HOW DO YOU FALL OUT OF LOVE WITH COUNTRY MUSIC?, 13min., USA Directed by Shyamala Moorty She just wants to sing country and western on stage, but it's not easy for a South Asian-American in the deep south where every audience is a hostile one. “How Do You Fall Out of Love with County Music” is a humorous and moving short film about cultural alienation and the possibilities for human connection through music. Set on stage in a honky-tonk bar, Amy Singh courageously bares her soul to the audience and reveals deep truths about racism and belonging in our country today. https://shyamalamoorty.com/how-do-you-fall-out-of-love-with-country-music/ https://www.instagram.com/shydance/ Get to know the filmmaker: As a director, I was matched with a writer and an actor during the pandemic by Theater West for a new play reading. The script by Maximillian Gill was immediately compelling, I could feel the tension just in reading it, and the actor, Vidushi Chadha, claimed the stage so powerfully -even on zoom. The script was in-progress and the three of us had such great chemistry as a team working through the changes and staging together. When we were done, Vidushi suggested the film, and I had just finished directing my first short (a narrative dance called Fight the Fear) and was enthusiastic to try my hand at a monologue! Taki Watanga was conceived on the Paris Metro. A simple conversation that rapidly turned into a dare. “Be brave and take hold of your obvious and quite frankly unique talents”.In 2019 Mark Hedges, the director of London's West End production of Phantom of theOpera, presented a challenge to Chrissy: develop a drag queen persona for cabaret and burlesque shows. She seized the opportunity and immediately began collaborating withhim to create her alter ego: Taki Watanga. To create this unique personality Chrissy would draw on her own fascinating life as a performer, a curious seeker, experienced yoga practitioner and adventures.... Growing up in the aftermath of the civil rights movement, the Atlanta native was immersed in the soulful oratory of the African-American community.Melding that experience with her Scottish and Native American ancestry contributed to her unique cross-cultural perspective. While still a teenager Chrissy earned the opportunity to perform with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in Leonard Bernstein's Mass.Soon after she moved to Nashville, Tennessee where she was a singer and dancer forOpryland U.S.A. During her residency in the Home of County Music', she recorded background vocals for Grammy-winning country artists Reba McEntire, Tammy Wynette. Through her diverse career, Chrissy continues to delight audiences with her unfettered wit, expressive playfulness, and exuberant personality.https://www.instagram.com/taki_watanga/https://www.facebook.com/christiineflowers.actricevoicetalent/http://www.christine-flowers.com/main.php?ca=10&p=12&tt=teaching&lang=enhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/christine-flowers-25073311/?originalSubdomain=frhttps://yogaflowerparis.com/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/join/Laviecreative)

Veterans in particular have been especially hard hit by the rigorous demands of quarantine and the social isolation that goes with it. Beginning in April, Orange County Music and Dance will launch a new program, Operation Gig, to help veterans, their families, and the community, cope with the unprecedented stress and consequences resulting from the current COVID-19 health crisis. Orange County Music and Dance has teamed up with Rock For Vets for the unique musical program, to be held in Orange County's Great Park. ORANGE COUNTY MUSIC AND DANCE LAUNCHES OPERATION GIG, A NEW PROGRAM TO HELP VETERANS COPE WITH COVID-19 STRESS. Calling all vets…get ready to rock… Beginning in April, Orange County Music and Dance, (OCMD) will launch Operation Gig a new program designed to help veterans cope with the unprecedented stress and devastating consequences resulting from the current COVID-19 health crisis. During this challenging time, veterans and their families are experiencing a disproportionate level of stress and risk. Veterans have been especially hard hit by the rigorous demands of quarantine and the social isolation that goes with it. In response, OCMD has created an important new musical program to help veterans, and the community at large, cope, heal and thrive again. The program is totally free to all participants and provides the rare opportunity to join a band, for those who so desire. Spouses, family members, and children 16 years of age or older, are also allowed and encouraged to participate. Operation Gig is a program designed specifically for military veterans and those still on active duty. To enhance the eight-week program, OCMD has teamed up with the well- known non-profit Rock For Vets, founded by Frank Mcllquham. Operation Gig features three different options for participation: Learn, which offers eight 60 minute group classes for beginners (no experience necessary) or those who need a refresher; Jam, which includes weekly 90-minute jam sessions for instrumentalists who want to play, while improving their skills and enjoying the companionship of other like-minded musicians; and Band, for experienced players who want to collaborate with others and perform in front of an audience. The goal is to provide the sense of camaraderie and bring back the ‘esprits de corps' that's been missing for so many during lockdown and quarantine.
Shane figured out how to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" at age three. Too tiny to actually reach the piano keys, he picked out the notes by reaching up and feeling for them with his fingertips. Thus began his lifetime of music. He's created music hand in hand with legends of the recording industry, ranging from Elvis Presley and Paul McCartney to Arif Mardin and Ahmet Ertegun. His diversity as a player, arranger, producer and composer is amazing: pop to classical, jazz to R & B, country to alternative, appearing in one form or another on many thousands of recordings. Born in Huntington WV, Shane began formal classical piano training with Edith Sweeney before reaching his fourth birthday and moved to Portsmouth, Ohio when he was 7. There he continued piano studies in the years to follow with his adored teacher, Dorothy Knost. With her guidance, he began winning the coveted "Guild" piano competition awards year after year. At age twelve, while beginning junior high school, he met the inspirational Ralph Harrison, the McKinley Junior High School Band Director. Ralph asked Shane to join the school's orchestra and the big-band swing band. He also studied and performed choral music with another wonderful teacher and friend, Charles Varney, and with Bob McCoy at Portsmouth High School. Shane also began playing with many local musicians and bands in the Tri-State area. His family moved back to Huntington for his senior year, where he attended Huntington High School and enrolled at Marshall University, where he studied with Mary Shepp Mann. At the end of his freshman year, he left Huntington to "...travel and play music!...". He eventually moved to Dallas TX and soon enrolled in the jazz program at North Texas State University. By age nineteen, he was working in Dallas music production houses and studios, playing piano and organ two to three days a week on everything from film scores and records to radio libraries and jingles. He withdrew from NTSU and, seeking work as a studio musician, moved to Memphis. Within just a few weeks, he was blessed by reuniting with the legendary Jim Stewart of Stax Records and began working as a staff pianist/keyboardist in the Stax Rhythm Section. He also worked as a session pianist at Pepper/Tanner and with producers Al Jackson Jr., Willie Mitchell and Chips Moman. In 1971, Chips asked Shane to join the American Studios Rhythm Section as a staff pianist, where he worked with music icons such as Arif Mardin and many others. Learn more about creating financial and emotional freedom at www.freedomhacknow.com In 1972, Shane was in such demand as a pianist/session keyboardist from his work in Dallas and Memphis that he moved to Nashville. Word of his talent and abilities spread rapidly and he was soon working constantly. In 1974, he was contacted by Paul McCartney and performed on the "Junior's Farm/Sally G" sessions. Subsequently, Shane was called to play on several tracks on Elvis Presley's "Promised Land" album. Presley was so impressed with Shane's keyboard work that he personally requested Shane accompany him as pianist on the forthcoming '76 tour. His studio career continued at lightning speed, as he performed on and arranged hundreds of records for major artists. He also became an early explorer of synthesis and digital recording, purchasing a Mini-Moog in 1971 and purchasing his first digital audio recording system in 1981. In the late 80's, Shane had the great fortune of meeting legendary record mogul Ahmet Ertegun. Ahmet realized Shane's abilities and versatility and recruited him as a staff producer. He worked closely with Ahmet and with many of Atlantic's artists until April 2001, when he started his own independent production company. He returned to Nashville, TN in 2004 and continues to reside there. Shane currently performs live with Lynda Carter and is a member of the Musician's Hall Of Fame. As a producer/arranger, he's been twice nominated for a Grammy and received two Dove awards and one Cleo award. Shane is able to enrich any project he's part of, and he continues to be one of the most sought after talents in the industry. Natalie decided to move to the country music capital of the world to make it her homebase in early 2019. During her first two years there, she was busy traveling all over the country and didn’t initially get into the acting scene. During 2019/2020, she spent most of her time between North Carolina (listen to her Asheville episode) and FL (to see her favorite travel brats). What is Nashville like? Can you describe the environment for us?Natalie said: It’s extremely livable and fun and coined a new slogan for it: Flashy, Trashy, and everything in between. She was concerned that she’d miss the outdoors and hiking because she was moving to a city, but there are so many beautiful areas around Nashville to explore and be outdoors. The lakes, parks, and hiking areas are very noteworthy. She also made mention of the tornadoes and power outages at the beginning of 2020, and how COVID has impacted the tourism industry. Who should you go there with?Well, Nashville is the Bachelorette capital of the US! So definitely come when you plan that. Ha! In all honesty, Nashville is a great city for all kinds of tourists. If you love music, not just country music, although obviously it is the heart of country music and downtown (Broadway specifically) is full of all of the country singing bars, etc. Lots of buskers and lights. I would say it leans toward a girls trip or a fun trip with a spouse or partner. What part do you like the most? There are a few parks/hiking areas/lakes that I love to spend a saturday morning going to. Radnor Lake being one. Percy Warner Park is gorgeous. And I just discovered a new hiking area that is great - Long Hunter State Park. But I also love a place called Pinewood Social. It’s just a really cool restaurant/lounge. With an old school bowling alley. It’s a place I always take friends/family when they come to visit. What to do there? Maykel Elizade’s SOUTH COUNTY makes the case for becoming the definitive collection of son cubano. Building on a Cuban tres foundation, this recording takes listeners on a sonic tour of the island nation. Cultural standards “Corazon Rebelde” and “Gracias a La Vida” are interwoven with Elizarde’s own compositions including the “Condado Sur.” The album opens with a spoken intro asking listeners to compare the music to an ajiaco –a traditional Cuban stew—in which many ingredients blend together to create a common taste, and with South County, a common vision. County music artist/musician/producer, Chad Jeffers epitomizes Steve Martin’s famous saying, “be so good they can’t ignore you”. His self proclaimed “major in a minor instrument” (aka: slide guitar), natural talent and heart for others has propelled his country music career since the age of 8 after being chased by thousands of teenage girls. After a Billboard top 25 hit with his own band, Chad began backing up some of music’s biggest names like Keith Urban, Kenny Loggins, Jamie O’Neal and many others. And in 2007, he started touring with country superstar, Carrie Underwood. In his travels, he’s played Live 8, appeared on nearly every major awards show from the Grammys to the American Music Awards to the CMA’s, and performed in front of hundreds of thousands of people around the world from Afghanistan to Japan. In Fall 2019 he released, BackStage Notes, which is an intro course into the careers of Music, released by his publishing company. All along, he’s been giving talks and lectures on many different stages.“Music has the power to change the world. I feel that my role is to entertain, inspire and educate others on exactly how they can express themselves through music. Being on stage with world-renowned artists as a musician is my passion, but being on stage as a speaker to inspire others, is my purpose.”Links:Chad Jeffers on LinkedInChad’s Checklist: 6 Steps to Be Performance ReadyBackstage Notes (course & coaching)***So, let's draw deeper faith, inspiration and encouragement in our Begin Again moments. Country by definition, but fueled by rock and roll and infected with a watermelon-sized helping of hope, love and salvation, Marshall’s the kind of guy you want to have on yourside when the going gets tough in this world and his new album, One Of These Days is set to be your alibi.
