That was a mere 0.007 mph faster than VeeKay, who still gave Ed Carpenter Racing a front-row starting spot for the ninth time in the last 11 years. Palou surpassed the record pole run of 234.046 mph that Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon put up last year. It also was the second-fastest qualifying effort, trailing only Arie Luyendyk’s 236.986, which he set the day after pole qualifying in 1996. What's that about NASCAR? And while we have him, we talk F1 and how dominant teams and drivers have dominated F1 history. According to Gakker, it's not ridiculous that Red Bull can win every race this season. But he isn't ruling out wins by Aston Martin, Ferrari and maybe even Mercedes. Then Tim joins from his fun in the sun vacation in Central time zone to talk Texas Motor Speedway. We discuss the slow decline of this once great oval race. One where AJ Foyt smacked a victorious Arie Luyendyk on the way to victory lane. Also, why haven't any of the Fortune 100 companies in and around Dallas stepped up. Further we give our picks for Pole, Win and Honorable mention. Finally, we play a game of Big Deal! or Big Deal...

No podemos usar otra expresión. They are on the track at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the “Month of May” for the 105th Indianapolis 500 is underway. The action kicked off last Saturday with 20-year-old Rinus VeeKay of The Netherlands winning the GMR Grand Prix on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. VeeKay started seventh, was able to track down Romain Grosjean of France and use some brilliant strategy and a fast pit stop toward the end of the race to claim his first career IndyCar victory. VeeKay became the sixth-youngest driver to win in IndyCar history. The Dutch driver also gave Ed Carpenter Racing its first-ever victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was also a fitting “Welcome Home” for ECR team partner Tony George, whose family used to own the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before selling it to Roger Penske on November 4, 2019. VeeKay's win continues a trend that began with Alex Palou getting his first career win the season-opening Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on April 18. Pato O'Ward got his first-career IndyCar win in the XPEL 375 at Texas Motor Speedway on May 2. Now, the focus turns to the 105th Indianapolis 500 as practice for the world's greatest race began on Tuesday, May 18 and runs through “Fast Friday.” It's Armed Forces Qualifying Day on Saturday, May 22 followed by the final day of qualifications on Sunday, May 22 featuring Last Chance Qualifying for the final Row 11 from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 pm Eastern Time. The run for the pole and the starting order for the first three rows will be determined in Fast Nine Qualifying from 3:00 to 3:45 p.m. Eastern Time. A final two-hour practice for the field of 33 will follow from 5-7 p.m. Pit Pass Indy will keep you up to speed on this year's Indianapolis 500 with another action-filled lineup that includes guests Rinus VeeKay, Scott Dixon, Jimmie Johnson, Arie Luyendyk, Ed Carpenter and Dale Coyne.

Two-time Indy 500 winner and IndyCar race steward Arie Luyendyk returns to The Week In IndyCar show to share insights on life inside race control, handling driver conflicts, and his illustrious history as a driver spanning open-wheel and sports cars, all powered by questions submitted by fans via social media. A sampling of the items posed this week: "Arie, Colton Herta had some really not so nice things to say about you on the radio after Rinus Veekay passed him at WWT Raceway, how do you react to the insinuated conflict of interest? Do you contact Colton directly and talk or is there an intermediary? In race control do you automatically recuse yourself of incident review when it comes to Veekay? "Setting the 4-lap record at Indy: Did you know that speed was in the car that day? What were the indicators - practice speed, engine tune, aero, setup? What was the driving experience like? Was it balanced & you felt ahead of it, or at any point was it at the absolute handling limit?" "Arie, any good stories of diving with Rick Mears in his prime? What can you tell us about the Menard-powered beast you drove in 1995?" "Arie, what seems more crazy to you now with the benefit of hindsight: Lapping IMS at 230+ mph in an open-cockpit open-wheel car, or doing fractionally lower speeds on the pre-chicanes Mulsanne Straight in an enclosed Group C Nissan prototype?" It felt equal parts perfect and corny to put that title on this episode, but when your Bachelor fangirl heart gets to interview a former contestant and franchise favorite, you’re too excited to care! You know Chelsea Roy as the first impression rose recipient and (at times) the villain from Arie Luyendyk’s season of ABC's The Bachelor and her follow-up appearance on Bachelor in Paradise. She’s also a Maine girl (like us) and she proves it with her genuine kindness, warmth, and dry New England humor. With Valentine’s Day just a few nights away, we wanted to hear what it's like dating on national television. Fastlane is coming up and I gotta be honest… We were way more invested in the finale of ABC's The Bachelor than anything going on with the blue brand heading into this Sunday's mediocre and quite unnecessary WWE event from Columbus, OH.
