The Orlando Pride dominated statistically but got just enough offense to win on a Marta wonderstrike from outside the box in a 1-0 road win on Sunday against the Chicago Red Stars. Although the Pride kept Mallory Swanson quiet, Orlando needed a bit more sharpness in front of goal to open the game up. It never happened, but Marta's NWSL Goal of the Week helped Orlando secure three more points on the road. We broke down the game, checked back at our score predictions from last week, and made our selections for Player of the Match. Our mailbagbox this week had concerns about whether Orlando should stay undefeated in the regular season, whether stoppage time is an issue, whether the soccer gods have an axe to grind with Barbra Banda, and whether Evelina Duljan should play more minutes with Banda. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show. After the mailbagbox, we discussed Amanda Allen's loan to Lexington, McKinley Crone's new contract through 2026, and Banda's recent scoring drought. Finally, we look ahead to Orlando's home match Friday against the Kansas City Current. The visitors will be looking for revenge from the first meeting and their perceived slights when Pride players were happy about the result in that match. We also provided our key matchups and score predictions for the game. Here's how Episode 60 went down: 0:15 – The Pride kept rolling with another clean sheet and a win at Chicago. 12:59 – Our mailbagbox is chock full, as is our Orlando Pride news segment. 39:50 – Our preview of the rematch against the Kansas City Current, who totally won't celebrate like crazy if they win after playing more than half the match a player down on the road. Honest.

This snack-size episode talks Olympics – baseball next time, baseball-adjacent for now. Salvy has Bobby Junior's back, and really, everyone else's too. Manny sure looks good getting his 1000th RBI in Camden Yards, but for the other guys. The Police Blotter provides a teaching moment about what game balls to throw back – not THAT one. Trades are coming at us fast and furious as we approach the deadline, and there's excitement at the Women's World Cup. Dylan and Joe give us a fun fact.We say, “Because it's frickin' France,” “if all of the ducks go in their appropriate rows,” and “Elly De La Cruz level of showing off.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. Morning Footy: A daily soccer podcast from CBS Sports Golazo Network
The Morning Footy crew breakdown the US Women's defeat of Germany in their second group stage match by the score of 4-1. Sophia Smith scores yet another brace while Mallory Swanson and Lynn Williams net one each. The victory did come at a cost as defender Tierna Davidson left the match early after suffering an apparent knee injury. The front line for the US Women, Smith, Swanson, and Trinity Rodman have combined for all the goals so far that have been scored in the tournament. They are being referred to now at the TRIDENT. Morning Footy is available for free on the Audacy app as well as Apple Podcasts, Spotify and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Bang! The USWNT rained goals on Germany in a 4-1 victory, their biggest result against a FIFA top-10 side in six years. A Sophia Smith brace, a Mallory Swanson tap-in, and a Lynn Williams dagger made Germany look far worse than their world ranking would indicate. But was it all bread and circuses for Emma Hayes's side? Eric and Evan examine the tactical imbalance that allowed the Germans to find seams on the counter--and the ways the US exploited their opponent's resulting gaps in the other direction. This week, Claire talks through the USWNT's first friendly under new manager Emma Hayes, with a dominant 4-0 win over South Korea. She talks through big performances from Mallory Swanson and Tierna Davidson, a midfield that looks refreshed, and her own personal picks for the Olympic roster. Then, she digs into the big stories out of the WNBA this weekend, as the Indiana Fever finally end their early gauntlet of games, the Sun go 8-0, and the conversation off the court about fouls heats up.
Moments after Sister Emma picked up her first dub in her first official game, Courtney & André hopped on the mics. We talk about the starting XI, Mallory Swanson being great, base formations versus in- and out-of-possession formations, why the two styles of goals were notable, plus our wants for the second matchup with South Korea.
