's military modernization goals for 2027, 2035, and 2049.   Dr. Finkelstein is a vice president of the Center for Naval Analyses (CNA) and director of CNA's China & Indo-Pacific Security Affairs Division. He is a long-time student of Chinese military and security issues, serving as a member of the National Committee on US-China Relations (NCUSCR) and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). A retired US Army Officer, Dr. Finkelstein has spent his career in several tactical assignments, to include in Panmunjom, Korea, and in various China and Asia-related positions at the Pentagon, and has taught Chinese security issues at West Point. He is the author of “The PLA's New Joint Doctrine: The Capstone of the New Era Operations Regulations System.”

Video version https://vimeo.com/452339095 About the podcast In this edition of “State of Readiness”, I welcome Manuel “Manny” Ugarte, Director and Strategic Accounts Manager of the United States Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC).  The US Army’s CCDC mission is to provide the research, engineering, and analytical expertise to deliver capabilities that enable the Army to deter and, when necessary, decisively defeat any adversary now and in the future.  And the CCDC’s vision is to be the scientific and technological foundation of the Army Modernization Enterprise through world-leading research, development, engineering and analysis. Manny and I start by talking about his current role at the CCDC and the confluence of research, data, data analytics, and converting that research and data into a basis for making decisions about the future operations and capabilities of the US Army.  Of particular interest is that the nature of what the CCDC and he are doing goes contraire to a lot of his past experience and training.  After all, research begets innovation, and innovation requires the ability to think and act outside the box – to question everything even down to the core of how the US Army operates. But the real great story is about Manny’s life journey; Manny was born in Puerto Rico, the son of Cuban exiles escaping from the Castro regime.  After escaping Cuba, his father earned his BSc in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Mayaquez afterwards “earning his salt” and providing for his family.  From this experience his father instilled in Manny his life’s values and the notion of serving their adopted country as a way of giving back.  There was no tradition of military service in the family (except for his great grandfather serving in the Spanish Navy way back when).  After University, he found himself assigned in Panama.  And this is where the story really gets interesting; it includes all the elements of a great story.  There is a warehouse full of surplus vending machines and Manny decides to moonlight as an entrepreneur while serving as an officer in the Army (or is it the other way around?).  There is his finding the love of his life (with whom he took forever to actually court) and who happens to be a lawyer who helps him with his business dealings (which is the excuse he found for keeping her close).  And there is the vicious competition of the old ladies selling empanada’s and coke on the corner – culture kills strategy. This is a really great story.  In a very real way, it is the story of America, the American Dream, and everything that is great, and can be great, about the American experience.  Give a listen.  I am sure you will find it as funny, enjoyable, and inspirational as I did.  And I am certain you will end-up with a smile on your face and a bounce in your step. Guest: Manuel "Manny" Ugarte Manuel "Manny" Ugarte Manuel “Manny” Ugarte is the Director & Strategic Accounts Manager to oversee the Science and Technology strategic planning, program, budget & execution of experimental and state-of-the-art capabilities of the US Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command – the subordinate organization of the nascent Army’s Futures Command.  His leadership and military experiences have focused on strategic planning, process improvement, operations, and complex problem solving. As an executive leader, he embraces operational excellence methods, directing high performance teams on problem-solving techniques informed by business intelligence. Manny has served the United States in its operations around the world as a US Army Officer and Executive for over 25 years.  Throughout his career, Manny has held many positions, including stints as Director of Analytics at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Chief Operating Officer at the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and Senior Operations Research Analyst at the Army Futures Command.  He earned his BASc of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering as an ROTC Cadet from Norwich University, his MBA from Tarleton State University, his MSc in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School, and his MEng in Engineering and Industrial Management from Penn State University.  He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt practitioner and Master Black Belt candidate from the US Army.  Manuel recently completed an Executive Program certification in Management and Leadership from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In our debut episode of Tell Us The Truth, let's reflect on the fact police murder victims such as Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks and George Floyd are not just people who you've watched get murdered and read about in the newspaper, they are real people who have a lasting impact on all of us. We explore their impact through two perspectives.First, we have retired United States Army officer Keith Atkins who reflects on the life and tragic death of his cousin, Atlanta PD murder victim Rayshard Brooks. How has this tragedy affected the loved ones of Rayshard Brooks and what role can police reform play in ensuring murders like this do not happen again? Then, we hear from Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu who details how the tragic murder of George Floyd has impacted how she addresses systemic racism, not only as an elected official, but also as a mother. We end with a call to action for everyone listening to take what's been discussed and share it within your personal social circles. What are solutions that we can collectively put together? Can we get closer to the equality America stands for and, if so, what's it going to take?

The military lifestyle can be hard. Uncertainty and risk are ever-present, and that stress can affect family members just as much as the active duty soldier... Perhaps even more. US Army Officer and dad of one daughter, Kevin White, shares openly about his family's experience navigating a challenging, rewarding, and often nomadic military lifestyle. Plus, Marc shares about a recent trip to the ER. And, in a new segment called "Confessions," Adam reveals a deep dark secret that might just make his kids lose their very minds.Marc begins another remote recording session by recounting a recent (and rather traumatic) trip to the emergency room with one of his toddler twins. (Spoiler alert: everyone's okay!)The guys discuss the phrase (and the act of) "social distancing," and decide that while it's easy to form an opinion based on one's personal situation, there are many variables which impact peoples' social distancing experience. Many don't have the luxury of collecting income from the safety of their home while spending more time than they're used to with their immediate families-- in fact, many people risk their own lives each day serving others. And in the case of our guest, US Army Officer Kevin White, sometimes you are required to put yourself at risk and physically distance from your family for weeks or months at a time.Kevin candidly discusses his experience in the military including the challenges of being deployed with a wife and young daughter at home, and the unique opportunities that military life presents to his family. Our conversation also touches on:•  The various types of deployments and missions•  Making fast friends in new places•  How to explain to a toddler that their dad will be away for an unknown length of time•  How to communicate to your child the inherent danger in your line of work•  Reintegrating back into civilian life as a fatherAdam and Marc round out the episode by revealing their deep, dark dad secrets in a new segment aptly titled Confessions. EPISODE TRANSCRIPTLINKS:The Military Father: A Hands On Guide For Deployed Dads (book)2017 Webinar on Resources for Military DadsCaspar BabypantsSpencer AlbeeRed Vault Audio

The essential nature of a man focusing on his mission and purpose in life and how a lack thereof can lead to a man feeling lost, hopeless, adrift and an inability to be successful in his personal intimate relationships. In this video coaching newsletter, I discuss two different emails from two different viewers. The first email is from a Military Veteran of three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, who says that he suffers from severe PTSD and several physical injuries. About ten months ago he found out that his wife of twenty years was having emotional affairs with several men outside of their marriage. Two weeks ago he asked her to leave. He says he feels lost, hopeless, fat, ugly and like he's a total loser. He says he has been begging and chasing for his wife to come back which is only driving her away more. He asks my opinion on what he should focus on to turn his life around. The second email is a simple thank you note from a retired US Army Officer who still works for the DOD (Department of Defense). I discuss the importance of a man having a compelling mission and purpose in life outside of his personal relationships as an essential component of a man being able to have good quality relationships with those he loves, values and respects.
